This book was released on 2014-02-02 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetic Reflections and Songs of an Awakening Hu-man, along with their Prose Inspirational Backgrounds, offering Reading Pleasure, Food For Thought, and Space for the Reader's Own Reflections. “You see, in reality, we are each an important and colorful piece of the “picturesquely diversified” kaleidoscope of life, and the Big Picture is incomplete until we all contribute our own unique piece!” Since creativity is contagious, The Poet shares thoughts, and poems, and songs in the hope that these moments together will prime the pump of the Reader's own innate Creative Genius! As The Poet states, “We really need each other, and the encouragement that our associations bring. So, as you read the everyday life's experiences that are shared, and your imagination begins to take flight, you can immediately use the space that has been provided in this book at the end of every “Reflection” to record your own “Reflections” and ideas, and creative musings. Everyone has a piece of this life's puzzle, and we need them all, YOURS AND MINE. The picture will not be complete until we have all contributed our part. Together we can fill our world with the order and beauty that we are all craving.”When facing life's everyday experiences The Heart of The Poet looks at these pivotal awakening points, pauses to ponder their profound meanings, and then creates a poem, and often a song, to develop a deeper expression of the new truths learned. Then, as we each turn the kaleidoscope of our own individual special life we are enabled to reflect upon the whole picture of past, present, and future experiences that make up the many facets of the diamond that we each are. The world hungrily awaits the unique creative endeavors that come out of those inspired reflections!!!“Kaleidoscope” is a beautiful word to describe the experience and purpose of this book! The ever-changing world of the Kaleidoscope has been defined as, “an optical tube in which bits of glass and beads are shown in changing symmetrical forms by reflection in two or more mirrors as the tube is turned; anything that shifts continually: picturesquely diversified; and, observation of beautiful forms. The Reader is enriched by The Poet's experience, encouraged to reflect upon the twists and turns of everyday life, and to express the new truths learned from life's experiences in their own artistic creative expressions. “We live in an exciting kaleidoscopic age of discovery (both personal and collective) and technological advancement, and the pruning of those two branches of our life's tree will determine the quality of the fruit that we bear. It has been my experience, and my observation, that, as wonderful as the technological world is, it may be costing us our Hu-man-ness!” The Reader is encouraged to “Come apart before you come apart”, because we Hu-mans have a basic need to pause, reflect, and connect to our real “Home” center. The Poet encourages us to give ourselves time to awaken to our own creative possibilities. “This is a Poetry book. It is not a scientific dissertation. Poets want to provoke, educate, awaken, feel, think, inspire, and reflect, so that their personal awakenings will help to encourage a universal awakening. ..., in the hope that we will all grow together into the awesome Promises and Possibilities that We ARE!”We are living in an exciting age of “Aha!” moments, so, as you turn the kaleidoscope of your life, I invite you to use the space provided in this book as a sounding-board for your own personal awakenings in your life, in your quest toward finding and fulfilling your life's purpose, and in your spiritual walk. “Welcome to my world!”

Book excerpt: Mirrors are mesmerizing. The rhetorical figure that represents a mirror is called a chiasmus, a pattern derived from the Greek letter X (Chi). This pattern applies to sentences such as "one does not live to eat; one eats to live." It is found in myths, plays, poems, biblical songs, short stories, novels, epics. Numerous studies have dealt with repetition, difference, and Narcissism in the fields of literature, music, and art. But mirror structures, per se, have not received systematic notice. This book analyses mirror imagery, scenes, and characters in French prose texts, in chronological order, from the 17th to the 20th centuries. It does so in light of literal, metaphoric, and rhetorical structures. Works analysed in the traditional French canon, written by such writers as Laclos, Lafayette, and Balzac, are extended by studies of texts composed by Barbey d'Aurevilly, Georges Rodenbach, Jean Lorrain, and Pieyre de Mandiargues. This work appeals to readers interested in linguistics, French history, psychology, art, and material culture. It invites analyses of historical and ideological contexts, rhetorical strategies, symmetry and asymmetry. Ovid's Narcissus and Alice in Wonderland are paradigms for the study of micro and macro-structures. Analyses of mirrors as cultural artefacts are significant to Lowrie's sight seeing.

Book The State of the Real

Download or read book The State of the Real written by Damian Sutton and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2007-01-24 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New media, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybernetics: are the latest technologies push back the very limits of 'reality'. The nature of the real in the digital age is ever more hotly debated and the place of these debates in visual culture can hardly be overstated. Innovative and provocative, this book brings together the latest research on 'the state of the real' by practitioners and commentators across the disciplines of photography, film, media studies, critical theory and fine art. Engaging with the work of critics and thinkers as varied as Linda Nochlin, Lev Manovich and Donna Harroway, Lyotard, Baudrillard and Barthes, "The State of the Real" looks first at the different ways in which 'realism' and reality have been understood in recent art history, with a particular focus on debates about the real within photography. Emphasising the role of art in shaping, as well as reflecting, notions of the real, the book features contributions from a number of contemporary artists and showcases a new photoessay by artist Andrew Lee. The collection looks finally towards advanced technologies and the virtual world in a section which concludes with a specially commissioned contribution by acclaimed thinker Slavoj Zizek. This is an indispensable volume for students of 'the digital age' across the fields of art and photography, film, media studies and critical and visual theory.

Book The Piano in Nineteenth Century British Culture

Download or read book The Piano in Nineteenth Century British Culture written by Susan Wollenberg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of The London Pianoforte School (ed. Nicholas Temperley) twenty years ago, research has proliferated in the area of music for the piano during the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and into developments in the musical life of London, for a time the centre of piano manufacturing, publishing and performance. But none has focused on the piano exclusively within Britain. The eleven chapters in this volume explore major issues surrounding the instrument, its performers and music within an expanded geographical context created by the spread of the instrument and the growth of concert touring. Topics covered include: the piano trade and how piano manufacturing affected a major provincial town; the reception of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and Clementi's Gradus ad Parnassum during the nineteenth century; the shift from composer-pianists to pianist-interpreters in the first half of the century that triggered crucial changes in piano performance and concert structure; the growth of musical life in the peripheries outside major musical centres; the pianist as advocate for contemporary composers as well as for historical repertory; the status of British pianists both in relation to foreigners on tour in Britain and as welcomed star performers in outposts of the Empire; marketing forces that had an impact on piano sales, concerts and piano careers; leading virtuosos, writers and critics; the important role played by women pianists and the development of the recording industry, bringing the volume into the early twentieth century.
