Book Journey Into Faith and Fidelity

Download or read book Journey Into Faith and Fidelity written by Nadine Foley and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1999-10-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of related stories by members of the Adrian Dominican congregation that reflects the creative movement that has taken place in religious life as women have responded to the inspiration of Vatican Council II as well as to the impact of contemporary culture. While the impetus to renewal came directly from the Church authority, adaptation and change far exceeded what was originally envisioned by those who authorized the process, particularly when the institutes responded to the directive to "consult all the members".The contributors to this book trace the most critical influences that moved religious congregations toward a renewed religious life. They embraced a God who does not remain static but who moves in human history, a loving God who relates to us in care and compassion, a Holy Spirit who dwells within and inspires through discernment the decisions and directions that are to be taken, a sense of personal worth and empowerment as women baptized into gospel mission and ministry, a response to Church teaching that action on behalf of justice is constitutive of Gospel mission. In renewing their religious life, women have an important experience to offer the Church for ongoing renewal in the future, as reflection upon these essays and continuing dialogue will reveal.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we think about the lives of the saints, we can easily forget that they were people just like us--with all the same struggles, temptations, joys, and sorrows we experience in life. They were not born saints; they became saints. And in the course of their journeys through life, other people helped them become the people that God wanted them to be. A Sheltering Tree offers stories of faith, fidelity, and friendship from both Christian and non-Christian writers that explore the importance of friendship to psychological and spiritual development. These stories show how friends became "special graces," special gifts given to us by the Lord to help us grow in holiness. Contemporary stories of "ordinary people" illustrate fifteen lessons about friendship in our own time to help us understand the "grace of friendship" in our lives. These stories are a source of encouragement and inspiration for each of us on our personal journeys, leading us closer to each other and to the Lord who has called each of us his friend.

As a sourcebook for pastoral ministry or a reference for personal or communal reflection, this volume will assist believers who desire to engage more deeply with the Word. Verna Holyhead, SGS, is an Australian Sister of the Good Samaritan of the Order of St. Benedict. She leads retreats, lectures, and writes, all with an emphasis on biblical scholarship, liturgical insight, and pastoral challenge.

Book When Obeying God Makes You Look Stupid

Download or read book When Obeying God Makes You Look Stupid written by Shavon Sellers and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-28 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There will be times in our lives that God will say, "When You Move, I Will Move", and at the time of the move we will not always know the complete plan. Not only will you not know the complete plan, but it may require you to make some major sacrifices, leaving behind some people, places, opportunities or things that are very dear to you and stepping out on Faith like never before. Walking in TOTAL OBEDIENCE will not always make sense to the natural eye, but to completely fulfill the purpose that God has for your life, you will have to totally trust God and move as He requires even when you don't know what's next. You may have to walk away from relationships that you have had for decades. You may be at the pinnacle of your career and have to leave it all behind. You may have to make major life decisions for your family that affect everyone in your household. And after the sacrifice, the next move may look just as bizarre as the sacrifice, people will think you have lost all of your marbles! This is the story of Shavon Sellers' life! As a voice to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ all across the world, as a Mother, as a Pastor, as an Entrepreneur; Shavon Sellers knows all to well that 'When Obeying God Makes You Look Stupid' you still must OBEY. God will never require you to leave anything and not replace it with or restore it to GREATER!

Book Our One Great Act of Fidelity

Download or read book Our One Great Act of Fidelity written by Ronald Rolheiser and published by Image. This book was released on 2011-06-14 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of the bestselling, The Holy Longing, comes a book about the central expression of faith for hundreds of millions of Christians, the Eucharist. More so than anything else, the Eucharist is what anchors many peoples' life, prayer, and ultimately the way they live their lives. In this deeply personal book, Father Ronald Rolheiser delves into the history and meaning of this sacred tradition, drawing upon the insights of various scripture scholars, theologians, and church teachings. With personal warmth and great insight, he reflects on his own particular Roman Catholic upbringing and the centrality that the Eucharist has within that tradition. At the same time, he looks at other denominations’ traditions around the Eucharist. Our One Great Act of Fidelity is an investigation into the ways people secure their faith and belief and discover true intimacy with God and each other. Ultimately, however, it is a spiritual and a personal statement of how Ronald Rolheiser understands the Eucharist and why he celebrates it every day. Ronald Rolheiser is a specialist in the field of spirituality and is currently President of the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas. Father Rolheiser is the author of The Holy Longing, The Restless Heart, Forgotten Among the Lilies, The Shattered Lantern, and Against an Infinite Horizon. He writes a weekly column that appears in more than 90 Catholic publications. More information on his work can be found at RonRolheiser.com.

Book Cosmic Chastity in an Age of Technocratic Lust A Song of Three Popes

Download or read book Cosmic Chastity in an Age of Technocratic Lust A Song of Three Popes written by Jeremiah Barker and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-04-12 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book arises from the conviction that the ways in which John Paul II and Benedict XVI were confused as allies with American conservativism is as misleading, unclear, and confusing as any misapprehension of Francis's genuine orthodoxy. As the author does not have a stake in reacting against a liberal Catholicism that he sees dying out anyway, the bigger threat, in his view, sociologically, for the North American church, is falling into a right-wing tribalism--and Francis resists precisely that. First Things editor R. R. Reno, highly critical of Francis, has called for a redemption of hints and suggestions of a cogent argument in the Francis message. Jeremiah Barker reappropriates Reno's call as a call to draw out or highlight what he takes to be the underlying rationale of the Francis message. That underlying rationale, he compellingly argues, is strikingly identical to that of the two previous popes. Barker, who has learned much from Reno, is in fact inspired by Francis's call and teaching, and it is the aim of this book to draw out what inspires him and to identify what he hopes Reno and fellow 'John Paul II Catholics' don't miss in the Francis message: the theological, ethical, and spiritual core of his social teaching, which Francis shares with that of John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

Book Beyond Justification

    Book Details:
  • Author : Douglas A. Campbell
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2024-01-03
  • ISBN : 1532679009

Download or read book Beyond Justification written by Douglas A. Campbell and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-01-03 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul proclaims in 90 percent of what he wrote that we have been set free, resurrected, and transformed through Christ at the behest of a loving God. This gospel proclamation can be found wherever he speaks of being "in Christ." But this gospel and its account of salvation has been captured by "another gospel," which also lays claim to being Paul's account of salvation. And this gospel is retributive, conditional, and ultimately damaging. "Justification Theory," as we call this false account, lays claim to just under 10 percent of what Paul wrote. The presence of both these gospels within Paul's interpretation causes numerous acute problems. He is, to name just a few, fundamentally confused, frequently harsh, and unavoidably anti-Jewish. If we reread Paul's justification texts, however, paying more attention to the original historical circumstances within which they were composed, then they turn out to say something subtly but significantly different. Paul's justification texts can be interpreted carefully, faithfully, and consistently, in terms of his usual gospel--our transformation in Christ. Thus Justification Theory is never activated. Paul's true gospel is thereby liberated from its long captivity to a false alternative. We can now see a kinder, gentler, and more consistent, apostle.
