Book excerpt: This is the story of Mareia Dondi. This story begins in the late thirties. Mareias was raised by her grandfather and grandmother. Her grandfather was a gangster and a murderer; he killed many men. He made a fortune during the Second World War. Mareia witnessed some of these deaths, as you will find out when you read this book. I started writing when I was forty-four years old. I have never wrote anything before. At the time, I didn't have a typewriter. I wrote everything with a pencil and paper. I worked on this book off and on for forty years. I had very little education. What I learned about writing, I learned by reading stories to find out where periods and commas were. I taught myself how to read with an old worn-out dictionary. When computers came out, I saw that a person could write, and if they made an error, they could erase it and start all over. So I bought one and typed out my story. This is my first book I wrote, and now I have eight books and a book of country boy poetry. Its guaranteed to make you laugh or cry. So I hope you enjoy my story. Thank you, and may God bless you.

Yet, you will love him and hate him for one simple reason. You see him inside of you. These are his memoirs from his senior year in high school all the way until his ten-year class reunion. Never will you find a boring moment inside of One More Beer and I Gotta Go from the high school running back that wants to be a magician to the bachelor party from hell where the groom's father does a keg stand to eating cold Chef Boyardee at a tavern in the middle of nowhere. These are laugh aloud anecdotes, but in between those insane stories of his youth come nuggets of truth showing what is real from his best friend to his love life. Simply think Dazed and Confused meets American Pie meets Breakfast at Tiffany's meets Scooby-Doo meets Romeo and Juliet.

Book I Promise Not To Suffer

Download or read book I Promise Not To Suffer written by Gail Storey and published by Mountaineers Books. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Witty, wise, and full of heart, Gail Storey’s winning memoir of her hike on the Pacific Crest Trail at the age of fifty-six is a book for every one who ever dreamed of taking the road less traveled. I Promise Not to Suffer is as inspiring as it is hilarious, as poignant as it is smart. It’s one of those oh-please-don’t-let-it-end books. I’d carry it in my backpack anywhere.”—Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild CLICK HERE to download the first 50 pages from I Promise Not To Suffer (Provide us with a little information and we'll send your download directly to your inbox) With comfortable urban lives in Houston, Texas, and career and life goals mostly accomplished, Gail D. Storey and her husband were in their fifties when they decided it was time to test themselves on a new path—a 2,663-mile path known as the Pacific Crest Trail, which stretches from Mexico to Canada. I Promise Not to Suffer is Gail's light-hearted yet heart-felt memoir about her and her husband's adventures and misadventures, deepening marriage, and reflections on being irrevocably changed by life on the trail. She was a novice hiker, while he was an experienced outdoorsman. Removed from their usual routines and living outside in the wilderness for months exposed hidden intricacies in their relationship. Hiking 20 miles a day over mountains, thirsting in the high desert of California, forcing frozen feet into icy socks and boots each morning in the High Sierra, stumbling through lava fields in Oregon—Gail was required to meet the elements on their own tough-love terms. From an encounter with a mountain lion to her mother's battle with cancer at home, she confronts each challenge with wit and brave style. While a dangerous loss of weight forces Gail to leave the PCT after 900 miles, she regains strength and later rejoins her husband on sections until he triumphantly reaches the northern terminus in Canada. Humorous yet honest, this journey of harrowing hilarity and reluctant revelations will be loved by active hikers (appendices include details of their unique ultralight gear and other essential how-to information), fans of female adventure stories, and armchair travelers alike. Want to know more about author Gail Storey? Head to her website today. Praise for I Promise Not To Suffer: “At times wrenching memoir, at times hilarious, I Promise Not to Suffer pulls no punches and has a wicked sense of fun. Storey reminds me again of what is possible with a big imagination, a dose of scrappy courage, and a lot of love.” --Peter Heller, author of The Dog Stars and Kook “Some have called Gail Storey the Nora Ephron of the wilderness. With her own unique wit, Storey shares Ephron’s commitment to creating and tending a long, nourishing marriage. I Promise Not to Suffer is a portrait of a union that does not fray or break under pressure but is forged, toughened, and tenderized.” --Sara Davidson, author of Leap!, Loose Change, and The December Project “Of the many books that I have read about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, none have captured the trail experience from so many different perspectives.Single hikers, couples, and those who stay behind will all enjoy Gail Storey’s account of the challenges, the beauty, and the PCT community found along the way.” --Liz Bergeron, Executive Director and CEO, Pacific Crest Trail Association Winner of the Nautilus Awards 2014 "Better Books for a Better World" Silver Award! Winner of the Colorado Books Awards 2014 in the Memoir category!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An “immensely interesting” account of how Theodore, Franklin, and Eleanor led the United States through some of its most turbulent decades (David McCullough). The Three Roosevelts is the extraordinary political biography of the intertwining lives of Theodore, Franklin, and Eleanor Roosevelt, who emerged from the closed society of New York’s Knickerbocker elite to become the most prominent American political family of the twentieth century. As Pulitzer Prize– and National Book Award–winning author James MacGregor Burns and acclaimed historian Susan Dunn follow the evolution of the Roosevelt political philosophy, they illuminate how Theodore’s example of dynamic leadership would later inspire the careers of his distant cousin Franklin and his niece Eleanor, who together forged a progressive political legacy that reverberated throughout the world. Theodore, Franklin, and Eleanor Roosevelt led America through some of the most turbulent times in its history. The Three Roosevelts takes readers on an exhilarating voyage through these tumultuous decades of our nation’s past, and these momentous events are seen through the Roosevelts’ eyes, their actions, and their passions. Insightful and authoritative, this is a fascinating portrait of three of America’s greatest leaders, whose legacy is as controversial today as their vigorous brand of forward-looking politics was in their own lifetimes. “A remarkable example of narrative and biographical history at its best.” —Pittsburgh Post-Gazette “A detailed study . . . Written with impeccable scholarship.” —Houston Chronicle “Show[s] how TR set FDR off on reform, and how Eleanor pushed Franklin, and how FDR used Eleanor as his legs . . . and as his conscience.” —The Boston Globe

