Book J PSI Production Via Chi Sub C Decays in Fixed Target Proton nucleus Collisions

Download or read book J PSI Production Via Chi Sub C Decays in Fixed Target Proton nucleus Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decades, the mechanism of production of heavy quarkonium states has been the subject of research efforts involving both theoretical and experimental developments. Even though the predictions of the presently accepted models differ, the amount of experimental data does not allow for a determination of the best suited theory. The particular case of charmonium production in hadron collisions is an attractive test case as the charm is heavy enough to allow for perturbative calculations of the production process, and yet the cross sections involved are large enough so that events can be measured with good statistics. The data collected at the HERA-B detector after the HERA-II upgrade is analyzed and used to estimate the fraction of J/Psi produced via radiative Chi sub c decays. The result is compared to theoretical predictions and it is found to agree with calculations based on the color evaporation model and with the calculations using the non-relativistic quantum chromodynamics model.

Book Hadronic Production of J psi at Large chi sub F in 800 GeV P Cu and P Be Collisions

Download or read book Hadronic Production of J psi at Large chi sub F in 800 GeV P Cu and P Be Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The differential cross-section d[sigma]/dx[sub F] for J/[psi] production in 800 GeV proton-nucleus collisions has been measured in the kinematic range 0.30 [le] x[sub F] [le] 0.95 and x[sub F] [lt] p[perpendicular] [lt] 5 GeV through the decay mode J/[psi] [yields] [mu][sup +][mu][sup [minus]]. The nuclear dependence of J/[psi] production over this range was measured using copper and beryllium targets. The differential cross sections are in good agreement with the predictions of the symbolical parton duality model. The data show no evidence for an intrinsic charm component in the proton. The ratio of the differential cross sections for copper and beryllium shows a suppression of J/[psi] production in copper which increases with increasing x[sub F].

Book J sub Psi Production Tevatron and Fixed target Collisions

Download or read book J sub Psi Production Tevatron and Fixed target Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this talk the author shows the results of a fit of the NRQCD matrix elements to the CDF data for direct J/[psi] production, by including the radiative corrections to the g g[r-arrow][sup 3] S[sub 1][sup[1]] channel and the effect of the k[sub T]-smearing. Furthermore he performs the NLO NRQCD analysis of J/[psi] production in fixed-target proton-nucleon collisions and he fits the colour-octet matrix elements to the available experimental data. The results are compared to the Tevatron ones.

Book Charmonium Production in P A Collisions

Download or read book Charmonium Production in P A Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A review of J / [psi] and [psi]' production (charmonium) in proton-nucleus collisions is given including results from measurements at fixed target experiments at both Fermilab (E866/NuSea) and CERN (NA50) and some discussion of planned measurements at RHIC and NA60. The important physics that contributes to the large suppression in production of charmonium will be discussed as will be information from complementary measurements of open-charm production, and the Drell-Yan process. The differences in the results from Fermilab and CERN and the evolution of this physics to RHIC energies will be shown. The importance of a clear understanding of these effects in order to use J / [psi] suppression as a tool for study of the Quark-gluon plasma in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC will be highlighted.

This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have studied the production of the J/? and associated particles using the E672/E706 spectrometer at Fermilab. Preliminary results are presented from the first run in 1987--1988 with 530 GeV/c p/? and ?/sup −/ beams on a variety of nuclear targets. The A-dependance of J/? production with /pi//sup /minus// beam was found to agree with an A/sup ?/ parametrization with /alpha/ = 0.85 /plus minus/ 0.06 for X/sub F/ > 0.1. We have found that (41 /plus minus/ 22)% of the J//psi/'s produced in the p//pi//sup +/ beam are consistent with the radiative decay /chi/ /yields/J//psi/+?. The future analysis goals of the experiment are also discussed. 10 refs., 9 figs.

Book J psi Production and Absorption in P A and D Au Collisions

Download or read book J psi Production and Absorption in P A and D Au Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The level of 'anomalous' charmonium suppression in high-energy heavy-ion collisions and its interpretation as a signal of quark-gluon plasma formation requires a robust understanding of charmonium production and absorption in proton-nucleus collisions. In a previous study we have shown that, contrary to common belief, the so-called J/[psi] 'absorption cross section', [sigma]{sub abs}{sup J/[psi]}, is not a 'universal constant' but, rather, an effective parameter that depends very significantly on the charmonium rapidity and on the collision energy. Here we present ugraded Glauber calculations with the EPS09 parameterization of nuclear modifications of the parton densities. We confirm that the effective 'absorption cross section' depends on the J/{psi} kinematics and the collision energy. We also make further steps towards understanding the physics of the mechanisms behind the observed 'cold nuclear matter' effects.

Book J psi Physics at BEPC

Download or read book J psi Physics at BEPC written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J/psi physics is discussed which will be of interest at T> 1988, the period of operation of the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. Emphasis is placed on the gluonic states which are best studied in radiative J/psi decay. The difficulties of these studies are discussed and the need for very high statistics is stressed. In particular it is essential to partial-wave-analyze the hadronic final states produced in J/psi .-->. .gamma.X. An estimate using fixed target data suggests that 0(108) J/psi decays are needed to do an unambiguous partial wave analysis for hadron masses up to about 2 GeV. This requirement is an excellent match to the BEPC design parameters, which imply production of 0(108) J/psi's per year. With a J/psi production rate an order of magnitude greater than other electron-positron storage rings, BEPC will be a unique world facility for these studies. 58 references.
