The work expresses deep emotion. For Viktoriia, the loss of her father was devastating, and it remains so to this day. Sometimes, suffering and longing for relatives who have departed for another world causes an emotional eruption that is hard to stop. Viktoriia expresses this on paper in the form of poetry. Anatoly will always live in Viktoriia's memory. Of the vast body of work she has produced on the subject of her father, 11 poems are published here. The third section is about the weather, the seasons of the year, and Wyoming and nature. These are perhaps Viktoriia's favorite topics to write about. She has written more poems in this genre than any other. The poems in the fourth section address the concept of God. Viktoriia believes deeply in God, and sometimes has prophetic dreams that later come true. One of these miraculous dreams, about God and the Archangel Michael, has been crafted into a poem. His Masters of the Chessboard will be a distant second and that is unfortunate, because in many ways Masters is more comprehensive and instructive than its better-known predecessor. He packs it with advice, even for beginners. Opening theory is a priority. Réti tells the student to understand "the basic idea” of each opening, and goes into considerable detail as he explains each of the popular lines of the day, including, of course, his own Réti Opening. Some of the finest parts of the book are the mini-essays, most of them on openings, but also on rook endgames. It's remarkable that Réti manages to do this without going into long variations. This practical approach is also evident when he deals with positional themes. For example, Masters can be appreciated as almost a primer on the subject of how to turn the two bishops into a significant advantage. In hopes that this piece will help families grapple with uncomfortable conversations regarding life cycles. Leaving an open ending where we as adults are able to fill in the blanks for our little ones as we see fit.
