Book excerpt: A weird-as-hell gangster story set in a world where people drive giant mechanical dinosaurs instead of cars. Her name is Psycho June Howard, aka Armadillo Fists, a woman who replaced both of her hands with living armadillos. She was once the most bloodthirsty fighter in the world of illegal underground boxing. But now she is on the run from a group of psychotic gangsters who believe she's responsible for the death of their boss. With the help of a stegosaurus driver named Mr. Fast Awesome-who thinks he is God's gift to women even though he doesn't have any arms or legs-June must do whatever it takes to escape her pursuers, even if she has to kill each and every one of them in the process. Strange, engaging characters, breakneck pacing, and jam-packed with more brilliantly weird concepts than you'll know what to do with-this is bizarro cult author Carlton Mellick III at his best.

At last, comes the long-awaited sequel! The armadillo follows the less-traveled road: he picks cranberries, stops and smells the flowers, naps in the meadow, and at day’s end passes an overeager hippo sprinting in the other direction. Told with Boynton’s signature charm and unpredictability, But Not the Armadillo is a worthy companion to But Not the Hippopotamus. Behold the armadillo, with his armadillo nose. That nose can take him anywhere. He follows where it goes.

Book excerpt: Austin, Bo, Charley, and Danny are newborn armadillos who live in the Texas Hill Country under a spacious oak tree they share with Mr. Oliver, a great horned owl who helps their mother watch over them when they are not sleeping. But as Mr. Oliver and Mother Armadillo already know, keeping the four little boys safe from all the dangers in their environment is not an easy task. As the boys skin hardens into shells, they slowly begin to emerge from their den. With help from their mother who teaches them where to find delicious food like ants, termites, spiders, and worms, Austin, Bo, Charley, and Danny begin exploring the perilous world around them. While Mother Armadillo guides the boys to recognize their predators and survive each threat, her biggest fear is that they will become a hillbilly bump in the road. Now only time will tell if they can survive their frightening encounters and become the armadillos she has always dreamed they could be. Armadillo Antics is the charming and educational tale of four armadillos on a coming-of-age journey as they learn to find food, protect themselves from predators, and interact with others of their kind.

Book The Adventures of Armadillo Baby and Annabelli

Download or read book The Adventures of Armadillo Baby and Annabelli written by Robert Zamenhof and published by . This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Adventures of Armadillo Baby and Annabelli is a charming and whimsical collection of animal stories about the adventures of a pair of brother and sister armadillos. The dominant metaphor in these stories is a horribly powerful and very large protagonist named Raina Sparkle, chimera of dragon and bat, loving toward the armadillos, but frightfully intimidating and scary to any human or animal who dares to try and harm them! The armadillos are friends with some local animals, like Seflagori the camel and Noseberry the anteater, but learn the hard way that they must be wary of certain other animals, like Elvis and Montmorency the two Syrian crocodiles, Horatio the Hawk, and Rexi the leader of the angry water reeds. Certain humans should also be avoided, like Captain Shutemup and his communications officer Sparky Blaberon, both from The Happy Gun cruise ship. The armadillos love to eat. The menus for some of their meals are described in detail, with reasonable cultural accuracy, encouraging children not to be put off by unfamiliar foods. The armadillos also love to sleep and dream, and each story ends with the armadillos safely and happily asleep. But the armadillos seem to end up in hot water no matter what innocent activities they participate in, ultimately forcing them to call on the help of Raina Sparkle, their kind protector, who inevitably bails them out of their troubles. Although the armadillos are anthropomorphized, they nevertheless are imbued with amusing armadillian behavioral characteristics, such as walking on the bottoms of ponds, holding their breath underwater for more than six minutes, curling up into a protective ball when threatened, and jumping straight up when excited or startled. The Adventures of Armadillo Baby and Annabelli will definitely be loved by younger readers and may also bring smiles and chuckles to their adult companions.
