Head and shoulders to see what they look like. If you’re casting cowboys you don’t want to be hiring Indians.” The producer wasn’t appeased. “The reservation’s just over the hill. Indians is what we’re gonna to get. And I don’t want to get scalped.” “Larry. As long as I’ve known you, you’re the one does the scalping.” Palm Springs, California Jim Grant enlists Vince McNulty’s help with a sting operation where wanted criminals are invited to audition as extras in a Titanic Productions movie. The plan is almost derailed when McNulty and Grant can’t resist protecting a hotel receptionist from an angry biker but the plan goes off without a hitch. Almost without a hitch. Mission successful. Except the Palm Springs sting is a dry run for the main person Grant wants to arrest; a crime lord movie buff in Loveland, Colorado. And the angry biker and the worst snow in decades mean that this time there will be blood and death and a very big hitch.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story depicts a biker and his experiences of becoming involved with people in a small Oklahoma community in the mideighties. Set in a time before the custom-bike craze with its TV shows and celebrity riders, this tale tries to present real situations because they are based on things that either happened to me or around me (or I just made up a good lie). This man, injured in the Vietnam War, medically discharged, having to relearn to walk and being labeled an outsider upon his return, becomes involved with a violent streetwise motorcycle gang and their drug- and alcohol-induced law-breaking ways. Becoming unhappy with the hard-core biker lifestyle he is living in California, he is miraculously freed from his club ties and takes on a new identity. With help from other helpful nonpatched bikers, bound only by their love of the freedom of the road, he works his way across the western states, doing heavy equipment work, winding up in the little town of Stigler, Oklahoma. There he meets various characters who make his life interesting. He befriends an old rancher with a secret and eventually goes to a bike rally near Wilburton, Oklahoma, where he meets and falls in love with a redhead who also has a biker-related past. Together, they forge a life involving motorcycles, a local bar and its denizens, fellow construction workers, the local law, run-ins with a former gang member, and help to make an old mans dreams come true.

Book Bicycling with Butterflies

Download or read book Bicycling with Butterflies written by Sara Dykman and published by Timber Press. This book was released on 2021-04-13 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “What a wonderful idea for an adventure! Absolutely inspired, timely, and important.” —Alistair Humphreys, National Geographic Adventurer of the Year and author of The Doorstep Mile and Around the World by Bike Outdoor educator and field researcher Sara Dykman made history when she became the first person to bicycle alongside monarch butterflies on their storied annual migration—a round-trip adventure that included three countries and more than 10,000 miles. Equally remarkable, she did it solo, on a bike cobbled together from used parts. Her panniers were recycled buckets. In Bicycling with Butterflies, Dykman recounts her incredible journey and the dramatic ups and downs of the nearly nine-month odyssey. We’re beside her as she navigates unmapped roads in foreign countries, checks roadside milkweed for monarch eggs, and shares her passion with eager schoolchildren, skeptical bar patrons, and unimpressed border officials. We also meet some of the ardent monarch stewards who supported her efforts, from citizen scientists and researchers to farmers and high-rise city dwellers. With both humor and humility, Dykman offers a compelling story, confirming the urgency of saving the threatened monarch migration—and the other threatened systems of nature that affect the survival of us all.

His racing suit draped over his left shoulder, a scratched helmet in his right hand and just £150 in his wallet, he was ready to take on the world. I lifted up my cracked UV visor with my thumb. 'Which way does the track go and what's the lap record?' I called out over the noise of the valve gear rattling and clanging between my legs. the flag marshal's eyebrows raised in disbelief. I could see him muttering, 'And who the hell do you think you are - Mike Hailwood?'Four years later 'Croz', as he is affectionately known to millions of fans, walked away from the glamour of world championship Grand Prix racing, taking with him a bag full of trophies and his ever-present sense of humour. In that short time he had achieved more than most riders could ever hope for in a lifetime of racing.Become his pillion passenger as he takes you on a fast and furious journey from the grassroots of New Zealand motorcycle racing through Australia, Japan, the UK and Europe. Experience with him the crashes, the pain, the elation of winning and the international controversies.
