It brings together Member States, industry, other stakeholders and WHO to implement a global approach to pandemic influenza preparedness and response. The Framework includes a benefit-sharing mechanism called the Partnership Contribution (PC). The PC is collected as an annual cash contribution from influenza vaccine, diagnostic, and pharmaceutical manufacturers that use the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS). Funds are allocated for: (a) pandemic preparedness capacity building; (b) response activities during the time of an influenza pandemic; and (c) PIP Secretariat for the management and implementation of the Framework. This report presents overall success metrics and infographics to illustrate progress in PIP Framework implementation. A progress report is published four times a biennium, and covers technical and financial implementation for the PIP PC High-Level Implementation Plan II (HLIP II), as well as the PIP Secretariat. Milestones are reported every six months and indicators are reported yearly. All data are presented cumulatively from the beginning of each biennium, in this case, 1 January 2020.
Download or read book Ownership written by Corey Rosen and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2022-09-13 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employee ownership creates stronger companies, helps workers build wealth, and fosters a fairer, more stable society. In this book, two leading experts show how it works-and how it can be greatly expanded. Wages don't cover the bills. Wealth inequality is growing. Social trust is eroding. There are endless debates about what to do, but one key factor is inexplicably left out: who owns the companies that drive the economy? Ownership matters. Ownership by a few means benefits for a few. But if you spread ownership around, you spread the benefits of capitalism around. Employee ownership lets workers build real wealth, not just pick up a paycheck. And it's a piece of the puzzle that's in plain sight. As Corey Rosen and John Case point out, there are already thousands of prosperous employee-owned companies. Rosen and Case explain why so many companies end up being owned by Wall Street shareholders or private equity firms-and why that kind of ownership encourages a focus on short-term profits rather than the long-term sustainability needed by employees, communities, and the environment. They show the limits of reform efforts that don't address the essential issue of who owns what. But the heart of the book is a deep dive into how employee ownership originated, how it works now, and what needs to be done to expand it. The book looks at how the idea is growing, both in the United States and around the world-and why all sides of the political spectrum support it. Rosen and Case offer a vivid portrait of a form of ownership that results in more prosperous workers, more responsible companies, and a fairer, more stable society.

Download or read book Plan Red written by Gordon G. Chang and published by Humanix Books. This book was released on 2024-10-01 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A much needed wake-up call that China assumes that it is open season on Americans." —Victor Davis Hanson "There is a Red Storm rising in the East—and America is already under assault from the Chinese Communist Party." —Lou Dobbs “THE EAST IS RISING AND THE WEST IS DECLINING” —Xi Jinping, 2020 Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, chairman of the Central Military Commission and the president of the People's Republic of China, wants to shape the world in China’s image, and in his conception of the world there is no place for the United States or even the current international order. Noted China analyst Gordon G. Chang warns that Xi Jinping believes he must destroy America to accomplish his objectives. And that Xi already has a plan to do it! Xi reveres Mao and is marching China back to Maoism. He is reinstituting totalitarian social controls, demanding absolute political obedience from everyone, and cutting foreign links. Closing China off from the world is an essential element of his plan to save the communist system. His isolationism and xenophobia evoke policies from the earliest years of the People’s Republic and during the two millennia of imperial rule. And Xi can’t stop talking about war. More significantly, he is implementing the largest military buildup since the Second World War, he is trying to sanctions-proof the Chinese regime, he is stockpiling grain and other commodities, he is surveying America for strikes and sabotage, he is mobilizing China’s civilians for battle, and he is purging China’s military of officers opposed to going to war. While America’s elite thinks their country is at peace, China’s regime is waging its brand of war. The Chinese regime has deliberately killed Americans in great numbers this century—with disease and in other ways—and it has a plan to destroy America. The communist party-state in fact believes it must eliminate the United States to ensure its own survival. And to accomplish its goals, the regime is now fast mobilizing to go to war. China is preparing to plunge the world into conflict. In PLAN RED: China's Project to Destroy America, Chang argues: China’s campaign against America excludes nothing and uses every point of contact with American society to destroy it. China has been attacking America from inside America! China’s penetration of American society has been so thorough that the Communist Party has been able to kill Americans with impunity Xi turned an in-country epidemic into a once-in-a-century pandemic. This is the first time in history that one nation has attacked all the others. The Communist Party is using all its resources to support criminal activity in America, and Americans are dying as a direct result of those activities. Xi Jinping’s China is preparing to go to war. Not just “unrestricted war” or political war but “hot war” or “kinetic war,” in other words, war as Americans see it in the movies. And China’s regime is planning to kill Americans in even greater numbers. It is marching the country to war. Americans, in the triumphalist mood after the fall of the Soviet Union, thought they should establish contacts with China. Now, the Chinese regime uses every point of contact against America, and at the moment the regime is overwhelming American institutions. The FBI is being overwhelmed, local law enforcement is being overwhelmed, governments at all levels are being overwhelmed, and private organizations are being overwhelmed. After more than three decades of intensive “engagement,” it is clear Washington’s generous approach has failed. America has not changed China, as everyone now realizes; China has changed America. Chang believes it is time to take a page from Ronald Reagan’s playbook and work to bring down the enemy: the Communist Party. The Communist Party often talks about “win-win” solutions, but as its actions make clear, it believes there can be only one survivor, either the People’s Republic of China or the United States of America. In this situation, there is only one solution: America needs to sever virtually every point of contact with the regime. As much as the United States wants to avoid war, China, for a host of internal reasons, is driving hard toward it. And should China ultimately choose war, the United States will almost certainly be in the fight. China has a plan to destroy America. Does America have a plan to defend itself?
