Download or read book Junkers Aircraft Engines 1913 to 1945 written by Anthony L. Kay and published by Holding. This book was released on 2004 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examining in detail the output of one of Germany's most famous aircraft manufacturers, Junkers. With 3-view drawings, cut-aways, fine photographs and unsurpassed in-depth treatment of the design history of Junkers aircraft, this volume is the definitive history of a German engineering legend. Hugo Junkers was a leading pioneer of aviation, especially all-metal aircraft construction, and his name is associated with great aerodynamic and structural advances in engineering. His design and manufacturing bureau was responsible for some of the most distinctive and famous aircraft of the 20th century, including the terrifying Ju87 Stuka divebomber and the Ju88 bomber which battered London in the Blitz, but successful airliners and transports were also part of the Junkers roster over the course of its 30-year history.
Download or read book The Junkers Ju 52 Story written by Jan Forsgren and published by Fonthill Media. This book was released on 2017-01-20 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The iconic and legendary Junkers Ju 52 first flew in 1930. Designed and built by the Junkers Aircraft Company of Dessau, Germany, the Ju 52 was originally intended as a single-engine cargo aircraft. An upgraded model, the Ju 52/3m, was powered by three engines and excelled as an eighteen-seat airliner. By the late 1930s, hundreds of the safe, reliable and much loved Ju 52/3ms were serving with airlines in more than twenty countries, including the pre-war British Airways. Also, it was used as a bomber by the Luftwaffe, particularly in the Spanish Civil War. During the Second World War, the Ju 52/3m was the mainstay of Luftwaffe transport squadrons. Affectionately known as 'Faithful Old Annie' and 'ron Annie', the Ju 52/3m was used during the invasions of Norway, the Low Countries, Crete and the resupply of Stalingrad and Rommels Africa Korps. In all, around 5,000 were built and after the war, production continued in France and Spain. Amazingly, captured Ju 52/3ms were rebuilt post-war and briefly operated as airliners on domestic routes in Great Britain.

Download or read book Junkers Ju 388 written by Christoph Vernaleken and published by Schiffer Pub Limited. This book was released on 2006 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Junkers Ju 388 was a high-altitude aircraft developed from the Ju 88. In its bomber and reconnaissance versions it would elude enemy fighters by flying high, while as a heavy fighter and night-fighter it was to intercept the Boeing B-29 and the feared DeHavilland Mosquito. In developing this last member of the Ju 88 family, the Junkers Flugzeug- und Motorenwerke was able to draw on a wealth of experience with high-altitude aircraft such as the Ju 49, EF 61 and Ju 86 P/R. The Luftwaffe had great plans for the Ju 388. In the summer of 1944 it was one of the five remaining aircraft types in Delivery Plan 226, along with the Me 262, Ar 234, Ta 152 and Do 335. These five types were to fill all roles. With the exception of the Ju 388, all of these aircraft have been dealt with extensively in aviation literature. This book closes a gap in the available literature, reconstructing for the first time from original documents the complete story of the Ju 388.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ju 87 Stuka was the most feared weapon in the German arsenal in the first year of World War 2, the Luftwaffe using it to deadly effect during the Blitzkrieg between September 1939 and June 1940. Although vulnerable to the enemy fighters due to its moderate speed in level flight and general lack of manoeuvrability, the Ju 87 nevertheless soon came to symbolise the might of Nazi Germany as the mere handful of Stukageschwader supporting the Wehrmacht rampaging out of the Fatherland took a heavy toll of the Allied forces. Illustrated throughout with contemporary photography and detailed aircraft profiles, John Weal's detailed history is ideal for modellers as well as general aircraft fans.

Download or read book Junkers JU 52 written by Morten Jessen and published by Greenhill Books. This book was released on 2006-02-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ju 52 was an essential part of the Luftwaffe and it proved itself a versatile and reliable aircraft in almost six years of conflict. The Ju 52 first saw service as a civil airliner in the 1930s but, on the outbreak of war in 1939, it found a demanding role as the Luftwaffe's primary transport aircraft, deployed in the transportation of supplies and personnel and, on occasion, flying paratroopers to their target destination or evacuating wounded from isolated pockets. In 1942, for example, JU 52s were heavily involved in dropping supplies to trapped Wehrmacht personnel in Stalingrad and, later, in attempts to fly out wounded soldiers. This important contribution to the Luftwaffe at War Series highlights the contribution made by the JU 52 and covers all the major types and variants of this rugged aircraft. Morten Jessen includes rare and unpublished photographs taken on nearly every front of the war and ably demonstrates why the Ju 52 was viewed with such affection by Luftwaffe personnel.

Book excerpt: Engineers have always had a huge influence on the way we live and how our world looks. They create lasting solutions to the biggest challenges, and construct iconic and incredible buildings that have literally stood the test of time. Engineers tells their story, from the men who built the Great Pyramid in Egypt to the pioneers of space travel. Often many different minds worked together or built on the work of previous generations to achieve a working version of a great idea: Engineers explores this progression of ideas, from initial concept to prototype and finished design. The great achievements of engineers go hand in hand with the world's greatest structures, such as aqueducts, monuments, bridges, and dams. These works are shown in detail and highlighted with beautiful illustrations, photographs, and technical drawings.

Download or read book A History of the Prussian Junkers written by Francis Ludwig Carsten and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surveys the rise of the Prussian nobility from medieval times and their role in politics. From the late 19th century on, the Prussian Junkers' conservatism became more nationalistic, "völkisch", and antisemitic. Influenced by the Agrarian League, which defended landowners' interests, the Conservative Party adopted an antisemitic platform in 1892. Describes the Junkers' opposition to the Weimar Republic and determination to maintain their supremacy in rural districts, opposing "Jewish influence". In 1920 the organization of nobles, the Deutsche Adelgenossenschaft, adopted the racist "Aryan paragraph". The Landbund, successor to the Agrarian League, was increasingly dominated by the Nazis. Junker influence on Hindenburg helped bring Hitler to power. Ch. 10 (p. 179-190) describes the Junkers' loss of political and social status after 1933; some rose to prominence in the SS or the army, usually without identifying with Nazi ideology. A small minority resisted, some of them influenced by reports on the massacre of Jews.

The project was considered top secret and evaded Allied intelligence for many months. This exciting new book is beautifully illustrated throughout with striking photographs, several of which are previously unpublished, and contains much new and revised information on the Ju 287. It is certain to become the definitive account of this remarkable aircraft.

Download or read book Ju 52 3m Bomber and Transport Units 1936 41 written by Robert Forsyth and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The all-metal Junkers Ju 52/3m enjoyed a solid – indeed, revered – reputation amongst its crews and the troops and paratroopers who used and depended on it. For more than ten years, it saw service as a successful military transport, with its distinctive, three-engined design and corrugated metal construction becoming instantly recognisable. It was a mainstay in the Luftwaffe's inventory, first seeing service in the 1930s in bombing and transport operations in the Spanish Civil War, and subsequently during the German invasion of Poland. It then served on every front on which the Luftwaffe was deployed until May 1945. The Junkers served as a stalwart transport, confronting both freezing temperatures and ice, and heat and dust, lifting men, animals, food and supplies vital for German military operations. This, the first of two books on the Ju 52/3m, details its service as a bomber in Spain and in South America, followed by its pivotal role in early war operations during the invasions of Poland and France, the airborne invasion of Crete and the early stages of Operation Barbarossa.
