Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Japan’s Ryukyu archipelago was the birthplace of two methods of self-defense now practiced worldwide: Okinawan Karate and Ryukyu Kobujutsu, known as Okinawan Kobudo. Kobudo is the study of weapons adapted from the tools of farming and fishing. Okinawan Kobudo reveals, for the first time through print and photographs, the rich history and techniques of this most prestigious martial art known worldwide as Matayoshi. Andrea Guarelli traces the history of Matayoshi Kobudo, explores the background of each weapon, and demonstrates the form and technique of practice through rare photos, many of which the author took while a student of Shinpo Matayoshi Sensei (1921–1997). Book Japanese Jiu jitsu

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With extensive, step-by-step photographs and instructions, this jiu-jitsu guide is an effective tool for mastering this ancient martial art. The original Japanese martial art developed by the elite samurai class during Japan's feudal era, Jiu-jitsu is the forerunner of Judo and the precursor of today's ultimate fighting styles, such as mixed martial arts (MMA). For centuries, this method of unarmed self-defense proved so successful in combat that it was kept secret and taught only to a select few. Based on the author's study with instructors at the Tokyo police academy, this martial arts book presents all the traditional techniques of Jujitsu, also known as Jiu-jitsu. These techniques teach you valuable restraining methods that force your opponent to submit without abuse by using pressure points. It shows you tips for search and seizure, and the almost extinct art of Hojojutsu--how to tie people up without using any knots. Japanese Jiu-jitsu: Secret Techniques of Self-Defense addresses and demonstrates the full range of Kaisho Goshin Budo Taiho Jitsu Ryu (Tokyo police self-defense). Learn specific techniques such as: The use of hands Throwing an opponent Attacking vital points with strikes and kicks The use of weapons (like the staff). This fascinating Jiujitsu book, designed as a training manual, also serves as a remarkable illustrated guide to the secret art of Japanese samurai self-defense.

Download or read book Taiho Jutsu written by Don Cunningham and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2012-02-14 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Taiho-Jutsu: Law and Order in the Age of the Samurai, author and judo second-dan Don Cunningham provides a fascinating introduction to the civil society of Edo-period (1603-1867) Japan--particularly the role played by the well-known warrior class, the samurai. Cunningham shows that the samurai were not, as commonly portrayed, always all-powerful mediators ruling the chonin through the power of their swords. During this period the samurai became a part of the complex system of Japanese law enforcement. Made up of samurai as well as machi-bugyo-sho (town magistrates), yoriki ("assistant" samurai), doshin (samurai patrol officers), komono (assistants), goyokiki (part-time police assistants) and okappiki (informants and spies)--this intricate structure mirrored the Japanese society of the day. Taiho-Jutsu offers a detailed look at the weapons these law enforcement officers used--including the jutte (iron truncheon), tesson (iron fan), yori-bo (wooden staff), sodegarami (sleeve entangler), sasumata (spear fork), and torinawa (arresting ropes)--as well as a fascinating illustrated look at the techniques used to apprehend criminals. From kamae (stances) to parrying and striking and throwing techniques, these explanations demonstrate the practical techniques in Edo-period Japan.

Book The Best of Okinawan Martial Arts Weapons Series Book One

Download or read book The Best of Okinawan Martial Arts Weapons Series Book One written by Shihan Nishiuchi and published by . This book was released on 2015-01-18 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thank you for your interest in Okinawan kobudo. As you may already know, Okinawan kobudo comes mostly from farmer and fishermen tools such as the hoe, sickles, bo staff and the handle from stone grain mills (tonfa) and the nunchaku from the skin of the hemp plant to make clothes or from a hand thrasher to separate soybeans from their shell. Every country, including your country, has or had very similar farming and fishermen tools. The shape may be different but you can perhaps use your own country's tools for practice. You don't necessarily need to have farming tools from Okinawa, and you can still practice kobudo. That is the most strong point of kobudo. Now, don't make too hard of a schedule to learn, you must enjoy practicing. If you study and practice well with the weapons, then your movement will be very natural and your body will become one with the tools (weapons) and the movement. I hope you have enjoyed this book. As long as you don't hit yourself with your own weapons, you can have a lot of fun!
