Book International and Cross Cultural Management Research

Download or read book International and Cross Cultural Management Research written by Jean-Claude Usunier and published by SAGE. This book was released on 1998-09-18 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written for students and others wishing to do international and cross-cultural research in business and management, this book provides an accessible introduction to the major principles and practices. A cross-cultural perspective has become vital to most contemporary management research. The increasingly global business environment has led to both a greater practical need for international management research and a questioning of whether management science follows universal rules. This book addresses the particular characteristics of international management research, including the important role of culture. A key introduction provides a comprehensive overview of the background, major issues and different approaches to international management research. The second chapter offers a typology of research designs in international management, and shows the role culture plays in such designs. The theories and paradigms that serve international and cross-cultural management research are examined in the third chapter. Chapter four examines and defines culture, its process and components. The final chapter pulls the describing arguments together to show how the construct of culture can be used in international management research. Throughout, the author provides numerous illustrative examples from key empirical studies.

Book Management Control Systems and Cross Cultural Research

Download or read book Management Control Systems and Cross Cultural Research written by Michael Hanzlick and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2015-01-31 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fundamental challenge that management faces in the twenty-first century is how to exercise adequate control, i. e. how to guide and direct the behaviour of their subordinates. With increasing globalisation firms witness a cross-cultural impact too. Of particular interest is the question of whether to use the standardized form of control similar to the home base of firms or whether to adapt their control practices to the local specificities. Given the meagre state of the literature in management control with a cross-cultural emphasis, this study addresses a real world problem, namely the question whether management control practices are configured similarly or differently across cultures. Relying on a generalized industry sample across four countries (Belgium, Canada, Germany and Poland), this study sought to shed light on one of the more intriguing questions – “does culture matter” – for specific control areas, in particular for performance measurement, performance evaluation and reward systems. The theoretical foundations are grounded in the cultural framework of the GLOBE project accompanied by thoughts of new institutionalism, stakeholder theory and contingency thoughts. Hypotheses are tested by mean comparisons (ANOVA, ANCOVA). The empirical findings highlight cultural differences for a broader set of control practices and deliver new insights into the intersection of culture and management control. This dissertation crafts a novel topic with high relevance for both researchers and practitioners. The study demonstrates areas for which management control practices should be adapted to the local needs and areas for which those practices could be harmonized in the whole company. This monograph stresses some areas in which future empirical cross-cultural research can benefit, and some areas where conceptual thoughts could be advanced.

Book Cultural Influences on IT Use

Download or read book Cultural Influences on IT Use written by N. Kambayashi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2002-09-22 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the role that national culture plays in shaping the emergent relationship between IT and organisations. It also shows the mechanisms through which national culture influences IT use. Although a number of studies have investigated relationships between IT and organisations, relatively few studies have conducted international comparisons on the theme, and even fewer have focused on national culture in their analytical framework. The book is based on extensive research undertaken with British and Japanese manufacturing companies, providing evidence that national culture does influence organisational IT use.

Core causes for decoupling and resilience of business models and ecosystems are jolts, known as global crisis, universal pandemics, etc. The undesirable outcomes of critical events can reveal unique circumstances for business model and ecosystem resilience. Business model and ecosystem resilience represents a mandatory prerequisite for firms challenging their functioning and even very existence. Research has been conducted thus far, nevertheless this theme requires significantly more consideration. The key objective of this book is to bring further insights in the field delivering a thorough examination of the ways in which business models and ecosystems can develop resilience under extraordinary conditions. In the book, the resilience of business models and ecosystems is analysed aiming to investigate further the specifics of the relevant processes securing resilience and its outcomes. The resilience of business models and ecosystems is scrutinised as a credible way for enhancing the predispositions of firm’s survivability. Book Cross Border Mergers and Acquisitions

Download or read book Cross Border Mergers and Acquisitions written by Moshfique Uddin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-30 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cross-border mergers and acquisitions (CBM&As) activity has become an important vehicle for firms’ internationalization and corporate restructuring over the past three decades. Despite the huge volume of global CBM&A activity, however, there are few books which carefully explore the strategies, motives, and consequences of global mergers and acquisitions. This book discusses and synthesizes the theoretical literature on the motivation and performance of international merger activities. Focusing on the UK as a top acquiring country in the European Union, the authors explore the recent trends in cross-border mergers and acquisitions, motives for cross-border mergers and acquisitions, the mergers integration process, home and host countries’ macroeconomic consequences on mergers and acquisitions, and shareholder’s wealth effects on CBM&A. This book explores and sheds much-needed light on the UK CBM&A market, what drives it, and what lessons can be learned for other regions around the globe.

Book Cross Cultural Management in Work Organisations

Download or read book Cross Cultural Management in Work Organisations written by Raymond French and published by Kogan Page Publishers. This book was released on 2015-02-17 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formerly rooted firmly in the domain of anthropology, the topic of culture has shifted over the last thirty-five years to become an important component of business and management as organisations have become global. As companies outsource some of their work to other countries, or as employees migrate to new locations, culture can impact upon things such as attitudes to authority, differences in communication styles and ethics, which will affect working relationships. Cross-Cultural Management in Work Organisations explores the models and meanings of culture and how these play out in the work environment. The essential introduction to cross-cultural social relations in the workplace, Cross-Cultural Management in Work Organisations provides an evaluation of existing frameworks for understanding cross-cultural differences, examines the inter-cultural competencies such as cultural awareness needed by managers and evaluates how both cultural and non-cultural factors influence social processes at work. This fully updated 3rd edition includes new examples to provide topical and engaging insight into the subject. It is suitable for all postgraduate students studying cross-cultural management or cross-cultural awareness. Online supporting resources include an instructor's manual, lecture slides and seminar activities for tutors and web links and self-assessment exercises for students.

Book China s Managerial Revolution

Download or read book China s Managerial Revolution written by Malcolm Warner and published by Taylor & Francis US. This book was released on 1999 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reform of Chinese management has been high on the PRC government's agenda. Since 1978, while China has been moving from a command economy to a socialist market economy, it has had to turn its economic cadres into managers as part of its "Four Modernizations" and "Open Door" reform policies. The contributors here examine in detail the "managerial revolution" now taking place in China. Special attention is given to ways in which the Dengist market-driven model has been introduced at macro- and then micro-enterprise level; the introduction of the "contract responsibility" system which has increased managers' autonomy in decision making; and the ways in which many of the old state "dinosaur" firms are being in effect "privatized", with enormous inplications for both managers and workers. The analysis centres on reform in the areas of HRM, joint-venture creation, managerial motivation, managing corporate networks and organizational learning.
