Book The Kokanee Obsession

Download or read book The Kokanee Obsession written by D. F. Cannon and published by . This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kokanee fishing is an obsession and as you can see by the name of the book, I am addicted. One of the most frustrating things for a Kokaholic to hear is that the fish are just not biting. Many times I have been at the ramp launching my boat when some forlorn fisherman will tell me that the bite is off. "Should have been here last week, it was real hot." is another statement that I hear fairly often. I am a cup is half full kind of guy, not a half empty sort of person! I always tell my wife after such an encounter, "I just don't think those guys know how to fish for Kokanee." It has always been a frustration for me to hear those words because there is so little information out there specifically targeting kokanee. To date, my only effective method of teaching Kokanee techniques has been to take a non believer out fishing. My hope is that through this book, I can in effect take you fishing without leaving the dock. Kokanee can be a very frustrating fish to pursue, and without a little coaching, there is a long learning curve to get to the point you are regularly catching fish. My goal with this book is to help shorten the learning curve and in a sense give you a running start. By understanding the seasons and the methods that work within those seasons, you can put more and larger fish in the box day in and day out. Tight Lines and Good Fishing! ~Kent Cannon~

Book Fishing Mount Hood Country

Book excerpt: It is at once the most recognizable icon in Oregon and yet it is little known by the multitudes that live in the shadow of Mt. Hood. For the first time, this book opens up the fishing opportunity available on the slopes of Wy'East and in the rivers that flow out of its glaciers and gather water from its springs. In Fishing Mount Hood Country, authors Gary Lewis and Robert H. Campbell are joined by Dave Kilhefner, Terry Otto and Blake Miller as they tell tales of water, trout, steelhead and salmon and provide a detailed, thoughtful look at the best fly- and gear fishing in Mount Hood country. The book is divided into two sections - Western and Eastern - by the Pacific Crest Trail. Some of the best fishing in the state is found in these rivers and some of the most remote angling for wild trout is found here as well. Hike the trails that lead to rainbows and cutthroat in high country lakes and drift the whitewater for steelhead and salmon. Now you are Fishing Mount Hood Country.

Book excerpt: If there is a frontier beyond organic, local, and seasonal, beyond farmers' markets and sustainably raised meat, it surely includes hunting, fishing, and foraging your own food. A lifelong angler and forager who became a hunter late in life, Hank Shaw has chronicled his passion for hunting and gathering in his widely read blog, Hunter Angler Gardener Cook, which has developed an avid following among outdoor people and foodies alike. Hank is dedicated to finding a place on the table for the myriad overlooked and underutilized wild foods that are there for the taking—if you know how to get them. In Hunt, Gather, Cook, he shares his experiences both in the field and the kitchen, as well as his extensive knowledge of North America's edible flora and fauna. With the fresh, clever prose that brings so many readers to his blog, Hank provides a user-friendly, food-oriented introduction to tracking down everything from sassafras to striped bass to snowshoe hares. He then provides innovative ways to prepare wild foods that go far beyond typical campfire cuisine: homemade root beer, cured wild boar loin, boneless tempura shad, Sardinian hare stew—even pasta made with handmade acorn flour. Book Pacific Salmon Life Histories

Download or read book Pacific Salmon Life Histories written by Cornelis Groot and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 1991 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pacific salmon are an important biological and economic resource of countries of the North Pacific rim. They are also a unique group of fish possessing unusually complex life histories. There are seven species of Pacific salmon, five occurring on both the North American and Asian continents (sockeye, pink, chum, chinook, and coho) and two (masu and amago) only in Asia. The life cycle of the Pacific salmon begins in the autumn when the adult female deposits eggs that are fertilized in gravel beds in rivers or lakes. The young emerge from the gravel the following spring and will either migrate immediately to salt water or spend one or more years in a river or lake before migrating. Migrations in the ocean are extensive during the feeding and growing phase, covering thousands of kilometres. After one or more years the maturing adults find their way back to their home river, returning to their ancestral breeding grounds to spawn. They die after spawning and the eggs in the gravel signify a new cycle. Upon this theme Pacific salmon have developed many variations, both between as well as within species. Pacific Salmon Life Histories provides detailed descriptions of the different life phases through which each of the seven species passes. Each chapter is written by a scientist who has spent years studying and observing a particular species of salmon. Some of the topics covered are geographic distribution, transplants, freshwater life, ocean life, development, growth, feeding, diet, migration, and spawning behaviour. The text is richly supplemented by numerous maps, illustrations, colour plates, and tables and there is a detailed general index, as well as a useful geographical index.

The camera lens captures bizarre and fluid shapes that form faster than the eye can see or the mind can comprehend. More than 180 images show Tahoe's breathtaking submarine scenery, from its teal shallows, rounded boulders, and swirling compositions to the surreal still lifes in its clear, quiet depths.
