Download or read book Automobile Industry Supply Chain in Thailand written by Munehiko Itoh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research focuses on the process of growth in the automobile industries in the ASEAN region. ASEAN is drawing attention both from the vantage point of its position as an automobile-producing region and as a potential automobile market. Thailand in particular has long treated automobile production as a national strategy, and this research puts considerable focus on Thailand's initiatives. Since 2012, the authors have been carrying out on-site surveys and have visited many of the suppliers that form the local automobile industry; this published research represents a summary of those findings. The fields of specialty of this study’s respective authors differ, so analyses have been made from a range of vectors. In particular, the focus is on the supply chain in what is generally referred to as a keiretsu.

Download or read book Introducing Foreign Models for Development written by Izumi Ohno and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book studies how foreign models of economic development can be effectively learned by and applied to today’s latecomer countries. Policy capacity and societal learning are increasingly stressed as pre-conditions for successful catch-up. However, how such learning should be initiated by individual societies with different features needs to be explained. The book answers this pragmatic question from the perspective of Japan’s past experience and its extensive development cooperation in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Since the late nineteenth century, Japan has developed a unique philosophy and method for adopting advanced technologies and systems from the West; the same philosophy and method govern its current cooperation with the developing world. The key concepts are local learning and translative adaptation. Local learning says that development requires the learner to adopt a proactive mindset and the goal of graduating from receiving aid. Meanwhile, translative adaptation requires foreign models be modified to fit local realities given the different structures of the home and foreign society. The development process must be wholly owned by the domestic society in rejection of copy-and-paste acceptance. These ideas not only informed Japan but are key to successful development for all. The book also asks how this learning method should—or should not—be revised in the age of SDGs and digitalization. Following the overview section that lays out the general principles, the book offers many real cases from Japan and other countries. The concrete actions outlined in these cases, with close attention to individual growth “ingredients” as opposed to general theories, are crucial to successful policy making. The book contains materials that are highly useful for national leaders and practitioners within developing countries as well as students of development studies.

Download or read book Protecting the Ozone Layer written by Stephen O. Andersen and published by Earthscan. This book was released on 2012 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1970s the world became aware of a huge danger: the destruction of the stratospheric ozone layer by CFCs escaping into the atmosphere, and the damage this could do to human health and the food chain. So great was the threat that by 1987 the UN had succeeded in coordinating an international treaty to phase out emissions; which, over the following 15 years has been implemented. It has been hailed as an outstanding success. It needed the participation of all the parties: governments, industry, scientists, campaigners, NGOs and the media, and is a model for future treaties. This volume provides the authoritative and comprehensive history of the whole process from the earliest warning signs to the present. It is an invaluable record for all those involved and a necessary reference for future negotiations to a wide range of scholars, students and professionals.

Download or read book 3000 Years of Karma Legacy An Indian Baniya Story written by KIM Moon-Young and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2021-10-22 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As per the findings of the Korean author, the Indian business community of Baniyas i.e. Marwaris, Gujaratis, Jains, and others has ruled the Indian economy world for ages. These Baniya merchant groups with their origins in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and around are merely 2% (about 2.5 million) of the Indian population, and currently run 8-9 out of 10 top conglomerates in India. The author has credited Indian Baniyas and their 3000 years of Karma legacy for making India the economic superpower of the world. These Indian Baniya groups are and will remain dominant not only in traditional sectors but also in the new generation industries like IT-enabled e-commerce and other services. The book talks about the sacrifices made by this community, which forms the part of the global G3 (Great 3) merchant groups including Jewish and Chinese merchants who own a major chunk of business activity across the world. It shares characteristics with Korea’s merchant community, Gaesung Merchants also. The book narrates the core competency of the Indian Baniyas and NRIs to address and prosper with this huge and prosperous country. The content of this is based on the South Korean author’s years of research and first-hand experience while staying in Ahmadabad and parts of North India.
Download or read book Overseas Energy Investment of Korea and Japan written by Seong-ik Oh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under the contraction of global energy supply brought on by geopolitical situation, this timely book addresses how resource-scarce developing countries respond to challenges in energy security. In particular, for countries underpinning efforts for an autonomous supply of energy, either oil/natural gas, nuclear power or renewable energy, this book revisits the evolution of overseas energy investment of two industrial giants in East Asia, Korea and Japan. It will provide meaningful lessons of how the state sets up policies and navigates political procedures for energy security. While a historical case study, it also offers its readers new insight into the international energy market by taking the stark déjà vu in its repetitive nature and putting it into context. The book provides an in-depth study highlighting the differences in political systems which led to contrasting outcomes. The one with a small number of veto players succeeded in establishing and expanding state-owned oil companies while producing policy inconsistency at the same time and vice versa. This comprehensive review of East Asian politics will add value to East Asian Studies by presenting a new approach through a universal theory rather than cultural uniqueness. As a readable case study on energy security, this book will be an essential reference for scholars, policymakers, industry insiders and citizens who are interested in how nations respond to historic challenges in a political and international context.
