Book Clean Jockey Shorts

    Book Details:
  • Author : Irving Gold
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2004-10
  • ISBN : 9781413465785
  • Pages : 340 pages

Download or read book Clean Jockey Shorts written by Irving Gold and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2004-10 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Missing Picture Meets a Prologue to a Trilogy Why one would ask hang a picture frame on the back cover of a book without a face in it? The answer is sad and simple. It has everything to do with the bitter quarrel the author had with his publisher. But first for the promised Prologue. Tom was hauled out of a pot one day by the Almighty's hand, howling for a guardian angel. Dick followed closely behind and might have filled that slot but could only be half an angel having a strong, active conscience which operated solely on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and plummeted on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On Sundays, his conscience rested. Harry entered the next day with a nose like no other nose on earth. The pages are filled with money and politics, and get lost in other distractions; yet manage to start at the beginning, develop to a middle and limp to the end. The book is called, Clean Jockey Shorts, and from it, another book emerged called, Feisty Footnotes, with a sub- title of, Hang Disconnected from Top to Bottom. It was the Feisty Footnotes part that lit the fire between publisher and writer. Browsers with the patience to turn its pages will discover that there are 350 Feisty Footnotes and 75 Limericks, usually having nothing to do with what they are footnoting. The author, therefore demanded that the price of the book be doubled so that his own royalties would follow suit, arguing that the reader was getting two books for the price of one. The publisher resisted, and though he represented Corporate America, he acted against type and sided with the long-suffer- ing consumer, while opposing Writer's Greed. The publisher, unfortunately, prevailed. We have at last come to that crucial time: to listen to the author's apology for his refusal to show his face. Had he exposed it to the public, it would have been a disaster for anyone with eyes in their sockets. They would see a repulsively disgusting countenance with a combustible scowl, worn by a sullen scribbler because he had been swindled out of his just due. Now, on to the starter's gate for a wild ride.

Book Black Love Matters

Download or read book Black Love Matters written by Jessica P. Pryde and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An incisive, intersectional essay anthology that celebrates and examines romance and romantic media through the lens of Black readers, writers, and cultural commentators, edited by Book Riot columnist and librarian Jessica Pryde. Romantic love has been one of the most essential elements of storytelling for centuries. But for Black people in the United States and across the diaspora, it hasn't often been easy to find Black romance joyfully showcased in entertainment media. In this collection, revered authors and sparkling newcomers, librarians and academicians, and avid readers and reviewers consider the mirrors and windows into Black love as it is depicted in the novels, television shows, and films that have shaped their own stories. Whether personal reflection or cultural commentary, these essays delve into Black love now and in the past, including topics from the history of Black romance to social justice and the Black community to the meaning of desire and desirability. Exploring the multifaceted ways love is seen—and the ways it isn't—this diverse array of Black voices collectively shines a light on the power of crafting happy endings for Black lovers. Jessica Pryde is joined by Carole V. Bell, Sarah Hannah Gomez, Jasmine Guillory, Da’Shaun Harrison, Margo Hendricks, Adriana Herrera, Piper Huguley, Kosoko Jackson, Nicole M. Jackson, Beverly Jenkins, Christina C. Jones, Julie Moody-Freeman, and Allie Parker in this collection.
