Download or read book Keyboard Concerto in B flat Major Op 2 written by Carl Ludwig Junker and published by A-R Editions, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A pastor, critic, and writer by profession, Carl Ludwig Junker today is far better known for his books, articles, and published letters than for his musical compositions. As one of the most interesting and perceptive commentators and theorists of the late eighteenth century, Junker provided valuable information about contemporary musicians and music making during his lifetime. Junker also wrote twenty-four symphonies (now lost), thirteen piano pieces, and several songs. The concerto presented in this edition, opus 2, was published by Bossler in 1782. As Junkers only surviving concerto, it enriches our understanding and appreciation of the early piano concerto, a genre that would find its full realization in the hands of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.

Download or read book The Finale in Western Instrumental Music written by Michael Talbot and published by Oxford Monographs on Music. This book was released on 2001 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The knowledge that finales are by tradition (and perhaps also necessarily) 'different' from other movements has been around a long time, but this is the first time that the special nature of finales in instrumental music has been examined comprehensively and in detail. Three main types offinale, labelled 'relaxant', 'summative', and 'valedictory', are identified. Each type is studied closely, with a wealth of illustration and analytical commentary covering the entire period from the Renaissance to the present day. The history of finales in five important genres -- suite, sonata, string quartet, symphony, and concerto -- is traced, and the parallels and divergences between these traditions are identified. Several wider issues are mentioned, including narrativity, musical rounding, inter-movement relationships, and the nature of codas. The book ends with a look at thefinales of all Shostakovich's string quartets, in which examples of most of the types may be found.

Download or read book Concerto for Four Harpsichords written by Georg Christoph Wagenseil and published by A-R Editions, Inc.. This book was released on with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Georg Christoph Wagenseil’s (1715–77) concerto for four harpsichords, scored without orchestra, remains the only known work of its kind based on entirely original material. There are no other known works for four harpsichords besides Bach’s concerto in A minor for four harpsichords and strings, BWV 1065, itself an adaptation of Vivaldi’s four-violin concerto in B minor, RV 580. Wagenseil’s concerto provides an interesting footnote in the development of historical keyboard instruments. Alongside a few other Viennese keyboard works, the concerto features large bass intervals necessitating the use of the Viennese short octave—a keyboard configuration with multiply split bass keys unique to mid-18th-century Viennese keyboard building. This fact further establishes the relevance of early Viennese keyboard instruments in historical keyboard performance. Several aspects of performance practice unique to Wagenseil’s concerto are discussed in the introduction to the edition: continuo realization for a keyboard concerto without orchestra, negotiating the requirements of the Viennese short octave on instruments with chromatic keyboards, and interpreting the notational idiosyncrasies of the manuscript source.