Book All In The Line Of Duty

  • ISBN : 1785890867
  • Pages : 336 pages

Download or read book All In The Line Of Duty written by Amy Hudson and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2016-01-07 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a hot, sun scorched English valley, a young male is found dead. A few days later in Austria, another young male is found dead. Is there a connection between the two and if so, what is it? DCI Mark Morgan from Hipton, England, together with Chief Inspector Zweig, from Mayrhofen, Austria, try to solve what might be a double murder. But there seems to be precious little to go on and progress in the case is agonisingly slow until a letter is discovered in an attic of a house in the small Austrian village of Schwendau. Could this letter hold a clue about the deaths of the two young men? What seems to be a simple communication is far from that. It is a voice from the past, a letter which hints at a very dark time during the Second World War. There are references to Himmler and concentration camps, but this letter was never posted, so is it just a distraction for Morgan and Zweig, or is it crucial evidence in their quest to track down the killer? Time moves on and still the case is beset by complications and unknowns until a third murder is committed, back on English soil. Can Mark Morgan connect this murder with the other two and if so, what are the implications? The case goes from being an intriguing puzzle to a complex series of problems which need to be solved in a race against time, in case the killer strikes again. On the home front, Mark Morgan has problems of his own. His relationships seem to be taking a nosedive out of all control. Shocking news about his father finally comes to light and his brother is off to Russia for who knows how long, sending the family into confusion. This novel can be enjoyed as a stand-alone story in its own right with a dramatic plot, full of complex twists and turns, or it can be read as a sequel to ‘The Quiet Deaths’ where the central characters are introduced; chiefly DCI Mark Morgan and his family and friends. As in the first book, there are plenty of back stories where the reader can find out what’s new in the lives of the central characters. There is a lot of humour in the novel for the reader to enjoy, despite the dark tone of much of the main plot. The novel will leave readers with a lot to think about, especially in the context of war, family, trust and loyalty and raises some thorny issues to grapple with.
