Book Salafism in Lebanon

Download or read book Salafism in Lebanon written by Zoltan Pall and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-05 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past two decades have seen an increasing association between Lebanese Salafism and violence, with less attention being paid to Salafis who focus on peaceful proselytization. In reality, it is these Salafis whose influence has dramatically grown since the eruption of the Syrian conflict that profoundly affected Lebanon as well. Based on extensive fieldwork, Zoltan Pall offers insights into the dynamics of non-violent Lebanese Salafi groups and examines the importance of transnational links in shaping the trajectory of the movement. In particular, he shows how the internal transformation of Salafism in Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia led to the fragmentation of the Lebanese Salafi community. By analysing Salafism as a network, we see how the movement creates and mobilizes material and symbolic resources, and how it contributes to reshaping the structures of authority within the country's Sunni Muslim community.

Book Towards Understanding of Tadmuriyyah

Download or read book Towards Understanding of Tadmuriyyah written by Shaykh-Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and published by . This book was released on 2018-11-26 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tadmuriyyah is a treatise written by Ibn Taymiyyah. The famous scholar of Islam, who strives always against the Bid'ah (innovation) until the end of his life, yet he did not stop his journey to the truth. So it is not strange that he said "What could my enemies possibly do to me? My paradise is in my heart; wherever I go it goes with me, inseparable from me. For me, prison is a place of (religious) retreat; execution is my opportunity for martyrdom; and exile from my town is but a chance to travel." He has many books written in different fields of knowledge. This treatise discussed the Aqeedah; which included names and its attributes of Allah (¿); Shari'ah and Al-Qadar, which considers the vital part of Islamic religion. It is also one of the most important books use in Salafi to shape the Aqeedah. This treatise is about some answers related to Aqeedah given to the students of Tadmur. Here Ibn Taymiyyah indicates that it is obligatory for the seeker of Tawhid to firm believe on whatever Allah says about Himself and to deny whatever Allah denies about Himself; the duty of 'Ibad towards command is to obey, towards prohibition is to avoid, after that he should seek forgiveness from Allah(¿).This treatise has many explanations but Taqrib Tadmuriyyah is considered as one of the best among these explanations; given by Shaykh al-Uthaymeen.

Book The Place of Tolerance in Islam

Download or read book The Place of Tolerance in Islam written by Khaled Abou El Fadl and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2002-11-08 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Khaled Abou El Fadl, a prominent critic of Islamic puritanism, leads off this lively debate by arguing that Islam is a deeply tolerant religion. Injunctions to violence against nonbelievers stem from misreadings of the Qur'an, he claims, and even jihad, or so-called holy war, has no basis in Qur'anic text or Muslim theology but instead grew out of social and political conflict. Many of Abou El Fadl's respondents think differently. Some contend that his brand of Islam will only appeal to Westerners and students in "liberal divinity schools" and that serious religious dialogue in the Muslim world requires dramatic political reforms. Other respondents argue that theological debates are irrelevant and that our focus should be on Western sabotage of such reforms. Still others argue that calls for Islamic "tolerance" betray the Qur'anic injunction for Muslims to struggle against their oppressors. The debate underscores an enduring challenge posed by religious morality in a pluralistic age: how can we preserve deep religious conviction while participating in what Abou El Fadl calls "a collective enterprise of goodness" that cuts across confessional differences? With contributions from Tariq Ali, Milton Viorst, and John Esposito, and others.

Book Interpretations of Islam

Download or read book Interpretations of Islam written by Emmanuel Sivan and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of eight essays. Pp. 189-206, "Hating the Jew as an Arab" (not published previously), examines the popular negative image of the Jew and the Arab native in the eyes of the Pied Noirs (French settlers) in colonial Algeria. Discusses five stereotypic images - barbaric, impoverished, filthy, dishonest, and lecherous - expressed in popular literature, jokes, songs, and satiric feuilletons. The change in the Jews' civil and social status following the Crémieux Decree (1870) was highly resented. The settlers - including Spanish, Italian, and Maltese immigrants - were united in their hatred of Jews and Muslims, and in their belief in French cultural superiority.

Book Everyday Jihad

  • ISBN : 9780674025295
  • Pages : 354 pages

Download or read book Everyday Jihad written by Bernard Rougier and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As southern Lebanon becomes the latest battleground for Islamist warriors, Everyday Jihad plunges us into the sprawling, heavily populated Palestinian refugee camp at Ain al-Helweh, which in the early 1990s became a site for militant Sunni Islamists. A place of refuge for Arabs hunted down in their countries of origin and a recruitment ground for young disenfranchised Palestinians, the camp--where sheikhs began actively recruiting for jihad--situated itself in the global geography of radical Islam. With pioneering fieldwork, Bernard Rougier documents how Sunni fundamentalists, combining a literal interpretation of sacred texts with a militant interpretation of jihad, took root in this Palestinian milieu. By staying very close to the religious actors, their discourse, perceptions, and means of persuasion, Rougier helps us to understand how radical religious allegiances overcome traditional nationalist sentiment and how jihadist networks grab hold in communities marked by unemployment, poverty, and despair. With the emergence of Hezbollah, the Shiite political party and guerrilla army, at the forefront of Lebanese and regional politics, relations with the Palestinians will be decisive. The Palestinian camps of Lebanon, whose disarmament is called for by the international community, constitute a contentious arena for a multitude of players: Syria and Iran, Hezbollah and the Palestinian Authority, and Bin Laden and the late Zarqawi. Witnessing everyday jihad in their midst offers readers a rare glimpse into a microcosm of the religious, sectarian, and secular struggles for the political identity of the Middle East today.

Book The Columbia World Dictionary of Islamism

Download or read book The Columbia World Dictionary of Islamism written by Antoine Sfeir and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume features more than two thousand entries on the history of Islamism and Islamic countries. It provides a balanced account of events and organizations, as well as philosophers, activists, militants, and other prominent figures, and offers a window into a movement that has irrevocably changed both Muslim and Western societies. The Columbia World Dictionary of Islamism includes entries on the roots of Islamism and jihad in Africa, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Morocco, the Balkans, and the United States, among many other countries and locations. It profiles such key individuals as Louis Farrakhan; Tariq Ramadan; Algeria's Hassan Hattab, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood; Egypt's Hassan Al-Banna; and the leader of the Afghan Jombesh-i Melli Islami movement, Abdul Rashid Dostum. The dictionary uniquely examines this antimodern incarnation of Islam and its efforts to claim (or reclaim) Muslim society, families, and professional environments. It considers such questions as whether activist Islam is "terrorist" and if it can coexist with Western societies; whether terrorism can be justified by the Quran; and what are the components of an international Islam. Widely celebrated for his scholarship and expertise, Antoine Sfeir remains sensitive to the differences between Islam and Islamism and approaches the ideology from geopolitical, sociological, and historical perspectives.

It is the standing and everlasting miracle, but very rarely, have we heard how is it a miracle? The Qur'an is the ultimate miracle of our Prophet Muhammad (Sallahualaihi wassalam - S.A.W). It is such a miracle that all the other miracles are considered trivial and inconsequential compared to the Qur'an. This is because the Qur'an is so powerful, so bright and blinding that no matter how bright the other miracles are; when you have the sun, the stars become useless. In this book, Dr. Yasir Qadhi discussed on the miracles of the Qur'an that we either have never acknowledge or we often overlooked. The miracles of the Qur'an are endless and the points are abundance to be mentioned.
