Book Fire and Life Safety Educator

Download or read book Fire and Life Safety Educator written by IFSTA and published by Fire Protection Publication. This book was released on 2011-02-01 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third edition of Fire and Life Safety Educator provides the educator with knowledge to support successful performance as a fire and life safety educator as addressed in NFPAr 1035, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire and Life Safety Educator, Public Information Officer, and Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist. In addition, the manual meets the learning outcomes of the National Fire Academy's Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) non-core course Fire and Life Safety Educator. New to the Fire and Life Safety Educator manual is the addition of two levels: Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist I and Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist II. All levels are covered separately for ease of use. In all, the third edition covers five levels of the standard: * Fire and Life Safety Educator Level I: Chapters 2-6 * Fire and Life Safety Educator Level II: Chapter 7-11 * Fire and Life Safety Educator Level III: Chapters 12-16 * Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist I: Chapters 17-20 * Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist II: Chapters 21-25 This manual should be the first document on a public educator's bookshelf and a "ready reference" of public education knowledge. The manual is intended to educate the educator rather than to train the educator. In this way, the educator will be able to apply knowledge and skills to many different areas under the "umbrella" of injury prevention and control. The manual focuses on all-risk education. This manual is intended to assist in preparing for certification to the Fire and Life Safety Educator I, II, and III and Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Specialist I and II levels of NFPAr 1035 Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire and Life Safety Educator, 2010 edition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed to teach communities how to develop an effective juvenile firesetter intervention program. The cornerstone of the blueprint is understanding the personality profiles of juvenile firesetters (JF) and their families. The next step is identifying at-risk youth and assessing the likelihood that they will become involved in future firesetting incidents. The identification of the 3 levels of firesetting risk -- little, definite, and extreme -- leads to specific types of intervention, including evaluation, education, referral and follow-up. But the program must be part of a community network, which consists of a continuum of care designed to provide a range of intervention services to JF and their families. Ill.

Download or read book FEMA U S Fire Administration Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Handbook Firestarters Arson Control and Prevention Youth at Risk Interviews and Surveys Program Development and Implementation written by United States Fire Administration (USFA) and published by . This book was released on 2018-01-13 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Handbook is designed to teach communities how to develop an effective juvenile firesetter intervention program. The six chapters of this Handbook can be viewed as the six building blocks essential to construct a successful program. The cornerstone of the blueprint is understanding the personality profiles of juvenile firesetters and their families. The next step is identifying at-risk youth and assessing the likelihood that they will become involved in future firesetting incidents. The identification of the three levels of firesetting risk--little, definite, and extreme--leads to specific types of intervention, including evaluation, education, referral and follow-up. These are the critical components of a juvenile firesetter program. To provide a complete complement of services to juvenile firesetters and their families, the juvenile firesetter program must be part of a community network.Target audiences for this Handbook are diverse. Because the fire service operates the majority of juvenile firesetter programs, these chapters are designed specifically to meet its needs. Fire educators, fire prevention specialists, arson investigators, juvenile firesetter program managers, interviewers, educators, and team members all will find this information useful. In addition, because juvenile firesetter programs are part of a community network, many other professionals working in the human service arena will benefit from the Handbook. These professionals include law enforcement, mental health, school personnel, child protective services, social services, and juvenile justice. A planned and coordinated effort on the part of the fire service and human service organizations is the best way to reduce juvenile involvement in firesetting and arson and to protect and preserve lives and property in our communities.CHAPTER 1 * JUVENILE FIRESETTERS AND THEIR FAMILIES * A. Book excerpt: The study assessed the psychometric properties of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) questionnaires (Family Fire Risk Interview Form, Juvenile Fire Risk Interview Form, Parent Fire Risk Interview Form) used to record juvenile firesetting events. It also attempted to identify characteristics of firesetters, determine a basis for the variation in the severity of fires set, and determine the chance of recidivism. Specific types of firesetters exhibit a range of different characteristics. Maturational and environmental factors are implicated. Recommends that future examinations of this subject should include an examination of the firesetter's history, including cognitive and behavioural reviews, and parent and family influences and stressors.

Thomas Dryer, editor of the Oregonian newspaper, decided that it was in the best interest of the city to establish a firefighting force, and with that, he founded the Pioneer Fire Engine Company No. 1. Little better than a bucket brigade, this volunteer force of 37 men wearing red shirts started operations with just a single hand pump. From these humble beginnings, the organization grew to keep pace with a burgeoning city. From the great fire of 1873 and the colorful era of horse-drawn apparatus to technological innovations and community involvement, Portland Fire & Rescueas the department is now knownhas valiantly protected lives and property in Portland for more than a century and a half.
