Book Do You Hear What I Hear

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anthony Monzo

  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book Do You Hear What I Hear written by Anthony Monzo and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-03-07 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God speaks to us in many different ways. The Bible, of course, is His primary source; but if you focus on what you are seeing and hearing in the world around you, you can find spiritual messages in so many different sources, as God uses us as vessels to convey His message of salvation to the world. This includes through the visions of creation, the fragrances of nature, the sounds of the singing birds, the thunder of the clouds, the roars of the oceans, the amazing sunsets, the glorious sunrises, and even in the quiet and dark star-filled nights. As Paul wrote in Romans 1:20 (NIV), "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." He also speaks to us through music and film, in ways that we don't realize unless we are really paying attention. This book presents a taste of how popular music and movies, and even art as displayed on the cover, can convey a message of hope and love to all those who have ears to hear and eyes to see what God is trying to tell them. Some of the interpretations are based on what I perceive these songs or movies to be about, which may not necessarily be what the writer intended. Yet if you open up your heart, you can find a message of love and hope in so many songs and movies, and this message is what the gospel is all about. Jesus gave a new commandment when he said in John 13:34 (NLT), "Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other." And the hope that we have is the confident anticipation of spending eternity with the Lord in His eternal kingdom, and not just wishful thinking which is nothing but a worldly hope.

Book Behind the Grand Ole Opry Curtain

Download or read book Behind the Grand Ole Opry Curtain written by Grand Ole Opry and published by Center Street. This book was released on 2008-10-08 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Grand Ole Opry has been home to the greatest legends of country music for over eighty years, and in that time it has seen some of conutry music's most dramatic stories unfold. We'll hear of the great love stories ranging from Johnny Cash and June Carter in the 1960s to Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, who married in 2005. We'll get the truth of the tragedies that led to the loss of three stars all in the same month, starting the rumor of the "Opry Curse." We'll learn how after being stabbed, shot, and maimed, Trace Adkins calls his early honky-tonk years "combat country," and we'll find inspiration from DeFord Bailey, an African American harmonica player in 1927 crippled by childhood polio who rose to fame as one of the first Opry stars. Our hearts will break for Willie Nelson, who lost his only son on Christmas Day, and soar for Amy Grant and Vince Gill, who found true love. Based on over 150 firsthand interviews with the stars of The Grand Ole Opry, these are stories that tell the heart of country--the lives that are lived and inspire the songs we love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Power of a Simple Song "If I had to pick my favorite Overstreet song, it would have to be 'Forever and Ever, Amen' ... Over the years, I've recorded quite a few Paul Overstreet songs. I consider myself very fortunate each time I stand before and audience and sing his songs. More often than any other time, I see the powerful effect his words have on people." From the Foreword by Randy Travis Seldom has an American Country musician changed the face and tenor of the modern-day genre with as much impact as has Paul Overstreet the humble songwriter who chose to stop writing songs about misery and start writing songs that affirm family, the joys of marriage, staying faithful and finding happiness, and honoring your parents. These songs have gone on to become huge hits for Country artists such as Randy Travis, Tanya Tucker, Paul Davis, and the Judds. In his own words and with the voluble agreement of his hundreds of fans, who wrote e-mails to his website Paul tells how he was inspired to write such hits as "I Fell in Love Again Last Night," "Same Ole Me," "Forever and Ever, Amen," "Heroes," "On the Other Hand," "Sowin' Love," "Til the Mountains Disappear," "When You Say Nothing at All," and so many others. Forever and Ever, Amen is a celebration of life once lost, now found and a man who has written songs that have touched so many others in their everyday lives.

Book Bowling Alone Revised and Updated

Download or read book Bowling Alone Revised and Updated written by Robert D. Putnam and published by Simon & Schuster. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Updated to include a new chapter about the influence of social media and the Internet—the 20th anniversary edition of Bowling Alone remains a seminal work of social analysis, and its examination of what happened to our sense of community remains more relevant than ever in today’s fractured America. Twenty years, ago, Robert D. Putnam made a seemingly simple observation: once we bowled in leagues, usually after work; but no longer. This seemingly small phenomenon symbolized a significant social change that became the basis of the acclaimed bestseller, Bowling Alone, which The Washington Post called “a very important book” and Putnam, “the de Tocqueville of our generation.” Bowling Alone surveyed in detail Americans’ changing behavior over the decades, showing how we had become increasingly disconnected from family, friends, neighbors, and social structures, whether it’s with the PTA, church, clubs, political parties, or bowling leagues. In the revised edition of his classic work, Putnam shows how our shrinking access to the “social capital” that is the reward of communal activity and community sharing still poses a serious threat to our civic and personal health, and how these consequences have a new resonance for our divided country today. He includes critical new material on the pervasive influence of social media and the internet, which has introduced previously unthinkable opportunities for social connection—as well as unprecedented levels of alienation and isolation. At the time of its publication, Putnam’s then-groundbreaking work showed how social bonds are the most powerful predictor of life satisfaction, and how the loss of social capital is felt in critical ways, acting as a strong predictor of crime rates and other measures of neighborhood quality of life, and affecting our health in other ways. While the ways in which we connect, or become disconnected, have changed over the decades, his central argument remains as powerful and urgent as ever: mending our frayed social capital is key to preserving the very fabric of our society.

The couple established Hills and Hollers Ministries, a mission organization in their new community, to do just that. This writing is a parable of sorts, a work of fiction in which the story of the joys and heartbreaks of this journey of discovery is brought to us through the lives of Paul and Marie, a husband and wife who continue daily to encounter the Living God along the road. In the very depth of your being.” —Bill Anderson “One of the things I like most about country life is that nothing much has really changed . . . My grandchildren and I are still walking and hunting in the same woods and fishing in the same creeks as I did with my father.” —President Jimmy Carter “Food was at the heart of our home. And, other than those troublesome vegetables, I loved all of it. We fried everything—we’d have even fried water if we could’ve.” —Keith Anderson “I can’t imagine what my life would have been without peaceful days, mountain streams, homegrown and home-cooked food, country church, and all-day singing with dinner on the grounds with family and friends.” —Dolly Parton “Growing up country—there’s nothing like it. It’s growing up with your grandmother and granddaddy around . . . it’s a lot of love when you need it, great cooking in the kitchen, and always being real.” —Eddie Montgomery Blackberry pie on the window ledge. The Grand Ole Opry on the radio. Sunday dinners on the table. Families swinging on the front porch after a hard day’s work. It’s all part of the country way of life. Here, legendary country music singer Charlie Daniels introduces and edits a collection of heartfelt essays from an all-star cast of contributors on what it means to grow up country. United by a love of music, these notables show us that country means more than just the twang of a guitar. They share a belief in hard work, integrity, strength of character, and having the courage not to quit. The stories here tell of rustic upbringings and rich spirits, of parents who believed in tough love and old-fashioned common sense, and of a strong sense of community, pride in your country, and a love of the natural world. You’ll get an intimate glimpse into the lives of: Country music royalty and all-time greats: such as Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell, Brenda Lee, Dobie Gray, and Lee Greenwood Southern rock gods: such as Gary Rossington and Donnie Van Zant The newest crop of stars: such as Sara Evans, Toby Keith, and Clint Black Special guests: such as former president Jimmy Carter, and seven-time all around rodeo champion Ty Murray These snapshots show how living country has allowed our favorite singers, songwriters, and stage performers to make a career out of doing what they love while never forgetting that when you’ve grown up country, home isn’t just a place where you live, it’s a state of the heart.
