Book Georgia Odyssey

    Book Details:
  • Author : James C. Cobb
  • Publisher : University of Georgia Press
  • Release : 2010-01-25
  • ISBN : 0820335096
  • Pages : 202 pages

Download or read book Georgia Odyssey written by James C. Cobb and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2010-01-25 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Georgia Odyssey is a lively survey of the state’s history, from its beginnings as a European colony to its current standing as an international business mecca, from the self-imposed isolation of its Jim Crow era to its role as host of the centennial Olympic Games and beyond, from its long reign as the linchpin state of the Democratic Solid South to its current dominance by the Republican Party. This new edition incorporates current trends that have placed Georgia among the country’s most dynamic and attractive states, fueled the growth of its Hispanic and Asian American populations, and otherwise dramatically altered its demographic, economic, social, and cultural appearance and persona. “The constantly shifting cultural landscape of contemporary Georgia,” writes James C. Cobb, “presents a jumbled panorama of anachronism, contradiction, contrast, and peculiarity.” A Georgia native, Cobb delights in debunking familiar myths about his state as he brings its past to life and makes it relevant to today. Not all of that past is pleasant to recall, Cobb notes. Moreover, not all of today’s Georgians are as unequivocal as the tobacco farmer who informed a visiting journalist in 1938 that “we Georgians are Georgian as hell.” That said, a great many Georgians, both natives and new arrivals, care deeply about the state’s identity and consider it integral to their own. Georgia Odyssey is the ideal introduction to our past and a unique and often provocative look at the interaction of that past with our present and future.

Book Letter Tracing and Coloring Book for Kids Georgian Alphabets

Download or read book Letter Tracing and Coloring Book for Kids Georgian Alphabets written by Second Teacher and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-21 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Parents, The Georgian alphabet is unique in the world: it is used only to write Georgian (and, occasionally, some minority languages of Georgia). To be precise, there are three Georgian alphabets: asomtavruli (ასომთავრული), nuskhuri (ნუსხური) and mkhedruli (მხედრული). The script used today (and on this website) is mkhedruli, which dates back to the 10th century; you will see the other two only in religious inscriptions and many Georgians cannot read them. Georgian is written from left to right, its alphabet is made of 33 letters, it has no upper or lower case, and uses punctuations marks you already know. Georgian has many difficulties, but spelling is not one of them: each letter represents one sound and conversely. There are several romanization systems for Georgian. The national system, used on this website, is used by the Georgian government, for instance in passports and road signs, although apostrophes are commonly ignored and some letters are inconsistently romanized on road signs. The language is a basic characteristic which constitutes one's own representation of who you are. Children and Parents may feel that using English as a common language, it won't matter whether they learn Georgian or not. It happens that your child might just stop speaking Georgian, leading to identity change. Since a child's Georgian language skills are lacking, they will not be able to interact well in Georgian as they do in English. How can parents support their child's learning process? Here the solution is! This book enables your kids to practice and learn letters, words in an interesting way. Content of the book: For each alphabet letter there will be a page. 1st page has an outline of a letter with the image that starting with that letter, name in Georgian, English with the phonics of Georgian name and image. The children can color the letter and images that are allocated for each letter. 2nd page is for next alphabet. This book has similar setup for all the alphabets till page number 35. Pages 36-43 contains all alphabets in single pages with space for practice. 44-60 is having box spaces to practice Georgian alphabet further. That looks like a great start right!!! Hope your kids will learn something useful in the meantime. Let us gift meaningful book as a gift to our kids. ⚠ If you loved ♥ the book, we request you to take a moment to review it (★★★★★). It helps in further progression for our future works. Thanks for your support Team SECOND TEACHER(TM)

Book Love Stories

Download or read book Love Stories written by Paul Manning and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the remote highlands of the country of Georgia, a small group of mountaindwellers called the Khevsurs used to express sexuality and romance in ways that appear to be highly paradoxical. On the one hand, their practices were romantic, but could never lead to marriage. On the other hand, they were sexual, but didn't correspond to what North Americans, or most Georgians, would have called sex. These practices were well documented by early ethnographers before they disappeared completely by the midtwentieth century, and have become a Georgian obsession. In this fascinating book, Manning recreates the story of how these private, secretive practices became a matter of national interest, concern, and fantasy. Looking at personal expressions of love and the circulation of these narratives at the broader public level of the modern nation, Love Stories offers an ethnography of language and desire that doubles as an introduction to key linguistic genres and to the interplay of language and culture.

Book Children s Spirituality Second Edition

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Society of Children's Spirituality: Christian Perspectives launched in 2003 with its first conference held at Concordia University Chicago, in River Forest, Illinois. An earlier edition of this book, composed of chapters based on presentations from that conference, was published in 2004. In 2018 a decision was made to revise this book from the inaugural conference, updating some chapters and providing a new perspective on the ongoing work of the organization, now called the Children's Spirituality Summit. For example, given the advances in what we are learning from brain research, a chapter on this topic has been extensively updated. What this revised volume provides is a collection of chapters offering theological perspectives, social science research, and insights on ministry practice about the spiritual lives of children: how they relate to God, how this relationship grows, and what helps in promoting the spiritual formation and vitality of children in the home, church, and school This book offers twenty-three chapters by professors, graduate students, social science researchers, and ministry leaders from different denominational traditions addressing a wide range of issues in theory, research, and ministry practice with children. This second edition offers much to learn from, stimulate your thinking, and improve your practice.

Book Relational Discipline

Download or read book Relational Discipline written by William N. Bender and published by IAP. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exciting work offers an entirely new way to address the discipline problems that have become so common in our public schools! Dr. Bender's emphasis on relationships as the basis of all effective discipline has now been widely recognized as cutting edge within the field, and this book presents many practical strategies that teachers can use to manage even the most disruptive students in the class—the kids that always seem to be "in-your-face." Strategies include many tried-and-true ideas that are now reinterpreted based on their impact on the relationship between the student and the teacher. Further, many new strategies, such as "Responsibility strategies," "Strength-based assessment," and "Let's Make a Deal" are presented, with the overriding emphasis on building positive relationships with even the most challenging and demanding students. This paradigm shift toward the emphasis on positive relationships represents the first truly new look at discipline and classroom management in over thirty years—since the growth of behavioral management plans. As teachers prepare for the classrooms of today, they will need these practical, workable, and research proven strategies, embedded within a new theory of discipline in the classroom.
