Book It s Not Them It s You

Download or read book It s Not Them It s You written by Laura Sukorokoff and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2020-10-15 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do people quit their jobs? Not surprisingly, about half the people who quit do so because of their managers. The average cost of employee turnover in a company can be up to two times an employee’s yearly salary. High employee turnover is also costly to morale, the customers’ experience, and the overall revenue of a business. So, how can managers retain and engage their employees? The answer is simpler than might be expected. Ultimately, employees do not stay at their jobs because of fancy perks, costly value-adds, or even super-high salaries. They stay because they feel their manager respects them. And respect costs a manager nothing but a relatively small investment of time. In this book, you will learn the seven steps to solving retention and engagement issues in the workplace, with RESPECT at their core. 1. Develop a Relationship with the people on your team. 2. Have Empathy for those with whom you work. 3. Support the members of your team. 4. Promote the ideas of your team members. 5. Empower your team members to be great on their own terms. 6. Have Consideration for their feelings. 7. Trust them, and be trustworthy yourself. By utilizing the powerful tool presented in this book, these seven steps can be implemented immediately, and managers can improve just about any situation related to employee engagement and retention.

Book Thoughts for My Children

Download or read book Thoughts for My Children written by Frank Sanders and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-12-07 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My purpose in writing this short book is to share my thoughts with my loved ones, especially the children in my life. I hope these words will be a lasting legacy to my children and grandchildren as they grow up and after I am gone. None of these thoughts are original or insightful. They are simple truths and ideas. But young people seldom take the time to sit down and think about basic things. As people like me get older, we see young people make mistakes or suffer or destroy relationships and friendships over simple and obvious issues. I have often looked back and wished I had made some small things part of my approach much earlier in my life. I still often wish I could impart some time-gathered wisdom to my children and grandchildren to smooth their path, allow them to avoid mistakes, and give them a long-term perspective in this short-term, short-sighted world. This book is my effort to share some of what I have learned. These short chapters are not an exhaustive examination of the topics under discussion. Rather they are straight to the point and simple as a grandfather would make the point to a young person who is not excited about sitting down for a long discussion about "meaning of life" issues with Granddad. I hope the young people who read these words will get the gist. For those who need more depth, hopefully, these words will get the discussion started. I plan to share this book with my grandkids. I hope it will be of interest to them. But just as important, I hope this book will be read and appreciated by many grandparents who love their grandchildren. Maybe my words will give them a chance to have a short discussion with their own loved ones. They can share all or some of the points as they see fit. They can share my thoughts and add to them their own take. If they agree with me, this may be an easy way to share some truth and advice. If they disagree, this will be a good place to begin the conversation. I pray that once the habit of discussion with their grandchildren is established, they can share other thoughts that are important to them. God speed, Frank Sanders

Book Faith and Fortune

Download or read book Faith and Fortune written by Marc Gunther and published by Crown Currency. This book was released on 2004-10-12 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lately the headlines have delivered dispiriting news about wrongdoing and scandal in business. But behind the headlines lies a surprising, untold story: Corporate America is changing for the better. Faith and Fortune tells the stories of the extraordinary people who are leading the way and the admirable companies they have built. This book is called Faith and Fortune because faith provides the fuel that energizes these people as they strive to do business better and to find meaning in their work. Some have faith in God; others do not. But all have faith in the goodness of people and in the possibility of change. Most of all, they believe that corporations can become a powerful force for good in the world, and that they can—and should—serve people and not the other way around. Faith and Fortune argues that an exciting new model of conducting business is taking hold, not only in small, socially responsible companies like Ben & Jerry’s but inside such bulwarks of the Fortune 500 as Ford, Citigroup, and DuPont. Bit by bit, almost imperceptibly, this new model is replacing a century-old approach that was rooted in the industrial era and looked at business as a series of discrete, win-lose transactions: Executives tried to pay their workers and suppliers as little as possible, charge their customers as much as they could, and maximize their short-term profits. Today, by contrast, forward-thinking executives build their businesses by developing a network of long-lasting, win-win relationships. Great companies serve their workers, customers, shareholders, and the common good. Powerful forces are driving these changes, including the desire of companies to attract and engage their workforce, the emergence of the 1960s’ generation to positions of corporate power, the spirituality-in-the-workplace movement, the rise of social investing, and the growth and sophistication of activist groups. At once realistic and inspiring, Faith and Fortune profiles companies and people who represent the best of business and exemplify these new values. Among the stories told here: •UPS creates opportunities for immigrants and minorities, promotes from within, and provides its people with a much-valued sense of community •Southwest Airlines, the fun-loving airline, has built the concept of servant leadership into its storied culture •Starbucks provides stock options and health insurance even to part-time workers and builds sustainable business models for coffee growers in the developing world •Timberland has turned community services into a valuable corporate asset Other companies profiled here include Hewlett-Packard, Herman Miller, Staples, PepsiCo, Domini Social Investments, Tom’s of Maine, and Greyston Bakery. The book also includes a chapter exploring what the great religious traditions have to teach today’s businesspeople about creating sustainable enterprises and an analysis of the business case for corporate social responsibility. Faith and Fortune is a thoughtful, original, and important book that will reshape the debate about the role of business in America.
