King Saul of the Bible went through several hard stages in his life before he reached his death, and they were as a result of his disobedience. God doesnt want His people to suffer the same hardships, so he urges us to travel down a different road. As you read this book, allow God to clean you. He wants you and I to remain on the path of righteousness, or to set us back on that path. He wants to bless us through obedience. Do you want to forever dwell in His blessings? And Mr. Foster’s colleagues, shocked as they may be, have some shocking secrets of their own. It’s Eve’s job to get a feel for all the potential suspects—and find out why someone would have done this to a man who seemed so inoffensive, so pleasant...so innocent. Someone Eve could easily picture dead is an old flame of her billionaire husband Roarke, who has turned up in New York and manipulated herself back into his life. Consumed by her jealousy—and Roarke’s indifference to it—Eve finds it hard to focus on the Foster case. But when another man turns up dead, she’ll have to keep in mind that both innocence and guilt can be facades...

Download or read book The Dangerous Passion written by David M. Buss and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2000-02-14 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do men and women cheat on each other? How do men really feel when their partners have sex with other men? What worries women more -- men who turn to other women for love or men who simply want sexual variety in their lives? Can the jealousy husbands and wives experience over real or imagined infidelities be cured? Should it be? In this surprising and engaging exploration of men's and women's darker passions, David Buss, acclaimed author of The Evolution of Desire, reveals that both men and women are actually designed for jealousy. Drawing on experiments, surveys, and interviews conducted in thirty-seven countries on six continents, as well as insights from recent discoveries in biology, anthropology, and psychology, Buss discovers that the evolutionary origins of our sexual desires still shape our passions today. According to Buss, more men than women want to have sex with multiple partners. Furthermore, women who cheat on their husbands do so when they are most likely to conceive, but have sex with their spouses when they are least likely to conceive. These findings show that evolutionary tendencies to acquire better genes through different partners still lurk beneath modern sexual behavior. To counteract these desires to stray -- and to strengthen the bonds between partners -- jealousy evolved as an early detection system of infidelity in the ancient and mysterious ritual of mating. Buss takes us on a fascinating journey through many cultures, from pre-historic to the present, to show the profound evolutionary effect jealousy has had on all of us. Only with a healthy balance of jealousy and trust can we be certain of a mate's commitment, devotion, and true love.

Book The Sister Knot Why We Fight Why We re Jealous and Why We ll Love Each Other No Matter What

Download or read book The Sister Knot Why We Fight Why We re Jealous and Why We ll Love Each Other No Matter What written by Terri Apter and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2008-01-17 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The best book on sisters, very important and beautifully written.”—Carol Gilligan, author of In a Different Voice This “substantial contribution to the literature on sibling relationships” (Library Journal) explores the intricacy, friction, and love in bonds between sisters. Relationships between women are often freighted with a rocky mix of emotions—devotion and disregard, affection and loathing, admiration and envy—leading to anguish and confusion on the playground, in the home, and in the boardroom. Negotiating her layered feelings toward a sister shapes a woman’s psychology as forcefully as do her relationships with her parents. Drawing on compelling interviews and new research, Terri Apter considers the many aspects of the sister relationship from birth through adulthood. The need to fight to differentiate oneself from a sister, as well the protectiveness one feels for that same person, is explained by reference to extensive psychological and biological evidence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jealous for You: An Expose of the Love of God is a concise yet thorough look at the heart of God and his motives that would cause him to so love the world that he would give his only begotten Son to die for it. John 3:16 has been a verse of scripture used so flippantly in this day and age that it is possible that the world has become immune to it, and God himself seems to be detached from it as well. However, it is the design of the thoughts in this survey of the love and person of God to put the attention back where it belongs--on God himself. In this presentation, we discover who is this God that declares that his name is Jealous? What are the key components that has aroused his jealousy to be expressed? Why is man so important to God that he would go to such an extreme to send his only begotten Son to die on the cross of Calvary? How should we examine and evaluate what he has said and done? You should set your mind to be ready to see that which you may not have seen before and understand that which is not easily understood, as we discover why God is Jealous for you. The foundation of the thoughts of this idea of God being jealous for you is what God has said, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness and let them have dominion" (Gen. 1:26a). The creation of man from God's perspective was good and his conclusion with his desire to make man in his image to be a representation of him on earth was very good. However, because of sin, all that God had purpose for man and through man in creation was drastically destroyed. It had caused God to come to another conclusion that it had repented him that he made man because of the evil imaginations of his heart. The thoughts and judgments of God are decisive and without question as he declares who he is and the immutability of his counsel. God's exclusive right is based upon the absolute truth that he declares about himself, "I am God, and there is none else." There is no one or nothing that has an inherit right to loyalty or allegiance like God. Because of who he is and what he has declared about himself, he validates the framework of his jealousy for his creation. He is jealous for his image, his will, and his glory. Jealous for You has brought together the simplicity and truth of the scriptures, with insights that God has made known about his person to enlighten our understanding about the jealousy of God for you.

Book Jealous Gods and Chosen People

Download or read book Jealous Gods and Chosen People written by David Leeming and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2004-03-04 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholar Leeming offers the first comprehensive narrative study of the mythology of the Middle East, that tumultuous region that was the cradle of civilization. Leeming begins with a brief history, followed by an in-depth discussion of the mythology of the region, ranging from prehistoric figures such as the mother goddess of Catal Huyuk to Mesopotamian gods such as Marduk and mythic heroes such as Gilgamesh, to the pantheon of Egyptian mythology. He also explores the mythology of the three great monotheistic religions of the region: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In a provocative epilogue, Leeming notes that fundamentalists in the area's three religions today all see their way as the only way, forgetting that myths represent truths that are spiritual and philosophical, not historical events that can be used to justify acts of violence.--From publisher description.
