Para malaikat pun menyampaikan salawat kepadanya sebagai bentuk pujian dan permintaan ampunan, sedangkan orang-orang mukmin bersalawat kepadanya sebagai bentuk penghormatan. Allah SWT berfirman: "Sesungguhnya Allah dan malaikat-malaikat-Nya bersalawat untuk Nabi. Hai orang-orang yang beriman, bersalawatlah kamu untuk Nabi dan ucapkanlah salam penghormatan kepadanya." (QS. al-Azhab: 56) Sebelumnya Allah SWT mengutus para nabi-Nya sebagai rahmat kepada kaum dan zaman mereka saja, namun Allah SWT mengutus beliau saw sebagai rahmat bagi alam semesta. Beliau saw datang dengan membawa rahmat yang mutlak untuk kaum di zamannya dan untuk seluruh zaman. Allah SWT berfirman, "Dan aku tidak mengutusmu kecuali sebagai rahmat bagi alam semesta." Hakikat dakwah para nabi sebelumnya adalah menyebarkan Islam, begitu juga ajaran yang dibawa oleh Nabi yang terakhir adalah Islam. Beliau saw adalah Muhammad bin Abdillah bin Abdul Muthalib, anak seorang wanita Quraisy. Beliau saw adalah pemimpin anak-anak Nabi Adam as.

This city was filled with evil. Its residents waylaid, robbed and killed travelers. Another common evil among them was that men had sex with men instead of with women. This unnatural act later became known as sodomy (after the city of Sodom). It was practiced openly and unashamedly. It was at the height of these crimes and sins that Allah revealed to Prophet Luth (PBUH) that he should summon the people to give up their indecent behavior, but they were so deeply sunk in their immoral habits that they were deaf to Lot's preaching. Swamped in their unnatural desires, they refused to listen, even when Lot warned them of Allah's punishment. Instead, they threatened to drive him out of the city if he kept on preaching. Allah the Almighty revealed: The people of Lot (those dwelt in the towns of Sodom in Palestine) belied the Messengers when their brother Lot said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism) my reward is only from the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists). Go you in unto the males of the Alamin (mankind), and leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your wives? Nay, you are a trespassing people!" They said: "If you cease not, O Lot! Verily, you will be one of those who are driven out!" He said: "I am indeed, of those who disapprove with severe anger and fury your (this evil) action (of sodomy). My Lord! Save me and my family from what they do."

At the age of forty, Prophet Muhammad SAW received his first revelation from God through the Angel Gabriel. The revelations continued for twenty-three years, and they are collectively known as The Holy Quran. As soon as he began to recite the Quran and to preach the truth which Allah SWT (God) had revealed to him, he and his small group of followers suffered persecution from unbelievers. The persecution grew so fierce that in the year 622, God gave them the command to emigrate. This emigration from Makkah to the city of Madinah, some 260 miles to the north, marks the beginning of the Muslim calendar. After several years, Prophet Muhammad SAW and his followers were able to return to Makkah, where they forgave their enemies. Before Prophet Muhammad SAW died, at the age of sixty-three, the greater part of the Arabian Peninsula had become Muslim, and within a century of his death, Islam had spread to Spain in the West and as far East as China. Among the reasons for the rapid and peaceful spread of Islam was the truth and clarity of its doctrine. Islam calls for faith in only one God (Tawhid/Pure Monotheism).

He rejuvenated the Truth as taught by the previous prophets and messengers, and re-established the Law of Allah on Earth through the teachings of the Qur'an and the practice of the Sunnah. At the time of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), two great prophetic religions were practiced in the environs of Arabia - namely Judaism and Christianity. Both of these religions were born from the basic teachings of Islam as taught by Prophet Musa (AS) and Prophet Isa (AS). However, the original teachings were lost, and these religions were born.

Prophet Muhammad SAW was born in Mecca (Makkah), Arabia, on Monday, 12 Rabi' Al-Awal (2 August A.D. 570). His mother, Aminah Bint Wahb, was the daughter of Wahb Ibn Abdu Manaf of the Zahrah family. His father, 'Abdullah, was the son of Abdul Muttalib. His genealogy has been traced to the noble house of Ishmael, the son of Prophet Abraham in about the fortieth descend. Muhammad's father died before his birth. Before he was six years old his mother died, and the doubly orphaned Muhammad was put under the charge of his grandfather Abdul Muttalib who took the most tender care of him. But the old chief died two years afterwards. On his deathbed he confided to his son Abu Talib the charge of the little orphan. When Prophet Muhammad SAW was twelve years old, he accompanied his uncle Abu Talib on a mercantile journey to Syria, and they proceeded as far as Busra.

Since the first man and Prophet Adam (AS) was sent down to Earth, Allah sent many prophets and messengers to guide mankind to the Truth and to the Straight Path. Soon after the deaths of these prophets, their followers deviated from the teachings and corrupted the religion of Allah. He rejuvenated the Truth as taught by the previous prophets and messengers, and re-established the Law of Allah on Earth through the teachings of the Qur'an and the practice of the Sunnah. At the time of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), two great prophetic religions were practiced in the environs of Arabia - namely Judaism and Christianity. Both of these religions were born from the basic teachings of Islam as taught by Prophet Musa (AS) and Prophet Isa (AS). However, the original teachings were lost, and these religions were born.
