Book Keep Your Horse in Sync with the Seasons

Download or read book Keep Your Horse in Sync with the Seasons written by Cassie Schuster and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-02-26 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the FALL book of 'Keep Your Horse in Sync with the Seasons', Dr. Cassie focuses on which whole foods to use and "why" as your horse goes through the stress of dropping temperatures and shorter days. This book set has been in my head for several years and I'm thrilled to say that it's finally a finished project! Through the struggles of cancer and treatment, to recovering and regaining my strength both physically and mentally, I pushed through to reach my goal of sharing this information with others. My passion - for both animals and people - is teaching how "real" food heals "real" bodies. In these seasonal books, I have taken the science and synergy of whole foods and created meaningful recipes to address typical health issues your horse faces with each season. For instance, the SPRING book addresses seasonal allergies, hormonal surges from lengthening days, preventing gas and bloat from new spring grasses, and more. Followed by SUMMER, this book addresses hot weather issues such as adequate hydration, heat stress, dealing with horses who live in dry conditions, and more. The FALL and WINTER books follow suit and address conditions typical in those seasons. Each seasonal book will have it's own recipe for gut health and probiotic support. Each season includes bonus recipes for parasite control. There are Success Stories to highlight health issues and I share with you what recipes I used to overcome them. My goal in this seasonal cookbook series with whole foods, is to teach you how to combine herbs, spices, nuts/seeds, vegetables, and fruits into significant combinations that will support your horse's gut while building immunity and creating a nutritional reserve to stave off illness and disease. I hope the contents of my books open a dialog between you and me, you and your vet, you and other horse lovers, and motivate you to integrate your current feeding routine with healthy choices of whole foods. Dr. Cassie Schuster, Equine Naturopath, Certified Nutritionist, and Master Herbalist guides you through 13 recipes whose seasonal foods support your horse's gut, immune system, hoof health, and much more. In addition, you'll find a section on 'Offering New Foods to Your Horse', as well as two recipes for parasite prevention.

Nobody knows this better than Cherry Hill, professional horsekeeper, lifelong horse lover, and author of more than 30 books on horses. If it involves horses, Hill knows what to do and when to do it. Her routines Ñ daily, monthly, and seasonal Ñ are the framework for Cherry Hill's Horsekeeping Almanac, a gold mine of knowledge for all horse enthusiasts. Month by month, Hill touches on every issue likely to affect horses, horse farms, and the people who care for them both. Each month opens with a brief description of what's happening on the farm, followed by notes on specific, month-appropriate topics. May, for example, includes advice on grazing, snakes, composting, bathing and clipping, and fire strips. November features colic, fire ants, winter water, dry shampoo, and outdoor horse clothing. Every month includes recurring reminders, to-do lists, reference charts, climate notes, equine wit and wisdom, a word of the month, and an "Ask Cherry" section featuring seasonally relevant excerpts from her newsletter Ñ all the fascinating tidbits, lore, and handed-down insights that make almanacs so fascinating. Tying everything together is Cherry Hill's trusted voice and deep-seated knowledge of horses. This is a book readers will keep on hand to welcome each new season on the farm. Horsekeepers will browse it frequently, use it as a reference in times of doubt, keep reminders in it, and come back to it year after year Ñ a reminder of their own horsekeeping seasons. It will become, in Cherry Hill's words, a Horsekeeping Master Plan.

Book excerpt: A modern reference for those who wish to manage horses in ways that improve equine well-being by encouraging a healthy, safe, active lifestyle. As times have changed, so has our understanding of the social, psychological, and physical needs of the animals in our care. As open spaces shrink, our view of what is required to keep horses as best suits their nature is expanding. The result is a need for guidance when it comes to making decisions related to modern-day equine management best practices. The hard truth is that the creatures who have long been our companions have also long been expected to adapt to living situations created with primarily human convenience and comfort in mind. With this inspiringly illustrated guidebook, natural horsekeeping expert Iveta Jebáčková-Lazanská hopes to help everyone with horses create sophisticated, functional, equine-centric stable systems, in which horses, nature, and people thrive. Jebáčková-Lazanská demonstrates how, for those who want to, it's possible to find ways to make outdoor horsekeeping work via a system that has slowly emerged over time that can work for any property, whether small or large. Already, it has been proven to work well by horse owners all over the world, some of whom contributed their knowledge and experiences to these pages. Topics explored include: Size and type of basic enclosures. Dealing with weather- and environment-related challenges, like mud. Location of, type of, and materials used in sheds, shelters, and stalls. Footing, surfaces, and bedding, both temporary and permanent. Water supplies and weather concerns. "Horse toilets." Feeder types, locations, and arrangements. Fencing, and paddock and pasture management, including rotation, fertilizing, and seasonal concerns. Areas to roll, wallow, and play. Natural trees, shrubs, and grasses to encourage and discourage. Pest control. Adjusting for the seasons, and your region and climate. With success stories throughout to serve as both evidence and inspiration, readers are certain to come away armed with all they need to allow their horses to live life as they were meant to, in tune with their instinctual needs for forage, movement, and choice, and in concert with the natural world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This marvelous book, borne of a unique collaboration between Dr. Allen Schoen—a world-renowned veterinarian and author—and trainer and competitor of many years Susan Gordon, introduces the 25 Principles of Compassionate Equitation. These Principles, conceived by Dr. Schoen and Gordon, are a set of developmental guidelines, encouraging a level of personal awareness that may be enacted not only through the reader's engagement with horses, but can be extended to all humans and sentient beings he or she encounters. The 25 Principles share stories and outline current, peer-reviewed studies that identify and support methods of training, handling, and caring for horses that constitute a safe, healthy, non-stressful, and pain-free environment. Through their Compassionate Equestrian program, the authors encourage all involved in the horse industry to approach training and handling with compassion and a willingness to alleviate suffering. By developing deeper compassion for their own horses, and subsequently, all equines, equestrians transcend their differences in breed preferences, riding disciplines, and training methodologies. This leads to the ability to empathize and connect more closely with the “global collective” of horses and horse people. In doing so, a worldwide community of compassionate equine practitioners and horse owners will emerge, which will not only benefit the horses: People involved with horses are found in many influential segments of society and have the potential to affect wide circles of friends, acquaintances, and co-workers from every walk of life. These are simple changes any horse person can make that can have a vast impact on the horse industry and society as a whole.
