Book Growth Cycles and Distribution

Download or read book Growth Cycles and Distribution written by Hiroaki Sasaki and published by Apollo Books. This book was released on 2014 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of Hiroaki Sasaki's contributions to further developing the Kaleckian model of analyzing economic growth cycles and distribution. The Kaleckian model is a post-Keynesian type of growth model based on a principle of effective demand. It investigates how changes in income distribution affect microeconomic variables, such as economic growth, output, and employment. Although many discussions of the Kaleckian model focus on short-run economic growth, Sasaki's main contribution is that he also considers medium and long-runs. Sasaki also introduces a variety of factors, such as differentiating between profit-led and wage-led regimes and investigating how the wage gap between regular and non-regular types of employment affects economic growth. The earlier versions of the papers collected here have been previously published in esteemed academic journals, such as Structural Change and Economic Dynamics, Journal of Economics, International Review of Applied Economics, and Metroeconomics.

Book An Alternative Macroeconomic Theory The Kaleckian Model and Post Keynesian Economics

Download or read book An Alternative Macroeconomic Theory The Kaleckian Model and Post Keynesian Economics written by John E. King and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: lE. King Michael Kalecki (1899-1970) was one of the most important, and also one of the most underrated, economists of the twentieth century. In the 1930s he made a series of fundamental contributions to macroeconomic theory which anticipated, complemented and in some ways surpassed those of Keynes. Almost entirely self-educated in economics, and influenced rul much by Marxism as by mainstream theory, Kalecki very largely escaped the fatal embrace of pre-Keynesian orthodoxy, which blunted the thrust of the General Theory. Many Post Keynesians, in particular, have found in his work the elements of a convincing alternative to what Joan Robinson -Kalecki's greatest advocate in the English-speaking world - was scathingly to describe as 'bastard Keynesianism' . But Kalecki was never interested in theory for its own sake. He approached economics from a practical perspective, wrote extensively on applied and policy questions, and in the [mal decades of his life turned his attention increasingly to problems of economic development and the management of state socialist economies.

Book Secular Stagnation Theories

Download or read book Secular Stagnation Theories written by Christina Anselmann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-17 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of weak economic performances and rising income disparities across the developed world during the past decades, this book provides a comprehensive overview of secular stagnation theories in the history of economic thought and examines the role of income distribution in various stagnation hypotheses. By offering a historical perspective, from the classical economists to the most recent stagnation debate of the early twenty-first century, the author shows that most stagnation theories were developed in periods of high and/or rising income disparities. Eventually, it was Josef Steindl, one of the least recognized stagnationists in the history of economic thought, who put the distribution of income at the heart of his stagnation theory. While Josef Steindl focused on the nexus between the functional distribution of income and economic growth, this book includes the personal distribution of income in a Kaleckian-Steindlian model of economic growth and stagnation. In the model presented, the nexus between economic growth and the distribution of income is a priori uncertain, depending on the type of economic shock and the specific economic circumstances. The author also discusses various empirically oriented policy implications aimed at fostering both economic growth and a more equal distribution of income. This book appeals to scholars in economics and the history of economic thought interested in economic growth, secular stagnation, and income distribution.

With a central focus on the role played by government spending, deficits and debt as well as the setting of interest rates, the chapters propose alternative policies that can be used by central banks and fiscal authorities to deal with problems of income inequality, unemployment and slow productivity.

Book Heterodox Macroeconomics

Download or read book Heterodox Macroeconomics written by Robert A. Blecker and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2019 with total page 643 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 10.0px Arial} The last few decades have witnessed an outpouring of literature on macroeconomic models in the broad ‘heterodox’ tradition of Marx, Keynes, Robinson, Kaldor and Kalecki. These models yield an alternative analytical framework in which the big questions of our day – such as how inequality is related to growth or stagnation, and whether long-run growth is stable or unstable – can be fruitfully addressed. Heterodox Macroeconomics provides an accessible, pedagogically oriented treatment of the leading models and approaches in heterodox macroeconomics with clear, step-by-step presentations of core models and their solutions, properties and implications.

Book Income Distribution and the Multiplier

Download or read book Income Distribution and the Multiplier written by Franz J. Prante and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, I show that the income-autonomous demand multiplier of Keynesian-Kaleckian models is endogenous to changes in income distribution. This effect gives rise to non-linearity of distributional effects, even in basic models. Under certain conditions, an important consequence from the distribution-sensitive multiplier is that a higher wage share can have increasingly expansionary effects, which might even shift a profit-led investment regime to a wage-led one in the basic post-Kaleckian model. Surprisingly, the respective literature on distribution and growth largely ignored these features of Keynesian-Kaleckian macroeconomic models. After a theoretical discussion on the implications of the distribution-sensitive multiplier in basic closed- and openeconomy models, I present a counterfactual illustration based on empirical parameter estimations from the literature and the development of functional income distribution for selected EU countries. My analysis indicates that a rising profit share has put partial downward pressure on the wage-ledness of aggregate demand in many EU countries. These results stress the relevance of this particular form of path dependency for empirical research and policy debates on distribution and growth.

Download or read book Money Distribution Conflict and Capital Accumulation written by E. Hein and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-12-19 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book Economic Growth and Distribution

Download or read book Economic Growth and Distribution written by Neri Salvadori and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic Growth and Distribution isolates and compares the logical structures and methodological underpinnings underlying the relationship between economic growth and distribution. It carries out an in-depth analysis of a wide range of issues connected with growth theory considered from different theoretical perspectives. Its uniqueness is derived from the original contributions by a number of scholars of different persuasions; some within the mainstream and others from Keynesian-Kaleckian-Sraffian positions. The book deals with a wide variety of research topics concerning economic growth and distribution, such as the transition from the epoch of Malthusian stagnation to the contemporary era of modern economic growth; comparisons among the classical tradition, modern theory, and heterodox models; problems of policy; dynamics and business cycles; the role on institutions.
