Book excerpt: Study Resources for Congregations and Parishes. With a view to encouraging as many persons as possible to reflect on the meaning of the doctrine of justification both at the time of the Reformation and in contemporary society, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) prepared this booklet on justification by faith through grace. The booklet contains a series of bible studies for use in congregations and parishes and includes the full text of the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification. It will be of interest not only to Lutherans and Roman Catholics, but also to members of all churches committed to the search for Christian unity. The booklet contains six sessions or workshops, each concluding with a selection of articles from the Joint Declaration. In four of the sessions, reflection is assisted by means of a bible study on related biblical passages.

It is hoped that the Joint Declaration will deepen understanding of the biblical message of justification and also serve to further reflection within the wider ecumenical movement.

Persuaded that the "doctrine" of justification is also "gospel" -- the good news of life in Christ -- the contributors to "The Gospel of Justification in Christ" engage broadly with this crucial doctrine, addressing such topics as the unity of the Church, justification's relation to social justice, and its significance for interfaith dialogue.

Book The Doctrine of Justification by Faith

Download or read book The Doctrine of Justification by Faith written by John Owen and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Owen presents one of the most rigorous defenses of the Reformed doctrine of justification ever written. This reprint of The Doctrine of Justification by Faith, taken from the 19th century edition produced by the Presbyterian Board of Publications, will serve as a welcome improvement for many readers. Latin and Greek quotations have been moved to footnotes, and English translations are given for those large blocks of material that Owen left untranslated. It also contains a new introductory essay by Carl Trueman, which analyzes Owen's treatment of justification in light of the highly charged debates of his day. While Owen's work is technical and challenging, this edition is an effort to make his profound exposition more manageable.
