This book was released on 2003-03-24 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diploma Thesis from the year 2001 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1.0 (A), European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) (FB BWL), language: English, abstract: In the world of today, business is no longer limited by national boundaries. The majority of the world’s large corporations perform a significant portion of their activities outside their home countries. The rapidly emerging global economy creates numerous opportunities for businesses to expand their revenues, drive down their costs and boost their profits. At the same time, markets have become fierce battlegrounds where firms have to fight aggressively for market share with domestic and foreign competitors. It is commonly accepted that one of the primary sources for competitive advantage of multinational enterprises (MNEs) in this globalized business environment is their ability to transfer superior knowledge at the international level1 and to create a “learning organization”2. To succeed, or at least survive, in the global market-place, organizations need to adapt quickly to the changing environment and must commit themselves to permanent learning. This paper presents a general overview of the process of international knowledge transfer within multinational enterprises. It deals with the problems of organizational knowledge creation and sharing. A particular emphasis is placed on the implications for international human resource management practices in managing the international transfer of employees, since global assignments are recognized hierin as the most important mechanism of transferring tacit knowledge3 across borders. As the sharing of easily codifiable knowledge is relatively easy to manage, the means of transferring it are not focused on in this study. [...] 1 See, for instance, Kogut, B. and Zander, U. Book Knowledge Transfer from Germany to China

Download or read book Knowledge Transfer from Germany to China written by Thomas M. Fasser and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-02-20 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many western companies went East and started subsidiaries also in China to use large costs reduction potentials and to get new market shares at potential 1.3 billion customers. This hype was justified with the resulting success of the companies and the raise of China to the world's biggest economy. Starting new business in China is not only related with success and increasing profit, because before being successful, a functional factory has to be set up. This includes the setup of a suitable and efficient Quality Management System (QMS) and the according Knowledge transfer. This sounds easy, but not all of the enthusiastic firms made it through the built-up phase. This Study researches the theoretical background of Chinese business environment, according to the High Level Structure needs of the ISO 9001, and then compares the culture and also investigates the individual network system. This theoretical analysis is then merged with the quantitative and qualitative results of an expert survey, of German experts of companies with comparable industrial products and QMS. The result is that the cultural differences are big enough to be considered, when making the strategy plan. Especially hierarchical and group social differences make it necessary that the right people have to be prepared to be send to the subsidiary for a certain period. For the Quality topics, the focus should be on the freedom for process adjustments, content of inspection plans, audit strategies, supplier management and failure analysis. Here has to be created and trained a more sensitivity not only to push colleagues or suppliers, but also to develop them. Cost pressure makes it necessary to produce also more complex products in China, why the suppliers also have to be fit for this new challenge. In the end it can be said that the successful startup mainly depends on the right people, placed in higher hierarchical positions, who train the new colleagues on site continuously and with great patience.

Book The Implementation of International Business Knowledge Transfer in China

Download or read book The Implementation of International Business Knowledge Transfer in China written by Derrick Parker and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increase in globalisation of business presents the opportunity for multinational companies (MNCs) to expand into new emerging markets. Research has attributed difficulties in doing so largely to problems and difficulties in the process of knowledge transfer, and has recently pinpointed the essential role of implementing knowledge from other parts of the world, and the learning required to do so. An ethos of knowledge transfer, implementation and learning are needed for international business success.Chinese multinational companies experience numerous challenges at internationalising, and are culturally ill-disposed to such an ethos. This study will employ longitudinal ethnographic research to identify if and how they reconcile this conundrum, to advance understanding concerning the link between knowledge and learning and international business development. The knowledge source, the knowledge transfer process, and the knowledge recipient have been categorised as the three principle elements of a knowledge-management system (Wiig, 1995). As knowledge retention and distribution have always been the concern of organisations and their managers, sophisticated techniques and systems have been designed for managing the knowledge source and knowledge transfer (Davenport and Prusak, 1998; Wiig, 1995). One of the main streams of research in international business is concerned with knowledge-management within multinational corporations, especially knowledge transfer between parent firm and subsidiaries. For these firms, and for research on them, cross-border knowledge transfer and implementation have become hot topics. For most multinational companies, transferring knowledge is important for self-improvement and development, both in home and in host markets. Knowledge transfer is a circular process; MNCs gather knowledge from business partners, and then apply it back to doing business with these or other business partners. In this process, knowledge application (which can be called as 'implementation') plays an essential role; it determines the effectiveness of knowledge transfer, without which, MNCs cannot develop and possibly cannot survive in foreign markets. Thus, the implementation of transferred knowledge should be a focus of attention; especially for companies dealing with multinational markets. Many firms in the People's Republic of China have, in recent years, grown so rapidly that they are now beginning to become MNCs. However, their complex culture background, their different political environment and their firms' comparatively undeveloped management skills and technologies bring huge challenges for their internationalisation. These aspects also represent obstacles for foreign companies who are trying to do business with Chinese MNCs.These concerns lead to a comprehensive investigation of the factors, and the management techniques that influence the implementation of international business knowledge transfer within the Chinese-Western context.

