Book Behavioral Sport Psychology

Download or read book Behavioral Sport Psychology written by James K. Luiselli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-25 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sport psychology is a topic of growing interest. Many professionals read journals such as The International Journal of Sports, Journal of Sport Behavior, Journal of Applied Sport Psychology, Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, and The Sport Psychologist. In August 2008, Monitor on Psychology, the monthly publication of the American Psychological Association (APA), featured a special issue on sport psychology. Indeed, Division 47 of APA is devoted to "the scientific, educational, and clinical foundations of exercise and sport psychology." The North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (NASPSPA) and the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology (AAASP) convene conferences each year to present scientific findings and new developments in a rapidly expanding field. The AAASP and other organizations also qualify professionals as certified sport and exercise psychology consultants. Finally, a visit to any bookstore will reveal the lay public’s fascination with sports, as revealed in numerous self-help books and guides to perfecting athletic performance. Behavioral psychologists have studied sport psychology for more than three decades (Martin, Thompson, & Regehr, 2004). Applied behavior analysis (ABA), in particular, has been an instrumental approach to behavioral coaching in many sports, including baseball (Osborne, Rudrud, & Zezoney, 1990), basketball (Pates, Cummings, & Maynard, 2002), figure skating (Ming & Martin, 1996), football (Ward & Carnes, 2002), golf (Pates, Oliver, & Maynard, 2001), ice hockey (Rogerson & Hrycaiko, 2002), soccer (Brobst & Ward, 2002), swimming (Hume & Crossman, 1992), and tennis (Allison & Ayllon, 1980). ABA stresses the application of learning theory principles, objective measurement of athletic skills, controlled outcome evaluation, and socially significant behavior-change. Cognitive behavior therapy, or CBT, also has been a dominant approach to psychological intervention in sports (Meyers, Whelan, & Murphy, 1996; Weinberg & Comar, 1994). CBT addresses athletic performance through cognitive-change methods combined with behavioral practice and environmental modifications. The purpose of the book described in this proposal is to compile the most recent experimental and applied research in behavioral sport psychology. Several journal articles have reviewed critical dimensions of behavioral sport psychology (Martin et al., 2004; Martin, Vause, & Schwartzman, 2005) but no book has covered the topic with an emphasis on ABA and CBT methodology and practice. Accordingly, Behavioral Sport Psychology: Evidence-Based Approaches to Performance Enhancement is a first of its kind volume.

Book Psychology of Brazilian jiu jitsu

Download or read book Psychology of Brazilian jiu jitsu written by Bakari Akil II, Ph.D. and published by Academic Group Publishing (BRAII-owner). This book was released on 2017-08-03 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grappling is a smash-mouth activity. It is a put your beer down and let’s settle this type of martial art. Man vs. man, woman vs. man, child vs. man, it is one of the ultimate ‘prove it’ combat sports. Yet, once you get past the rough and challenging aspect of submission wrestling it’s easy to see that grappling is much more than that. It is also a very cerebral activity. Psychology is the study of mental processes and behaviors. By studying our psyches we hope to learn how to successfully navigate our world and become more capable in our endeavors. As the goal of theory is explanatory and predictive power, using psychology theories can help us to understand some of the existential questions behind our art and can help us to create better models for training and success. In other instances, it is just plain fun to think about. The application of psychology to submission wrestling is relatively new and in many cases non-existent, so this book is more of an exploration of what is possible. It covers a broad range of topics and doesn’t hesitate to introduce counterintuitive thought for the reader to ponder and digest. "Psychology of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu" will whet your appetite to see how psychology can be applied to grappling and not just in a generic sports psychology sense. Through the use of essay, "Psychology of BJJ" talks about what it’s like to be the new guy, problems with warm-ups, success by default, immersive environments, why you can’t always be nice in practice and even asks outright, “Are you happy?” If that is not enough, it also discusses why you absolutely must not avoid better grapplers, tells you what type of grappler you are and why your team is just as important as your coach. Additionally, "Psychology of BJJ" delves into the unconscious mind and talks about easy ways to improve by taking simple steps you probably never thought about before. It also discusses quirky, but valid, psychological theory, based on new research that can make a difference in your grappling game.

Book Lee s Street Jiu Jitsu Training Techniques Vol 1 The Essential Defense Guide to Use in a Street Fight

Download or read book Lee s Street Jiu Jitsu Training Techniques Vol 1 The Essential Defense Guide to Use in a Street Fight written by Wolf and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-10-18 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an art form by the Gracie Brothers, designed to help ordinary people learn how to protect themselves in a fight on the ground. There is much interest in this because many fights that start on the feet usually end up on the ground. In contrast, I have designed a program called "Lee's Street Jiu Jitsu" in order to help others learn how to defend themselves in a street fight whether he or she have Martial Arts experience or none. Most of all, readers will find many of the examples helpful and useful in their daily lives whether the fight is on the ground or standing up. This book will be the perfect guide to help readers understand the various scenarios associated with dealing with dangerous people and unexpected attacks. It will teach the reader how to manage their fears, anxiety, mindset, self-control and develop self- confidence and awareness skills while being involved in an physical altercation. Also, it will dispel some of the rumors about Martial Artist Black Belt vs. Street Fighter situations. More importantly, this book will provide a lecture, training examples and demonstrations to help prepare anyone who finds themselves involved in a street fight. It is always better to be prepared than to wait until something bad happens. We live in a dangerous world were assaults seem to occur all too frequently in schools, aggressive driving situations on the road and during simple petty arguments or disagreements. In today's society more and more people or resolving their disagreements with fists as oppose to talking things out exhibiting bad behavior. In my experience I have seen too many examples of this conduct and this is why it was necessary to create this program to empower readers who may not have the time to join a Martial Arts gym or do any self-defense training regularly. Truth is, if you are able to master just a few of these techniques and apply them well, you will find them to be very useful and perhaps use them whenever danger arise.

