Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now published in its Second Edition, the Textbook of Clinical Trials offers detailed coverage of trial methodology in diverse areas of medicine in a single comprehensive volume. Praise for the First Edition: "... very useful as an introduction to clinical research, or for those planning specific studies within therapeutic or disease areas." BRITISH JOURNAL OF SURGERY, Vol. 92, No. 2, February 2005 The book’s main concept is to describe the impact of clinical trials on the practice of medicine. It separates the information by therapeutic area because the impact of clinical trials, the problems encountered, and the numbers of trials in existence vary tremendously from specialty to specialty. The sections provide a background to the disease area and general clinical trial methodology before concentrating on particular problems experienced in that area. Specific examples are used throughout to address these issues. The Textbook of Clinical Trials, Second Edition: Highlights the various ways clinical trials have influenced the practice of medicine in many therapeutic areas Describes the challenges posed by those conducting clinical trials over a range of medical specialities and allied fields Additional therapeutic areas are included in this Second Edition to fill gaps in the First Edition as the number and complexity of trials increases in this rapidly developing area Newly covered or updated in the Second Edition: general surgery, plastic surgery, aesthetic surgery, palliative care, primary care, anaesthesia and pain, transfusion, wound healing, maternal and perinatal health, early termination, organ transplants, ophthalmology, epilepsy, infectious disease, neuro-oncology, adrenal, thyroid and urological cancers, as well as a chapter on the Cochrane network An invaluable resource for pharmaceutical companies, the Textbook of Clinical Trials, Second Edition appeals to those working in contract research organizations, medical departments and in the area of public health and health science alike.

Book How We Can Halt the Cipro and Levaquin Catastrophe

Download or read book How We Can Halt the Cipro and Levaquin Catastrophe written by Jay Cohen and published by . This book was released on 2015-10-25 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the powerful, sometimes lifesaving, yet sometimes highly destructive antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones. Best known of these drugs are Cipro (ciprofloxacin) and Levaquin (levofloxacin), as well as four others. This book, How We Can Halt the Cipro and Levaquin Catastrophe: the Worst Medication Disaster in U.S. History, has two main goals. The first goal is to alert patients and doctors of the truly destructive capability of these drugs to cause serious, sometimes long term, sometimes permanent injuries. The capacity of these drugs for such damage has been attested by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and others many times and is by now incontrovertible. Hundreds of patients, many of whom are quoted in this book, have confirmed their long-lasting injuries to me, while many hundreds more have been ignored or dismissed by their doctors. This must stop. Ignoring these problems has only made the problem worse. My second goal in writing How We Can Halt the Cipro and Levaquin Catastrophe: the Worst Medication Disaster in U.S. History is to stimulate the interest of government, the drug industry, medical institutions and all others for any and all ideas regarding remedies, solutions, and any other ideas that may help end the suffering experienced by patients with the Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Syndrome that can affect many human systems including the musculoskeletal, nervous, psychiatric, gastrointestinal, and others. As you will see, I have offered some ideas for therapies that may provide benefit to some of the injured. I think it is imperative that we follow a trail that may lead us to an understanding of how these drugs work and particularly how they injure, and most of all how we might help people heal, obtain pain reduction and hope. Thousands of lives, young and old, depend on the efforts that we make.

Download or read book The Simple Path to Wealth written by Jl Collins and published by Jl Collins LLC. This book was released on 2021-08-16 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the dark, bewildering, trap-infested jungle of misinformation and opaque riddles that is the world of investment, JL Collins is the fatherly wizard on the side of the path, offering a simple map, warm words of encouragement and the tools to forge your way through with confidence. You'll never find a wiser advisor with a bigger heart." -- Malachi Rempen: Filmmaker, cartoonist, author and self-described ruffian This book grew out of a series of letters to my daughter concerning various things-mostly about money and investing-she was not yet quite ready to hear. Since money is the single most powerful tool we have for navigating this complex world we've created, understanding it is critical. "But Dad," she once said, "I know money is important. I just don't want to spend my life thinking about it." This was eye-opening. I love this stuff. But most people have better things to do with their precious time. Bridges to build, diseases to cure, treaties to negotiate, mountains to climb, technologies to create, children to teach, businesses to run. Unfortunately, benign neglect of things financial leaves you open to the charlatans of the financial world. The people who make investing endlessly complex, because if it can be made complex it becomes more profitable for them, more expensive for us, and we are forced into their waiting arms. Here's an important truth: Complex investments exist only to profit those who create and sell them. Not only are they more costly to the investor, they are less effective. The simple approach I created for her and present now to you, is not only easy to understand and implement, it is more powerful than any other. Together we'll explore: Debt: Why you must avoid it and what to do if you have it. The importance of having F-you Money. How to think about money, and the unique way understanding this is key to building your wealth. Where traditional investing advice goes wrong and what actually works. What the stock market really is and how it really works. Why the stock market always goes up and why most people still lose money investing in it. How to invest in a raging bull, or bear, market. Specific investments to implement these strategies. The Wealth Building and Wealth Preservation phases of your investing life and why they are not always tied to your age. How your asset allocation is tied to those phases and how to choose it. How to simplify the sometimes confusing world of 401(k), 403(b), TSP, IRA and Roth accounts. TRFs (Target Retirement Funds), HSAs (Health Savings Accounts) and RMDs (Required Minimum Distributions). What investment firm to use and why the one I recommend is so far superior to the competition. Why you should be very cautious when engaging an investment advisor and whether you need to at all. Why and how you can be conned, and how to avoid becoming prey. Why I don't recommend dollar cost averaging. What financial independence looks like and how to have your money support you. What the 4% rule is and how to use it to safely spend your wealth. The truth behind Social Security. A Case Study on how this all can be implemented in real life. Enjoy the read, and the journey!

Book Emergency Incident Management Systems

Download or read book Emergency Incident Management Systems written by Louis N. Molino, Sr. and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-04-20 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A "street smart" look atincident management in all its permutations Incident Management Systems (IMS) provide the means by which to coordinate the efforts of individual agencies in order to stabilize an incident and protect life, property, and the environment. Born from the FireScope project of the late 1960s, which was developed in response to the major wildfires that regularly plagued Southern California, these systems have evolved with many similarities and certain fundamental differences. Emergency Incident Management Systems: Fundamentals and Applications contrasts the major forms of Incident Management/Incident Command Systems. The author illuminates these differences and offers a fresh perspective on the concepts on which these systems are founded in order to make them more accessible and user-friendly. Without suggesting major changes in the systems, he bridges the gap between their theoretical and academic foundations and their real-world applications, and makes them more applicable to the professional's daily needs. Timely features of the book include: * An "in the field" point of view * Coverage of incidents of mass destruction * Filled-out sample forms designed to aid professionals in completing reports In post-9/11 America, where incident management has become a national priority-one that must be easilyunderstood and applicable across all emergency systems-this book provides a useful tool for helping today's emergency workers be more informed and more prepared than ever.
