Book Jawaharlal Nehru s Philosophy of History

Download or read book Jawaharlal Nehru s Philosophy of History written by Jatin Abhir and published by Jatin Abhir. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the politics of twentieth century India, Jawaharlal Nehru is a familiar name. During the nine years he spent in prison, he wrote at length about Indian and world history. His ideas on history are not without distinction: he was the only major political leader of Asia or Africa to have written anything resembling a world history, for instance. The patterns and possibilities he saw in history were informed by what can be termed as his philosophy of history. He believed that how we write histories is directly related to the present we find ourselves in and the future we want to imagine. As such, a finer understanding of our past would not be possible without a more nuanced evaluation of our present and a more careful imagination of our future. The aim of this book is to understand Nehru in a new light as a philosopher of history by assembling his scattered reflections on the meaning of history and establishing a relationship between them. How did he argue for his specific historical-philosophical claims – and why?

Download or read book The Political Philosophy of Jawaharlal Nehru written by M.N. Das and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1961, The Political Philosophy of Jawaharlal Nehru is an attempt to coordinate Jawaharlal Nehru’s ideas which, in essence, reflect his political philosophy. Nehru distinguished himself as a philosopher-politician, thinking somewhat as a philosopher while working as a politician, steering his political ideas between idealism and realism. In an eventful life, his had been the many-sided role of a revolutionary and a nationalist, a democrat and a socialist, an internationalist and a pacifist, a head of the government and, above all, a lone individual and thinker. Nehru preserved his individuality through all external influences, including those of Gandhi and Marx, and it is this which remains the keynote of his thought. It has been the aim of the author to present in an objective way the ideas of the man in the light of his own words as available from a wide range of material. This book will be of interest to students of history, political science, and philosophy.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During these years, humanity is perhaps, living through the most dangerous period of all its history. The main cause of present tension and disorder is the lack of co-ordination between modern science and a spirit of humanism. These two factors should be seen as complementary to each other and whenever a proper co-ordination is kept between them, life become more pleasurable at the individual and social levels.Propagation of humanism is thus the remedy for the present crisis and also the promise for a bright future. But we are living in a period when humanism is regarded, if at all, as one of the lesser virtues. There were a handful of men who were deeply committed to humanism. Jawaharlal Nehru was one such personality. He regarded humanism as his God and service of mankind as his religion. As a humanist, he affirmed full faith in man and his socialist, secularist, democratic ideas, his passion for science & technology and his idea of peaceful co-existence among nations cannot be understood save in the context of his deep belief in man and in dignity of human existence. The present work is an attempt to bring about this humanistic implications found in the life and thought of Neh

Download or read book Minds Without Fear written by Nalini Bhushan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Minds Without Fear is an intellectual and cultural history of India during the period of British occupation. It demonstrates that this was a period of renaissance in India in which philosophy--both in the public sphere and in the Indian universities--played a central role in the emergence of a distinctively Indian modernity. This is also a history of Indian philosophy. It demonstrates how the development of a secular philosophical voice facilitated the construction of modern Indian society and the consolidation of the nationalist movement. Authors Nalini Bhushan and Jay Garfield explore the complex role of the English language in philosophical and nationalist discourse, demonstrating both the anxieties that surrounded English, and the processes that normalized it as an Indian vernacular and academic language. Garfield and Bhushan attend to both Hindu and Muslim philosophers, to public and academic intellectuals, to artists and art critics, and to national identity and nation-building. Also explored is the complex interactions between Indian and European thought during this period, including the role of missionary teachers and the influence of foreign universities in the evolution of Indian philosophy. This pattern of interaction, although often disparaged as "inauthentic" is continuous with the cosmopolitanism that has always characterized the intellectual life of India, and that the philosophy articulated during this period is a worthy continuation of the Indian philosophical tradition.

The first volume of Sarvepalli Gopal’s remarkable biographic, covering Nehru’s youth and ending with Independence in 1947, is written from first-hand knowledge of the man who served for ten years in the Ministry for External Affairs and from the unlimited access granted him by the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to her father’s private papers.