Book Her Own Hero

Download or read book Her Own Hero written by Wendy L. Rouse and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2019-03-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surprising roots of the self-defense movement and the history of women’s empowerment. At the turn of the twentieth century, women famously organized to demand greater social and political freedoms like gaining the right to vote. However, few realize that the Progressive Era also witnessed the birth of the women’s self-defense movement. It is nearly impossible in today’s day and age to imagine a world without the concept of women’s self defense. Some women were inspired to take up boxing and jiu-jitsu for very personal reasons that ranged from protecting themselves from attacks by strangers on the street to rejecting gendered notions about feminine weakness and empowering themselves as their own protectors. Women’s training in self defense was both a reflection of and a response to the broader cultural issues of the time, including the women’s rights movement and the campaign for the vote. Perhaps more importantly, the discussion surrounding women’s self-defense revealed powerful myths about the source of violence against women and opened up conversations about the less visible violence that many women faced in their own homes. Through self-defense training, women debunked patriarchal myths about inherent feminine weakness, creating a new image of women as powerful and self-reliant. Whether or not women consciously pursued self-defense for these reasons, their actions embodied feminist politics. Although their individual motivations may have varied, their collective action echoed through the twentieth century, demanding emancipation from the constrictions that prevented women from exercising their full rights as citizens and human beings. This book is a fascinating and comprehensive introduction to one of the most important women’s issues of all time. This book will provoke good debate and offer distinct responses and solutions.

Book Gender violence Change your life and stop being a victim it s easy

Download or read book Gender violence Change your life and stop being a victim it s easy written by Oleg Nashchubskiy and published by Oleg Nashchubskiy. This book was released on with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender-based violence is a complex and multifaceted issue, and many people, even if they do not have direct experience as a victim or perpetrator, still have difficulty understanding it. Initially, it is important to recognize that gender-based violence is not limited to physical violence. It also includes emotional, psychological and economic abuse, as well as threats and control. Most cases of gender-based violence do not occur due to force, but rather due to the desire to control and suppress another person. Regarding the question of why men commit gender-based violence and women remain in such relationships, the answers can be multifaceted and depend on the specific situation. For example, men may use gender-based violence to maintain power and control in relationships, and women may remain in such relationships due to fear, dependency, economic vulnerability, or cultural and social dynamics. Gender-based violence is a broad and complex social problem that affects many aspects of human life. It can manifest itself in various forms and contexts, including the family environment, social relationships, work environment, etc. It is important to understand that gender-based violence is not limited only to physical actions, although they often act as one of its manifestations. It also includes emotional abuse, psychological abuse, economic abuse, and threats and behavioral control. One of the main causes of gender-based violence is the desire to control and suppress another person. This may occur due to inequalities in power and status between partners, as well as cultural and social attitudes that support and reinforce inequality between genders. In addition, stereotypes about masculinity and femininity can contribute to the emergence and maintenance of gender-based violence by creating norms of behavior that justify or normalize such actions. It is important to understand that gender-based violence can affect all people, regardless of their gender, age, race, social status or other characteristics. Although women make up the majority of victims of gender-based violence, men can also be victims, and this often goes unappreciated or underappreciated in society. Gender -based violence can affect both women and men, and people of any gender identity. It is important to understand that gender-based violence is not limited to female victims, although women and girls make up a significant proportion of victims. However, men, boys and people with other gender identities can also be vulnerable to gender-based violence. Research shows that men can also be victims of gender-based violence, but the frequency and forms of violence may vary depending on cultural, social and other factors. Gender-based violence is a complex and diverse issue that requires attention and support for all victims, regardless of their gender identity. Combating gender-based violence requires a systemic approach that includes education and public awareness of the problem, strengthening legal and legal responses, support for victims, and working to change cultural norms and stereotypes about gender. Working to overcome gender-based violence requires the participation of the entire society and efforts at all levels - from the personal to the global. Gender-based violence includes a wide range of forms, including physical, emotional, sexual and economic violence, as well as threats and controlling behavior. It can manifest itself in various areas of life, including the family environment, social relationships, work environment, etc. In our world, where we strive for equality and justice, the topic of gender-based violence remains one of the most important and relevant. Gender-based violence is not only a physical problem, but also a complex socio-cultural phenomenon that covers various aspects of human life. In our book we will look at this problem in all its manifestations and aspects, exploring the various types of violence, its causes and consequences, as well as ways to overcome and prevent it. In the first part, we dive into the world of types of gender-based violence, revealing its multifaceted nature: from physical violence to emotional, psychological and economic. We will look at each type separately, analyzing its causes, mechanisms of action and consequences for victims. In Part 2, we delve deeper into the drivers and causes of gender-based violence, exploring the role of cultural stereotypes, social expectations, power and control. We will conduct research into the personal and psychological factors that contribute to the emergence and maintenance of gender-based violence in modern society. The third part of our book is dedicated to support for victims of gender-based violence. We cover primary care, safety, mental health, legal and social support, offering readers practical advice and resources to support themselves and those around them. In part four, we will turn to preventing and combating gender-based violence, discussing the role of education, programs and campaigns, working with perpetrators and community engagement in solving this problem. The final part of our book will review the main ideas proposed in it and call readers to action. We hope that our work will become not only a source of knowledge, but also a source of inspiration for those who strive to create a world free of gender-based violence. We invite you on a journey through the complex paths of gender-based violence, where together we will try to understand its nature, consequences and ways to overcome it.
