Book BJJ Notebook

Download or read book BJJ Notebook written by Thadeu Vieira and published by BJJ Notebook. This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you don't know the answers to these questions... You need the BJJ Notebook!- What did you learn last week?- Can you remember that awesome class from last month?- How many times did you win or lose during the past 12 months?- What submissions caused you to lose more often than others? - Can you list all techniques that you learned in the last seminar?- How many points did you score in your last tournament?- What does your instructor recommend that you focus on?- What do you need to improve TODAY?"This is the first non-instructional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu book ever published and it is the most important to have because it's the only one about YOU".Helio Gracie, one of the founding fathers of Jiu-Jitsu, said that "BJJ is for everyone." People will try and quit BJJ for a variety of reasons beyond a BJJ school's control. However, no one should quit BJJ because they didn't have every opportunity to succeed. There is no "one-size-fits-all" BJJ. Every student will receive and internalize the lessons of BJJ in a unique way and create their own personalized version of BJJ. This is one of the beautiful aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Each student has the opportunity to access the infinite variety and richness of BJJ and create their own work of art that becomes part of their person. There are precious few things in life that can claim to provide such a wholesome and rewarding benefit.A BJJ notebook serves the practical purpose of a training log helping to remember all of the different moves that were taught over previous weeks, months and years. In BJJ, one can go years without seeing the same move taught twice. If a move is taught by an instructor and then quickly forgotten, how is that different from never having learned it in the first place? This BJJ notebook is the first BJJ JOURNAL, which was designed to make the most out of the beginning steps in what is hopefully a long and fruitful BJJ journey. Encouraging the use of the BJJ notebook is one of the ways a BJJ school can make the BJJ journey more accessible to those willing to put in the effort. It can serve as a basis to promote discussion and interaction among students about issues they are facing and allow students to learn from each other. The martial arts journey will still take enormous work and dedication. However, the BJJ notebook should at least provide a mechanism to help focus the student's effort to get the most of the BJJ experience.

Book Kicking and Screaming

Download or read book Kicking and Screaming written by Melanie D. Gibson and published by She Writes Press. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Melanie Gibson was an independent woman with a good job, multiple college degrees, and a condo in the trendy part of town. She also had a few mental illnesses, a minor substance abuse problem, and rotten relationship skills. She was a high-functioning crazy who needed a good kick in the pants, literally and metaphorically. In early 2013, as a last desperate means to save her sanity, Melanie turned to a nearly forgotten childhood activity: the Korean martial art of taekwondo. As if the universe were listening, she discovered her West Texas childhood taekwondo instructors’ Grandmaster operated a taekwondo school a few miles from her home in Fort Worth, Texas—and she decided to start her training over as a white belt. In taekwondo, Melanie felt like she had a fresh start in more ways than one. She found an inner peace she’d never known before, a sense of community, a newfound confidence, and a positive outlook on life. The kicking and screaming she was doing in class quieted the long-term kicking and screaming in her mind. Funny and frank, Kicking and Screaming: A Memoir of Madness and Marital Arts is the story of Melanie’s life-changing journey from troubled, lost soul to confident taekwondo black belt.

Book Zen Jiu Jitsu Training Log

Download or read book Zen Jiu Jitsu Training Log written by Oliver Staark and published by . This book was released on 2013-03-16 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Keeping track of your progress is paramount if you plan to improve in your jiu jitsu game. Most high level Black Belts and World Champions know that if you improve your technique by only 1% each day then the compounding effect will make you proficient in the gentle art at a very high level. Keeping a series of techniques in your head is a complex matter. This is human chess after all, for every attack there is a defense for every sweep, takedown, pass, submission there is a counter...and counter to that counter. It makes much more sense to keep taking notes than trying to remember what you did, even if you just did it. How many times do you get to the next class after practicing a sweep and you can't remember the vaguest detail! Also, when you review, as you should periodically, some techniques you will identify as being easy to perform and fit your body-type better. These techniques I put a checkmark in the corner of my journal and come back to drill some more. The techniques that present a challenge should have an X in the corner of the page, meaning you need to revisit this in more detail maybe with your professor or coach. This art form is a process yet it is system driven. One thing leads logically to another. It's position-transition-submission. The logic, though, is lightning in a bottle. It needs to be grasped and placed into the correct place in the puzzle or the puzzle will not unlock. Remember how a technique was working really well and you were catching everyone or passing guards, then a couple of weeks later it stopped working?? What happened? Probably, a detail you were applying has now been forgotten. Wouldn't it be great if you could go back and retrieve that detail, well, now you can with the Zen Jiu Jitsu Training Log.
