Book Kite in An Evening Sky

Download or read book Kite in An Evening Sky written by Shaik Kadir and published by Marshall Cavendish International Asia Pte Ltd. This book was released on 2018-02-15 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Kite in the Evening Sky is Shaik Kadir’s firsthand account of growing up in a Geylang Serai kampung in the late 1950s and 1960s. It was a time when children spent the hours after school playing capteh and marbles, eating fresh jambu, hauling pails of water home from the public standpipe, attending prayers at the surau, learning to fast, reading the Quran, as well as enjoying evenings in the open-air cinema. Despite the poverty, he thrived in the twilight years of the kampung and managed to make his dreams soar like a kite, fulfilling the aspirations of his single mother for a better life in a modernising city. Thoughtful, amusing and heartwarming, these stories hark back to simpler days and humbler ways, offering us a vivid glimpse of the kampung that raised the child.

Book Kites over the Mango Tree

Download or read book Kites over the Mango Tree written by Janet M. Powers and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2008-11-30 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hindu nationalists in the west Indian state of Gujarat repudiate the pluralist vision of Gandhi and Nehru and foment state-sponsored violence and ethnic cleansing against Muslims and Christians. In 2002, the burning to death of 59 rightwing Hindu militants in a train in Gujarat set off waves of state-condoned communal riots in which as many as 2,000 predominantly Muslim Gujaratis were murdered and 200,000 made homeless. In the wake of these atrocities, secular peace-building organizations have redoubled their efforts to heal the rift between Hindus and Muslims in Gujarat. A certified mediator, Janet Powers bases her book on interviews with workers in twenty of these peace-building NGOs and grassroots peace organizations, which are locked in struggle with politicized Hindu religious organizations largely funded by money raised in the United States. This is the first book to examine Hindu-Muslim relations in Gujarat in the frame of ongoing peace and conflict resolution efforts. Gujarat is the state of origin of most of the entrepreneurial Indians who own motels, convenience stores, and gas stations in the United States and United Kingdom. Much of the funding for the rightwing Hindu parties that foment extremist violence, ethnic cleansing, and re-conversion campaigns against the Muslim and Christian minorities in Gujarat comes from Gujarati expatriates in the U.S. and UK. Gujarat is the home of Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated in 1948 by an agent of the RSS, a violently anti-Muslim Hindu nationalist organization that flourishes today in Gujarat in virulent association with the ruling BJP and VHP parties. Equally dangerous to the peace of Gujarat are violent Wahhabist organizations based in Pakistan but operating in India. Powers assesses the prospects for long-term healing in Gujarat based on historical precedents, and she applies the lessons of Gujarati grassroots peace-building organizations in Gujarat to zones of state-sponsored religious conflict in other parts of the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kite flying is a sport native to South-East Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Symbolic of both freedom and control, the kite has been used as a metaphor in classical Indian literature, poetry, language and folklore. Uttarayan, a kite festival celebrated in the state of Gujarat, is not merely a religious observance, but also a time when young and old come together in celebration; a time when differences hold little meaning… The culture of flying and fighting kites, its history, politics, language, and the commerce that lies at the core of the Gujarati way of life provide an interesting backdrop to the celebration of Uttarayan. The buying of kites, preparations in the kitchen and the rooftop wars all form a part of this colourful festival. A Different Freedom explorers the world of the kite, as it travels and changes through the centuries, to its current form and the festivities associated with it in modern day Gujarat.

Book Realization Makes Improvement

Download or read book Realization Makes Improvement written by Tamanna Khan and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2023-03-09 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This motivational book talks about the uneven lifestyle that we all people go through on a daily basis and how should we overcome it by realizing and improving as when there is realization, there is improvement and how to be guided whenever we get muddle-headed. In this book, there are many poetic devices which have been used for comparing human life with nature's life as it depicts that we get mature just like nature. It also talks about how we can get guidance of our goal if there is no person to guide us and by realizing and improving we can make our dream come true. We feel worthless and upset because we get so confused and by this, we stuck in seeing others doing better than us that we lost our own concept of achieving a goal as we get immersed in this worldly life and want to get everything even though we are not conducive of that things in many ways, we focus more on things that everybody wants but not which has already been made for us but the only thing that we can do is to discover our talent but discovering talent won't be easy because it's hard as finding the pearl in a shell and then have to engrave it on a marble which is our soul .failure is not a person who fails but a person who makes decisions and never finishes it. Being thankful to God whenever there is endowment and not to be avaricious as there is difference between being greedy and being passionate because to be greedy does not mean to be passionate and to be passionate does not mean to be greedy. Sometimes there would be weal and woes but to be satisfied, we have to realize and get absorbed to improve in order to discover our own selves in decent yet different ways by being real, hard worker and loyal in accomplishing our dream.
