Custom-Specific Integrated Circuits thoroughly considers the various methods available to reduce the design time of a microelectronic circuit to fit a specialized requirement! This important work explores the principles of both bipolar and MOS technologies, and provides in-depth coverage of the many avenues which enable system designers to incorporate specific needs into an integrated-circuit form. Comprehensive and up-to-date, this reference compares and contrasts all the techniques of custom an semicustom design and fabrication, including programmable arrays, masterslice arrays, cell libraries, and full custom ... examines the principles of placement and routing of regular structures ... presents convenient chapter summaries for quick review of essential material ... and offers physics fundamentals for basic understanding while concentrating on practical system design. Ideal for both the practicing engineer and graduate-level engineering student, this outstanding book gives electrical, electronic, design, computer, mechanical, and control engineers, as well as electrical, electronic, and computer science engineering students, the contemporary, "hands-on" coverage needed to master Custom-Specific Integrated Circuits. Book Integrated Circuits

Download or read book Integrated Circuits written by Peter Shepherd and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1996-11-11 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated circuits have revolutionised the world of electronics and the associated areas of computing and communication. In past years the tasks of designing, manufacturing and testing these types of circuit were restricted to a few specialist engineers. However, within recent years the proliferation of computer tools and affordable access to IC manufacturing foundries has resulted in a substantial increase in the number of people designing ICs for the first time, both in universities and colleges and in industry. This book introduces the reader to all aspects of IC design, manufacture and testing with a minimum of mathematics, but with relevant examples at each stage. It examines the overall design strategies, the engineering trade-offs and the advantages, disadvantages and optimum applications of each available technology.

Book Wafer Level Integrated Systems

Download or read book Wafer Level Integrated Systems written by Stuart K. Tewksbury and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the perspective of complex systems, conventional Ie's can be regarded as "discrete" devices interconnected according to system design objectives imposed at the circuit board level and higher levels in the system implementation hierarchy. However, silicon monolithic circuits have progressed to such complex functions that a transition from a philosophy of integrated circuits (Ie's) to one of integrated sys tems is necessary. Wafer-scale integration has played an important role over the past few years in highlighting the system level issues which will most significantly impact the implementation of complex monolithic systems and system components. Rather than being a revolutionary approach, wafer-scale integration will evolve naturally from VLSI as defect avoidance, fault tolerance and testing are introduced into VLSI circuits. Successful introduction of defect avoidance, for example, relaxes limits imposed by yield and cost on Ie dimensions, allowing the monolithic circuit's area to be chosen according to the natural partitioning of a system into individual functions rather than imposing area limits due to defect densities. The term "wafer level" is perhaps more appropriate than "wafer-scale". A "wafer-level" monolithic system component may have dimensions ranging from conventional yield-limited Ie dimensions to full wafer dimensions. In this sense, "wafer-scale" merely represents the obvious upper practical limit imposed by wafer sizes on the area of monolithic circuits. The transition to monolithic, wafer-level integrated systems will require a mapping of the full range of system design issues onto the design of monolithic circuit.

Book Semi custom IC Design and VLSI

Download or read book Semi custom IC Design and VLSI written by Peter J. Hicks and published by Institution of Engineering & Technology. This book was released on 1983 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to silicon IC technology including descriptions of the various processing techniques employed in the manufacture of microelectronic components. A heavy emphasis is placed on the design of semi-custom IC's and consideration is also given to the ways in which custom VLSI circuits will be designed in future.

Book VLSI Integrated Systems on Silicon

Download or read book VLSI Integrated Systems on Silicon written by Ricardo A. Reis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the papers that have been presented at the ninth Very Large Scale Integrated Systems conference VLSI'97 that is organized biannually by IFIP Working Group 10.5. It took place at Hotel Serra Azul, in Gramado Brazil from 26-30 August 1997. Previous conferences have taken place in Edinburgh, Trondheim, Vancouver, Munich, Grenoble and Tokyo. The papers in this book report on all aspects of importance to the design of the current and future integrated systems. The current trend towards the realization of versatile Systems-on-a-Chip require attention of embedded hardware/software systems, dedicated ASIC hardware, sensors and actuators, mixed analog/digital design, video and image processing, low power battery operation and wireless communication. The papers as presented in Jhis book have been organized in two tracks, where one is dealing with VLSI System Design and Applications and the other presents VLSI Design Methods and CAD. The following topics are addressed: VLSI System Design and Applications Track • VLSI for Video and Image Processing. • Microsystem and Mixed-mode design. • Communication And Memory System Design • Cow-voltage & Low-power Analog Circuits. • High Speed Circuit Techniques • Application Specific DSP Architectures. VLSI Design Methods and CAD Track • Specification and Simulation at System Level. • Synthesis and Technology Mapping. • CAD Techniques for Low-Power Design. • Physical Design Issues in Sub-micron Technologies. • Architectural Design and Synthesis. • Testing in Complex Mixed Analog and Digital Systems.

This book was released on 1995-09-14 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major benefits to system architecture would result if cooling systems for components could be eliminated without compromising performance. This book surveys the state-of-the-art for the three major wide bandgap materials (silicon carbide, nitrides, and diamond), assesses the national and international efforts to develop these materials, identifies the technical barriers to their development and manufacture, determines the criteria for successfully packaging and integrating these devices into existing systems, and recommends future research priorities.