Download or read book Djibouti written by International Monetary Fund. Middle East and Central Asia Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2019-10-23 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2019 Article IV Consultation with Djibouti discusses that large-scale infrastructure investments and a rapid expansion of trade and logistics activities have fueled strong growth in recent years. The government has in recent years implemented large-scale investments to develop transport and logistics infrastructures. Combined with business climate reforms, this development strategy has fueled strong growth and positioned Djibouti well to become a regional trade and logistics hub. The IMF staff’s baseline projections assume a significant reduction in debt financed public investment. Growth is nonetheless projected to remain strong, driven by the rapid expansion in Ethiopia’s trade and a pickup in private investment. Fostering higher and inclusive growth and bolstering the external position require addressing impediments to private sector investment and improving external competitiveness. Critical reforms include further enhancing the business environment, promoting competition, and improving the governance and efficiency of public enterprises to lower factor costs, particularly in the telecommunications and electricity sectors.
Download or read book New Polarizations and Old Contradictions The Crisis of Centrism written by Greg Albo and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2021-12-27 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Takes the buzzword "polarization" as its point of departure to describe the vast, and ever-growing economic inequality worldwide "Polarization" is a word commonly used by everyone from mainstream journalists to the person in the street, whatever their political stripe. But this widely recognized phenomenon deserves scrutiny. The 58th volume of the Socialist Register takes up the challenge, asking such questions as: Are the current tendencies towards polarization new, and if so, what is their significance? What underlying contradictions—between race, class, income, gender, and geopolitics—do the latest polarization trends expose? And to what extent can "centrist" politics continue to hold and contain these internal contradictions? This volume's original essays examine the escalating polarization of national, racial, generational, and other identities, all in the context of growing economic inequality, new forms of regional and urban antagonism, "vaccine nationalism," and the shifting parameters of rivalry between the "Great Powers."
Download or read book Covid 19 in Palestine written by Nadia Naser-Najjab and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-01-11 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Israel and Palestine were worlds apart during the pandemic that claimed over five million lives globally. While Palestinians were forced to adopt crude survival measures and endure economic privations, Israel was praised as a vaccination world leader. This book demonstrates how Israel utilized the pandemic to tighten surveillance and control over Palestine and the Palestinians. Drawing on theories of settler colonialism and the concept of 'necropolitics', the book is a vital testament to the reality of the Israeli settler colonial project today. The author uses case studies and interviews with Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, Hebron, Kufr Aqab and the Jalazoon refugee camp to understand the lived experiences of Palestinians. The newest colonial policies are discussed including how Israel activated a counter-terrorism database that could track citizens and ensure they adhered to lockdown regulations. It also shows how Israel destroyed Palestinian infrastructure essential for water, sanitation and hygiene, leaving Palestinians unable to fight the virus. The book shows that, for Palestinians, the pandemic was simply the latest in a long line of national catastrophes in a context where settler colonialism prevails.
Download or read book Cold Peace Avoiding the New Cold War written by Michael W. Doyle and published by Liveright Publishing. This book was released on 2023-04-25 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An urgent examination of the world barreling toward a new Cold War. By 1990, the first Cold War was ending. The Berlin Wall had fallen and the Warsaw Pact was crumbling; following Russia’s lead, cries for democracy were being embraced by a young Chinese populace. The post–Cold War years were a time of immense hope and possibility. They heralded an opportunity for creative cooperation among nations, an end to ideological strife, perhaps even the beginning of a stable international order of liberal peace. But the days of optimism are over. As renowned international relations expert Michael Doyle makes hauntingly clear, we now face the devastating specter of a new Cold War, this time orbiting the trilateral axes of Russia, the United States, and China, and exacerbated by new weapons of cyber warfare and more insidious forms of propaganda. Such a conflict at this phase in our global history would have catastrophic repercussions, Doyle argues, stymieing global collaboration efforts that are key to reversing climate change, preventing the next pandemic, and securing nuclear nonproliferation. The recent, devastating invasion of Ukraine is both an example and an augur of the costs that lay in wait. However, there is hope. Putin is not Stalin, Xi is not Mao, and no autocrat is a modern Hitler. There is also an unprecedented level of shared global interest in prosperity and protecting the planet from environmental disaster. While it is unlikely that the United States, Russia, and China will ever establish a “warm peace,” there are significant, reasonable compromises between nations that can lead to a détente. While the future remains very much in doubt, the elegant set of accords and non-subversion pacts Doyle proposes in this book may very well save the world.
Download or read book 21st Century Statecraft written by Nayef Al-Rodhan and published by Lutterworth Press. This book was released on 2022-07-28 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From civilisational frontier risks associated with new challenges like disruptive technologies, to the shifting nature of great-power conflicts and subversion, the 21st century requires a new approach to statecraft. In 21st-Century Statecraft, Professor Nayef Al-Rodhan proposes five innovative statecraft concepts. He makes the case for a new method of geopolitical analysis called 'meta-geopolitics', and for 'dignity-based governance'. He shows how, in an interdependent and interconnected world, traditional thinking must move beyond zero-sum games and focus on 'multi-sum and symbiotic realist' interstate relations. This requires a new paradigm of global security premised on five dimensions of security, and a new concept of power, 'just power', which highlights the centrality of justice to state interests. These concepts enable states to balance competing interests and work towards what the author calls 'reconciliation statecraft'. Throughout, Professor Al-Rodhan brings his philosophical and neuroscientific expertise to bear, providing a practical model for conducting statecraft in a sustainable way.
