Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When George I, Elector of Hanover, was crowned King of England in 1714, he established a dynastic union between the two countries that endured until 1837, leaving many cultural and political accomplishments to posterity. The 300th anniversary of this union led the Institute of Landscape Architecture, Technische Universität Dresden, and the Centre of Garden and Landscape Architecture (CGL), Leibniz Universität Hannover, to take a critical look at the gardens that resulted. The symposium “Hanover and England: a union of state and garden / German and British garden culture between 1714 and today” was sponsored by the Lower Saxonian Ministry of Science and Culture. The resulting papers dealt with far more than garden history, addressing as well the background and channels by which ideas on art, agriculture, commerce, technology, literature and politics were exchanged. Given the encyclopedic interests of late 18th century thinkers, it was necessary to invite several academic disciplines to participate, in order to describe and discuss the cultural transfer between Great Britain and Hanover. The transfer of horticultural and artistic ideas very often flourished in the 19th century at different places. For this reason, the conference focused on two key aspects: the Hanoverian-British exchange between 1714 and 1837 (the period of the actual royal union) and the Anglo-German relations that endure to the present day. Das Symposium „Hanover and England: a union of state and garden / German and British garden culture between 1714 and today“ wurde vom Niedersächsischen Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur gefördert.

This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Martha Washington to Laura Bush, the wife of each U.S. president has found her place in history, often setting trends and doing important work for the nation. This reference work traces the lineage of all presidents' wives, arranged alphabetically from Abigail Adams to Jane Wyman. Genealogy reveals that some of the women are connected to one another through common ancestry, sometimes even through royal blood--for example, the bloodlines of Laura Bush and Abigail Adams join at King Henry II and can then be traced to King Pepin the Short, born in 714. Several others can be traced back to King John, William the Conqueror, Charlemagne, and Lady Godiva. Clearly organized and easy to use, the work includes not only ancestors but offspring, listing children and grandchildren for each woman. Dates of birth, death, and marriage of ancestors, children and grandchildren are included where known.

This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive and entertaining, this volume comprises the greatest works in animal illustration from the Middle Ages through the twentieth century. The chronological presentation of hundreds of black-and-white and color images begins with a medieval illuminated manuscript by the Limbourg brothers and the Renaissance works of Albrecht Dürer and other artists from the first centuries of printing. Subsequent illustrations include the seventeenth-century real and imaginary animals of Matthäus Merian and the unique eighteenth-century compilations of Albertus Seba. Nineteenth-century images are drawn from sources as diverse as J. G. Heck's Bilder Atlas; the prints of Georges Baron Cuvier; William Jardine's 40-volume Naturalist's Library; bird illustrations by John James Audubon, Alexander Wilson, Edward Lear, and many others; extraordinary butterfly and insect images by E. A. Seguy, as well as animal illustrations from Victorian chromolithograph die cuts. The exquisite Edwardian bestiary of the Detmold brothers brings the collection into the twentieth century, and ends with the imagery of contemporary dinosaur artist James Gurney. Detailed bibliographical information concerning every source—including biographical details of each artist—makes this collection a vital reference tool as well as a splendid resource of outstanding animal illustrations. Students of graphic art and illustration, as well as graphic designers and advertising professionals, will prize this treasury of material from many rare historic sources.
Download or read book Crime Gender and Social Order in Early Modern England written by Garthine Walker and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-06-12 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An extended study of gender and crime in early modern England. It considers the ways in which criminal behaviour and perceptions of criminality were informed by ideas about gender and order, and explores their practical consequences for the men and women who were brought before the criminal courts. Dr Walker's innovative approach demonstrates that, contrary to received opinion, the law was often structured so as to make the treatment of women and men before the courts incommensurable. For the first time, early modern criminality is explored in terms of masculinity as well as femininity. Illuminating the interactions between gender and other categories such as class and civil war have implications not merely for the historiography of crime but for the social history of early modern England as a whole. This study therefore goes beyond conventional studies, and challenges hitherto accepted views of social interaction in the period.

Download or read book Sales First Growing Our Company the Old Fashioned Way the ColorMatrix Story written by Becca Braun and published by Braun Ink. This book was released on 2020-09-30 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Sales First!: Growing Our Company the Old-Fashioned Way, the ColorMatrix Story" by John Haugh and Michael Shaughnessy reveals the remarkable journey of two Midwestern chemical salesmen who built a $400 million business without venture capital. In the 1980s, Haugh and Shaughnessy discovered a novel way to add color to plastics, an incremental innovation with enormous potential in the global plastics industry. Lacking the connections and experience to secure venture capital, they turned to a straightforward, old-fashioned strategy: focusing on sales. Driving their beat-up cars around the Ohio River Valley, they committed to a single guiding principle for every decision about customers, capital, or human resources: “Will it generate sales quickly?” This relentless sales-first mindset allowed them to grow their company, ColorMatrix, to over $100 million in revenues. Their dedication paid off when they eventually recapitalized the company and sold it for over $400 million, creating hundreds of jobs in Rust Belt Cleveland along the way. "Sales First!" not only chronicles the business strategies and entrepreneurial spirit that propelled ColorMatrix to success but also highlights the importance of maintaining strong personal relationships in business. John and Mike managed their partnership so well that they never had a significant disagreement, showcasing the power of mutual respect and shared vision. This inspiring narrative offers valuable lessons for entrepreneurs and business leaders on achieving growth through sheer determination and a focus on immediate sales, making it a must-read for anyone looking to build a successful company without relying on external funding. “Sales First!” is part of the Braun Collection, a suite of business education resources that includes bestsellers such as “Billion or Bust!” by former Rackspace CEO Lanham Napier.
