Book Jesus Christ and the World Today Classic Reprint

Download or read book Jesus Christ and the World Today Classic Reprint written by Grace Hutchins and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-04 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Jesus Christ and the World Today The aim of these studies is to seek in and through the mind and experience of Jesus Christ the way of life for individuals, churches, classes, and nations that shall lead toward a solution of our present problems. We believe that Jesus Christ is the hope of the world; the studies assume this belief and attempt to analyze its implications for the world today. They do not attempt, how ever, to present an economic or political program. We believe that such programs are very definitely the concern of Christians, but intelligent discus sion of programs must follow a clear analysis of our personal share in social wrongs and of the kind of relationships we should try to express in our economic and political life. Just as the preparation of these studies was begun, The Untried Door, by the Reverend Rich ard Roberts, came to us. We read it with a deep sense of agreement and gratitude. We must ex press our indebtedness, also, to the late Walter Rauschenbusch whose Christianity and the Social Crisis translated for us several years ago the hope of the Kingdom into terms of modern life. Book Jesus Christ for Today s World

Download or read book Jesus Christ for Today s World written by Jürgen Moltmann and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 1995-08-21 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J rgen Moltmann formulates necessary questions about the significance of Jesus the Christ for persons today. He offers a compelling portrait of the earthly Jesus as the divine brother in our distress and suffering and points to the risen Christ as the warrant for the "future in which God will restore everything . . . and gather everything into his kingdom." Urging that acknowledgment of Christ and discipleship are two sides of the same coin, Moltmann contends that the question of Jesus Christ for today is not just an intellectual one. Moltmann takes fresh approaches to a number of crucial topics: Jesus and the kingdom of God, the passion of Christ and the pain of God, Jesus as brother of the tortured, and the resurrection of Christ as hope for the world, the cosmic Christ, Jesus in Jewish- Christian dialogue, the future of God, and others.

Book The Life of Christ in the World

Download or read book The Life of Christ in the World written by Arthur Brooks and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of Christ in the World: Sermons "And God said. Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters." - Genesis i. 6. It is not difficult to understand the conception X which was in the mind of the writer of this verse. In it he ascribes to God that wonderful balance between the forces of earth and sky by which the two are kept from invading each other. The method by which God accomplishes this is the interposition of the solid expanse of heaven, by which the waters are separated from the waters, and the proper distinction of region carefully preserved. It was a most natural conception for one who, in the dawn of knowledge, looked up and saw the blue vault of heaven above his head, with the stars shining as gems in its solid expanse. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The World's Witness to Jesus Christ: The Power of Christianity in Developing Modern Civilization In the two lectures which it has become my duty to deliver, I propose, by God's blessing, to present one form of the general historical argu ment which seems to me to be a strong one; and that not so much in the negative way of defence, as in the positive way of assertion. I am not at all sure that the charge will not be brought against positions and method alike, that they are quite old-fashioned and out of date. I am altogether sure that they ought neither to be forgotten nor abandoned. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Life of Jesus Christ Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Life of Jesus Christ Classic Reprint written by Heinrich Ewald and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of Jesus Christ Even in the period next after this violent stifling, this mysterious stillness of the new Spirit in the world lasts on until it irresistibly penetrates it ever more strongly, and then soon both Jews and heathens say enough of it, when they had already lost the opportunity of being able to know most accurately about Christ. Thus Flavius Josephus is the only non-christian historian of the first century we possess who speaks of Christ. In the first indeed of his two great works - the history of the Jewish War - he did not speak of Him, he had no need in respect of the principal subject of it. But we cannot see how he, in the Antiquities, should have neglected to speak, however briefly, of Christ and His followers; as there he mentions much far less important, and that work professes to give a general history of the people, according to all its aims, various divisions, and manifold crises. Had he also in this work said nothing of Christianity, that could only be explained from a want of clear views on the subjects which had so completely fettered him, that he preferred to be silent on a matter so imperfectly known to him. He had certainly, when he wrote his work for the roman-greek world, a secret horror of every thing Messianic, and Christianity must have appeared to him, as to all the Jews of his views, something incomprehensible; and' besides, as it was felt how much this last division had injured the Jews, it must have been a subject disagree able and repugnant. But these grounds seem insuflicient for his entirely overlooking it. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Sword of Christ and the World War Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Sword of Christ and the World War Classic Reprint written by Perry James Stackhouse and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Sword of Christ and the World War The World War has forced many new, pressing, and perplexing problems upon the preacher. To him has been intrusted the gospel of reconciliation, of peace and good will to men, and how to preach that gospel in a world of war when nation is divided against nation and a man's foes are found even in his own national household, is by no means easy for him to determine. He may be successful in evading or ignoring the problems of the higher criticism and the doctrine of evolution; but war, with its terrible, insistent, and heart-searching questions, is a brutal, stubborn fact that must be met and answered. Let it be granted that the preacher has fallen upon difficult days. New questions which go to the very core of religion and ethics are hurled at him. A hundred new demands are being made upon his time, and when he is asked to give up his service for the advertising of liberty loans or for a discussion of the problems of food conservation, he is sometimes in doubt as to whether the calls of country are the calls of God. Book Evidence for the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ Examined through Islamic Law

Download or read book Evidence for the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ Examined through Islamic Law written by Suheil Madanat and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2023-08-31 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For almost 1,400 years, Christians have wrestled with appropriate ways to defend their claims to truth in the context of Islam. Dr. Suheil Madanat proposes that the answer lies neither in the antagonization of polemics nor apologetic arguments rooted in Western legal systems, but instead in utilizing the authority of Islamic law itself. While evidence for the resurrection has been legally examined since the seventeenth century, legal apologetics has primarily utilized secular law systems such as Anglo-American common law. In this study, Dr. Madanat tests evidence for the crucifixion and resurrection against Islam’s fixed theocratic law of Sharia. Offering an overview of the evolution and constitution of Islamic law, Dr. Madanat examines how eyewitness testimonies and confessions in the New Testament hold up against Islam’s strict standards for evidence. Authenticating the Gospels using the same standards Islamic scholars use to defend the authenticity of the Qur’an and Sunna, Madanat examines the testimonies of the four evangelists, the confessions of James and Paul, and the circumstantial evidence offered by archeology, church history, and the Christian impact on civilization. This book engages with Islam and its sacred texts seriously and with respect, providing a powerful resource for those interested in apologetics and comparative religion.

Book The World Conquering Fiction

Download or read book The World Conquering Fiction written by John L. Bracht and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-02-16 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The grand claim of the Christian religion is that it alone has the answer to the human "plight," which is that all people are born into a state of "lostness," and are estranged from God. If they die outside of God's grace and salvation, they will enter an eternal state of separation from God. The solution to this terrible plight is the saving death of Jesus. But does the Christian doctrine of salvation make sense? Curiously, most believers assert that faith isn't supposed to make sense in a human, rational way. It is God's revealed truth, the "mystery of faith," and it can only be understood through faith. That response, however, has long ceased to be acceptable to most thinking people. The more the theologians explain their view of salvation, the deeper the hole of incomprehensibility they dig. We are in the midst of a paradigm shift in our perception of the "truth" that is shaking the foundations of our inherited religious traditions.
