Book Just a Little Note

Download or read book Just a Little Note written by J. Tomas and published by JMS Books LLC. This book was released on 2012-03-18 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bryan Lovett and Jesse Carter met in freshman year. Bryan fell for Jesse immediately, and they became quick friends. They both land roles in an upcoming production ofThe Who's Tommy, where Bryan discovers fellow classmate Emily Harris has a crush on Jesse, too. When she confides to Bryan that Jesse was the first guy she ever kissed, Bryan feels certain he's been misreading the signals he thought he was getting from Jesse all along. Crushed, Bryan lets Emily talk him into helping her write a love note telling Jesse how she feels. Bryan pours his heart into the note, using his own feelings to describe hers. When Jesse sees Bryan and Emily together, he suspects romance might be blossoming between them ... and worries he's waited too long and has lost the chance to turn Bryan's friendship into something more. Then he finds the note from Emily, which only confuses him further. But when Jesse tells Bryan about the note, he's surprised to learn his friend knows about it already. Though it's signed by Emily, who really wrote the note? And, more importantly, did they mean what they said about Jesse?

Book excerpt: A brilliant mix of battle, romance, family struggles, and personal triumphs, New York gloriously captures the search for freedom and prosperity at the heart of America's history. A blockbuster masterpiece that combines breath-taking scope with narrative immediacy, this grand historical epic traces the history of New York through the lenses of several families: The Van Dycks, a wealthy Dutch trading family; the Masters, scions of an English merchant clan torn apart during the Revolution; the Hudsons, slaves who fight for their freedom over several generations; the Murphys, who escape the Famine in Ireland and land in the chaotic slum of Five Points; the Rewards, robber barons of the Gilded Age; the Florinos, an immigrant Italian clan who work building the great skyscrapers in the 1920s; and the Rabinowitzs, who flee anti-semitism in Europe and build a new life in Brooklyn. Over time, the lives of these families become intertwined through the most momentous events in the fabric of America: The founding of the colonies; the Revolution; the growth of New York as a major port and trading centre; the Civil War; the Gilded Age; the explosion of immigration and the corruption of Tammany Hall; the rise of New York as a great world city in the early 20th-century; the trials of World War II, the tumult of the 1960s; the near-demise of the city in the 1970s; its roaring rebirth in the 1990s; culminating in the World Trade Center attacks at the beginning of the new century.

Book My Life Planned and Unplanned

Download or read book My Life Planned and Unplanned written by W. G. Wedan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-01-31 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Life Planned and Unplanned is the book title, but it is the unplanned part of my life that I could not have imagined during my youth in Galesburg, Illinois. As the son of Swedish immigrants and from a large family, I couldnt envisage much of a future. They were the Depression years. Those families that had positions with the CB&Q or the Santa Fe railroads seemed not to be affected. Those in construction, especially of houses, were, and drastically! Construction had come to an abrupt halt. Home builders, like my father, had to be content with the occasional small repair jobs. The help of my older brother Lewis and my sisters Ellyn, Dodney, and Carole were a great aid to my parents. I sold magazines door-to-door and later had newspaper routes, along with my brother Carl. After finishing high school, together with a friend, I earned my tuition for a year of business college doing maintenance work of that school. After a year of working experience, I joined my two brothers in the military service in World War II. We had been attacked as a nation, and everyone seemed to accept the war and sacrifices to bring it to a successful conclusion.
