For too long, taboos and restrictions have made the lay person, the ordinary individual and the uninitiated seeker slightly wary of this potent talisman that has been left for our benefit by the ancient rishis of India. In this book, JP Vaswani demystifies mantras of their abstraction and esoteric aspects and brings them closer to us for our use. He has chosen to share some of his own favourite mantras, in his characteristically lucid and eloquent expositions about the significance of each. Also included in the book are answers to questions on the use of mantras and their effects. His wisdom, his insights and his profound scholarship are freely offered to us so that we may move onward, forward, Godward! JP VASWANI was one of the leading spiritual luminaries of India. A gifted writer and brilliant orator, Dada, as he was lovingly called, addressed distinguished audiences worldwide on love, faith, joy and peace. He was the recipient of several honors, including the prestigious U Thant Peace Award. He penned over 80 books and many of them have been translated into various foreign languages.

Book Franz Rosenzweig and Jehuda Halevi

Download or read book Franz Rosenzweig and Jehuda Halevi written by Barbara Ellen Galli and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1995 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franz Rosenzweig (1886-1929), one of the most daunting modern Jewish thinkers, exercises a profound influence on contemporary philosophy and modern Jewish thought. In this seminal study, Barbara Galli provides the first English translation of Franz Rosenzweig's Jehuda Halevi: Zweiundneunzig Hymnen und Gedichte, a German translation of the poems of the great medieval Jewish poet Jehuda Halevi, followed by a lively, interpretive response. Galli's primary aim is to explore Rosenzweig's statement that his Notes to Halevi's poems exemplify a practical application of the philosophic system he set out in The Star of Redemption. Through an extended, multifaceted investigation of Rosenzweig's thought, Galli uncovers his philosophy of translation, out of which she determines and unravels his philosophic conclusion and his belief that there is only one language. In the final chapters, she concentrates on the Notes to the poems, and in doing so attempts to philosophize according to Rosenzweig's own mandate: full speech is word and response.

Download or read book Shadows of His Sacrifice written by Leslie Hardinge and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 1996 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes questions are asked regarding the value of a detailed study of the sanctuary. Why, when we have the Christ of the New Testament, do we need to go back into the Old? I find no problem in the way of such a study. You have seen the beautiful illustrations in the books that are sold in Christian bookstores. Do you think that the artist painted these from memory? Why no! He used many models. Today these models, living and inanimate, need not sit for long hours before the artist. He simply takes a colored transparencies of the sections of his picture by posing the model for a few minutes. When he is ready to paint, he works these colored segments together, studying each part in detail. It is for a similar reason that God has given us the details of the sanctuary. We should study each part minutely. Only then will we be able to see Christ in His fullness. We can comprehend only one point at a time. Jesus is the Sacrifice. He is also the preist. He is the Shekinah, and He is also the veil. He is every whit! In order to discern the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, the Mediator of mankind, the Saviour of the race, the Redeemer--King, we must synthesize all aspects of the tabernacle. While we may spend time on one part of His ministry, we should keep in mind that He is many-sided. It is only thus that we will come to understand the One Who is altogether lovely, the chiefest among ten thousand, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hard work required to make God real, how it changes the people who do it, and why it helps explain the enduring power of faith How do gods and spirits come to feel vividly real to people—as if they were standing right next to them? Humans tend to see supernatural agents everywhere, as the cognitive science of religion has shown. But it isn’t easy to maintain a sense that there are invisible spirits who care about you. In How God Becomes Real, acclaimed anthropologist and scholar of religion T. M. Luhrmann argues that people must work incredibly hard to make gods real and that this effort—by changing the people who do it and giving them the benefits they seek from invisible others—helps to explain the enduring power of faith. Drawing on ethnographic studies of evangelical Christians, pagans, magicians, Zoroastrians, Black Catholics, Santeria initiates, and newly orthodox Jews, Luhrmann notes that none of these people behave as if gods and spirits are simply there. Rather, these worshippers make strenuous efforts to create a world in which invisible others matter and can become intensely present and real. The faithful accomplish this through detailed stories, absorption, the cultivation of inner senses, belief in a porous mind, strong sensory experiences, prayer, and other practices. Along the way, Luhrmann shows why faith is harder than belief, why prayer is a metacognitive activity like therapy, why becoming religious is like getting engrossed in a book, and much more. A fascinating account of why religious practices are more powerful than religious beliefs, How God Becomes Real suggests that faith is resilient not because it provides intuitions about gods and spirits—but because it changes the faithful in profound ways.
