Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRANSFER in Kashi and the River of Time is a travelogue written during a visit to Kashi aka Varanasi--the eternal City of Light on the banks of the timeless Ganges river in India. Spirituality pulsates here and life and death are celebrated every day where the crossing or transfer between different realms is an ongoing process. The passing of a loved one plays a dominant role; the author takes on a pilgrimage to Kashi to come to terms with the grief she suffered at the passing of her father in 2012. Her father had been brought up in a Christian household in North Iceland but with a multireligious twist due to his mothers interest in India, contemplative studies, and yoga. In this record of discoveries and experiences on her visit to Kashi and drawing on examples from her dream journal while in India, the author reflects on the ancient teachings of the evolution of consciousness--some of which originated in Kashi--and the role of contemplation and dreams in that progress for profound transformation of the whole being. At the same time, enhancing the sense of self and nourishing the relationship with the centre of being for consolation and oneness. A young boy of eight has the humble dream of becoming an animal tamer; animals and animal deities are everywhere in Kashi. This is the story of a path when embarking on a new future.

Download or read book Planetary Equatorium of Jamshid Ghiyath al Din al Kashi written by and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instruments for solving astronomical problems are part of a continuous tradition reaching far back through the Middle Ages into the Hellenistic world. Dr. Kennedy expands the history of analog computers by providing an account of an important development in Central Asia where, in the Samarqand observatory of the Timurid prince Ulugh Beg, an outstanding mathematician of the fifteenth century invented his unique planetary equatorium. With this mechanico-graphical device, Kashi determined solar, lunar, and planetary true longitudes and predicted eclipses, obtaining magnitude, time, and duration. His was the only equatorium with which the determination of planetary latitudes was attempted. In this sense it represents the apex of development reached by this class of instrument. Dr. Kennedy here presents the text of the Persian manuscript describing Kashi's instrument together with an English translation and commentaryÃ? Originally published in 1960. Download or read book Abandoned Moments written by Ed Kashi and published by Kehrer Verlag. This book was released on 2021-11-09 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the decisive moment reflects reality in tune with the photographer's intuition, flawlessly combining composition and timing, then the abandoned moment is the consequence of a fractional instant of surrender. This collection, made over a 40-year period, reveals imprecise glimpses of transitory events filled with frenetic energy - the chaos of everyday life. Embodying photography's intrinsic power, they preserve moments that can never occur again in exactly the same time and space. When geometry, mood, and possibility unite to unintentionally create something new, the magical and fictional qualities of still photography capture the unplanned essence of existence. In contrast to my journalistic approach of deep personal connection and keen observation, this work is about capturing the untamed energy of a moment with abandon.
