Download or read book Clive Caldwell Air Ace written by Kristen Alexander and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2010 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'His courage, determination, skill and his undoubtedly outstanding ability as a leader are an inspiration to his Wing and worthy of the highest praise.' Extract from DSO citation Clive Caldwell was officially attributed with 27 victories and became Australia's highest scoring fighter pilot in World War II. In addition, he became an ace in both the Middle East and Pacific theatres - the only Australian pilot to attain this status. Kristen Alexander has had unrivalled access to Caldwell's personal papers as well as official and privately held records. She vividly brings to life Caldwell's aerial exploits and presents a man driven to carry out his duty. Originally considered an individualist, Caldwell became a fine fighter pilot and a dedicated leader, much loved by those he commanded. But he did not wear the restrictions of the RAAF well and, despite his achievements, endured public inquiry over liquor trading and the so-called 'Morotai Mutiny'. Even so, he continued to be well-regarded and respected by the public. This biography is a celebration of Caldwell's military achievements. It details his rise from a green fighter pilot to Wing leader and includes striking details of his air battles. It also includes unprecedented discussion of the Barry Inquiry and Caldwell's court-martial.
Download or read book Killer Caldwell written by Jeffrey Watson and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clive 'Killer' Caldwell was a natural and brilliant pilot, a superb shot, and a born leader. He saw action against the Germans, Italians and Japanese, and remains Australia's greatest ever fighter pilot. Born and brought up in Sydney, it was obvious from an early age that nothing would stand in Caldwell's way. He bluffed his way into the RAAF, then made sure that he was posted to exactly where he thought he should be. His ability was unquestioned by all those around him, and he devised the vital 'shadow shooting' technique which contributed so much to Allied success in the air in the north African campaign, and in northern Australia. But he was never afraid of voicing his opinions to all those above and below him, be it about the training of pilots, or the equipping of Spitfires for use against the Japanese - and for trying to run the show his way... Caldwell ended his military career in the Morotai Mutiny in 1945, where he and a number of other Australian pilots tried to resign their commisions in protest at not being allowed by General MacArthur - and the RAAF - to take part in the main action. And then he was embroiled in the Barry inquiry into booze smuggling by him and other pilots... Killer Caldwell is a colourful portrait of a colourful Australian.

Download or read book Behavior of Marine Animals written by Howard E. Winn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four years ago we began soliciting articles for this volume from authors who were engaged in comprehensive research on whales. From the outset we decided not to limit the subject matter to behavior but to also include natural history. Much of what is known about the behavior of whales arose from studies whose principal aim was not behavior, much as it did for other animal groups before behavior was considered a distinct discipline. Thus in many of the articles behavior is closely intertwined with natural history and in others is completely overshadowed by a basic natural history approach. Our aim was to have the articles contain a review of the literature and include research findings not previously published. For all intents and purposes this aim has been realized, albeit perhaps not in as balanced a fashion in terms of species or subject matter as was originally planned. Nevertheless, we believe the articles present a wide range of informative works with a myriad of approaches and techniques represented. We are grateful to the contributors for their patience and understanding in awaiting publication, which has taken much longer than we originally expected. We are also grateful tor the assistance of a number of people, especially Julie Fischer and Lois Winn for their editorial efforts, and Jill Grover, Carol Samet, and Lois Winn for their help in indexing.

Book excerpt: Wendell Sanger burns for the touch of young skin and the feel of young girls. He stalks his prey with the methodical organization that he uses in his business. He feels neither shame nor remorse, and he feels no satisfaction except for that brief moment when he is gorging himself on his victim. Ernest Caldwell is the police chief of Mossberg, Arkansas. His only companions are his bottle of Jack Daniels and his deputy. The townspeople see him as a lecherous boor of a man with no morals or ability, but he does work cheap and there is little crime in Mossberg. Wendell walks so close to the edge of sanity that he passes unnoticed. Ernest walks so close to the edge of corruption that he has no credibility. The murder of Kelly Settle will change both menas lives forever as one manas obsession becomes the other manas redemption.

It has been extremely helpful in my practice with treating PTSD and is one of the best books I have ever read.” Judith Box, MD, Psychiatrist “I was 7 years old when my brother served in Vietnam. Thirty years later, he still has never spoken a word about Vietnam. After reading Widowmaker, I understood his silence.
