Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virginia was a battleground state in the struggle to implement Brown v. Board of Education, with one of the South’s largest and strongest NAACP units fighting against a program of noncompliance crafted by the state’s political leaders. Keep On Keeping On offers a detailed examination of how African Americans and the NAACP in Virginia successfully pursued a legal agenda that provided new educational opportunities for the state’s black population in the face of fierce opposition from segregationists and the Democratic Party of Harry F. Byrd Sr. Keep On Keeping On is the first book to offer a comprehensive view of African Americans’ efforts to obtain racial equality in Virginia in the later twentieth century. Brian J. Daugherity considers the relationship between the various levels of the NAACP, the ideas and actions of other African American organizations, and the stances of Virginia’s political leaders, white liberals and moderates, and segregationists. In doing so, the author provides a better understanding of the connections between the actions of white political leaders and those of black civil rights activists working to bring about school desegregation. Blending social, legal, southern, and African American history, this book sheds new light on the civil rights movement and white resistance to civil rights in Virginia and the South.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over five years ago, God directed author Jerry Gano to pen daily posts on social media. Over a thousand posts later, Gano’s bite-sized Biblically inspired observations are collected in one place as Briefcase Wisdom for a Backpack Culture. For each day of the year, Gano has constructed a short, relatable devotional, accompanied by a corresponding Bible verse. He intends to enlighten the curious reader with scripture and his own observations based on years of study and prayer, in turn bringing them closer to Christ. Gano has experienced trials, heartache, sickness, and pain. The enemy of his soul has attacked heartily, but he is sure of one thing: if God goes before him, who can stand against him? We are nothing, in and of ourselves, but with God leading and directing our paths, everything will turn out okay.

Book Poetic Feel of an Urban Warrior

Download or read book Poetic Feel of an Urban Warrior written by Ron "Angola" Brady and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-07-05 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the heart of this book lies a creative, yet bold and inspiring manifesto of poetry, essays, and spoken words conceptualized with the purpose of educating and motivating people of the Black/Afrikan collective to find their place in our struggle and to take part in it. Concisely placed within three chapters entitled 2 Black-2 Strong, Payin Proper Respects, and Man Up Time, the author seizes to make his voice heard and presence felt on the dynamics of our struggle and the lack of voices and pro-active presence that inevitably seems to make our struggle one of capitulation. Written as a combustible result of dissatisfaction, pride, love and self-identity, with a dire concern that refuses to be extinguished, this book must be read with the objective of harboring the heat of social truth until it's your (the readers) turn to regurgitate what you poetically feel you must say...