Book Knowledge Transfer in Multinational Companies

Download or read book Knowledge Transfer in Multinational Companies written by Lamia Ben Hamida and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multinational Companies (MNCs) increasingly play an important role in transferring knowledge worldwide. For MNCs, the topic of knowledge transfer has been studied in different ways. While economists have mainly studied the effects of knowledge transfer on firms' performance, management scholars have rather shed light on the processes of transferring knowledge as well as more strategic aspects for MNCs. The objective of this book is to create bridges between economic sciences and management sciences, by highlighting the contributions and methodologies related to each of these disciplines.

Book Knowledge Transfer through multinational teams

Download or read book Knowledge Transfer through multinational teams written by Dennis Schiedat and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Leadership and Human Resources - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,7, University of Tubingen, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze different theoretical approaches of research about knowledge and multinational teams to determine, whether multinational teams can be a way of transferring knowledge in a multinational corporation. According to the research that has already been conducted in this field, multinational teams can indeed be one way of transferring knowledge between dispersed multinational units in order to leverage its competitive advantage of sharing knowledge. This is mostly done by means of interaction between different team members who share knowledge in continuously communicating and working together, therefore benefiting from explicit and tacit knowledge of team members. Teams can create synergetic effects and not only share knowledge within a team, but also create new knowledge. This dissertation recognizes multinational teams as a suitable way of transferring knowledge. However, due to reasons of language barriers, lack of motivation and costs, a multinational team should not be used as the only means of transferring knowledge through multinational organizations.

Book Knowledge Transfer in Multinational Corporations

Download or read book Knowledge Transfer in Multinational Corporations written by Lars Hakanson and published by Gabler Verlag. This book was released on 2005-04-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: effective knowledge transfer will not come about automatically but requires appropriate and concerted managerial action. This is especially tme in multina tional organizations created though mergers and acquisitions. In such organiza tions, individual subunits are not only subjected to the isomorphic pulls of their respective local environments (Westney 1993) but are often characterized also by different organizational cultures, administrative heritage and work practices. As a long stream of research on mergers and acquisition testifies, achieving syner gies through knowledge sharing in such circumstances is associated with formid able obstac1es. The theoretical basis of much current literature on knowledge and knowledge transfer can be traced from Nelson and Winter's (1982) seminal work, over Win ter's (1987) conjecture regarding the trade-offs between tacitness and codifica tion of knowledge to a celebrated series of artic1es by Kogut and Zander (1992, 1993, 1996). It conceptualizes the multinational firm as a social community that specializes in the creation and transfer of knowledge. 'Higher order organiza tional routines' and the 'identifications' of their employees place firms in the privileged position to be able to intemally transfer knowledge, especially in its more 'tacit' varieties, more rapidly and cheaply than this can be accomplished through third-party licensing or through involuntary imitation. In this approach, the existence of firms is explained without invocation of 'opportunism' or other transaction cost considerations - a fact that has no doubt contributed to its wide spread appeal.
