Book Just So Me Stories

Download or read book Just So Me Stories written by Matt Greenfield and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-08-26 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just So-me Stories flirts with the hyphen in between "non" and "fiction" in chronicling the darkest moments of Matt Greenfield's young life. "The Edge Behind Me" investigates a Memorial Day weekend/breakdown in the life of an alienated young teacher and would-be rock star known only as "Mr. B" as he interacts with students, parents, the vapid bar/concert scene, and an imaginary interviewer, all while trying to dodge the mystical musical inspiration he carries inside of him. "Drug-Induced Wanderings, Hooped Up on Them Goofballs" is the brief unexpurgated account of Greenfield's subconscious as his conscious self struggles with the side effects of a narcotic cough syrup one Thanksgiving weekend. And "And Found" is the true-but-much-elaborated story of Greenfield's peripatetic cross-country odyssey during his first full summer as a teacher. While the students are away, the teachers will play in these three witty, insightful, and completely un/true explorations of the solipsistic human spirit.

When Ruby has something special, she likes to say "just for me!" That includes everything from her dolly to the colorful candy sprinkles she uses to decorate her cookies. But when a friend comes over for playtime, Ruby takes her mantra just one step too far, and a precious toy is broken. Just when it looks like playtime has been ruined, Ruby realizes that having a friend is much more fun than having everything to herself. Book Just Some Stupid Love Story

Download or read book Just Some Stupid Love Story written by Katelyn Doyle and published by Flatiron Books. This book was released on 2024-06-04 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring bright purple sprayed edges! For fans of Emily Henry, a debut about a rom-com screenwriter who doesn't believe in love and a divorce attorney who does, forced together at their high school reunion fifteen years after their breakup Molly Marks writes Hollywood rom-coms for a living—which is how she knows “romance” is a racket. The one and only time she was naive enough to fall in love was with her high school boyfriend, Seth—who she ghosted on the eve of graduation and hasn’t seen in fifteen years. Seth Rubinstein believes in love, the grand, fated kind, despite his job as, well...one of Chicago’s most successful divorce attorneys. Over the last decade, he’s sought “the one” in countless bad dates and rushed relationships. He knows his soulmate is out there. But so far, no one can compare to Molly Marks, the first girl who broke his heart. When Molly’s friends drag her to Florida for their fifteenth high school reunion, it is poetic justice that she’s forced to sit with Seth. Too many martinis and a drunken hookup later, they decide to make a bet: whoever can predict the fate of five couples before the next reunion must declare that the other is right about true love. The catch? The fifth couple is the two of them. Molly assures Seth they are a tale of timeless heartbreak. Seth promises she’ll end up hopelessly in love with him. She thinks he’s delusional. He has five years to prove her wrong. Wickedly funny, sexy, and brimming with laughs and heart like the best romantic comedies, Just Some Stupid Love Story is for everyone who believes in soulmates—even if they would never admit it.

Book Reading Picture Books with Children

Download or read book Reading Picture Books with Children written by Megan Dowd Lambert and published by Charlesbridge Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-03 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new, interactive approach to storytime, The Whole Book Approach was developed in conjunction with the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art and expert author Megan Dowd Lambert's graduate work in children's literature at Simmons College, offering a practical guide for reshaping storytime and getting kids to think with their eyes. Traditional storytime often offers a passive experience for kids, but the Whole Book approach asks the youngest of readers to ponder all aspects of a picture book and to use their critical thinking skills. Using classic examples, Megan asks kids to think about why the trim size of Ludwig Bemelman's Madeline is so generous, or why the typeset in David Wiesner's Caldecott winner,The Three Pigs, appears to twist around the page, or why books like Chris Van Allsburg's The Polar Express and Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar are printed landscape instead of portrait. The dynamic discussions that result from this shared reading style range from the profound to the hilarious and will inspire adults to make children's responses to text, art, and design an essential part of storytime.

In “Chumley,” a high school boy’s comical eccentricities mask his true, more complicated self. Fourteen-year-old Albert’s sudden sense of shame at the grandfather he adores leads to a surprising realization in “Beer Can Man.” In “The Staircase,” the aftermath of a horrible incident exposes an ugly reality at the heart of a high school. In “Window Tree,” a girl grapples with her shattered expectations over a crush she felt certain was requited. Bell’s protagonists are individuals and outsiders, often on the margin of their peers or their family. Finding their own place in the world takes them on journeys that are by turns funny, fantastical, and moving. It contains many stories by and about individuals who broadcast play-by-plays of major junior and provincial junior A games from arenas across Canada. There are even a few chapters about broadcasters from teams in the United States that play in Canadian leagues. There are major junior chapters from the Western Hockey League (WHL), the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Chapters from provincial junior A leagues include British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and the Maritimes. Some of the contributors for this book wrote their own chapters. Others preferred to be interviewed. In all cases, the final version of each chapter was approved by the contributor. The chapters include many descriptions of broadcasters experiences. They describe their early experiences with hockey. Some played, while others listened on the radio, watched on TV, or attended games. The stories include how they became involved as play-by-play broadcasters and who were direct or indirect mentors. Each broadcaster recounts their memories of the first game they called. They also describe some of the notable players, coaches, and color commentators. Where possible, there are even some bus stories. Each chapter concludes with a comment about what the experience of broadcasting play-by-play has meant to each individual.

His role in transforming Harley-Davidson Motor Company—one of the most celebrated corporate success stories in history—led business leaders all over the world to seek his guidance. After all, how many companies can get their customers to tattoo their logo on their arms? After having worked with more than one thousand companies worldwide, Schmidt is ready to share the secrets that spurred Harley-Davidson’s remarkable turnaround. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Schmidt harnessed his passion for riding to create his famed Noise Cubed Trilogy—the three questions he asks every one of his clients. They assess a company’s positioning, competitiveness, and reputation, and are the key ingredients for any successful corporation: What do the customers your business served yesterday say about your business when they’re talking about you to prospective customers? What do you want them to say? What are you doing to get them to say it? In Make Some Noise, Schmidt shares his full-throttle approach for businesses and individuals alike. Anyone looking to become more competitive and grow customer loyalty can learn from the case studies and experiences he shares. From a nondescript heavy construction company, to the most high-end “luxury” gas station in America, to Apple, and to his own personal landscaper, Schmidt illustrates how the answers to his trio of questions will yield a course of action to stand out in today’s marketplace.
