Book The Zaitsev System

Download or read book The Zaitsev System written by Alexey Kuzmin and published by New In Chess. This book was released on 2016-12-30 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Zaitsev System is one of the most dynamic setups for Black in the ever popular Ruy Lopez chess opening. When Alexey Kuzmin joined the coaching staff of World Champion Anatoly Karpov in the 1980s he started analysing the Zaitsev System, and later continued his investigations as a second of Alexander Morozevich. For this book he has updated and improved his analysis, and found countless innovations that change the assessments of many lines. One of the drawbacks of the Zaitsev, some feel, is that White, if he wishes, can make a draw by repetition early on. To avoid this possibility, Kuzmin presents a brand-new weapon, which he calls the Saratov Variation, based on an early exchange on d4, that was never played by either Karpov or Morozevich. Kuzmin has written a practical guide for Black with extensive verbal explanations of the strategic ideas for both sides. His lucid style combined with ground-breaking analysis has resulted in a unique chess opening book: a guide that is suited for both club players and Grandmasters. Former World Champion Garry Kasparov once called the Zaitsev System ‘a revelation’. Kuzmin’s book, chock-full of novelties and presenting a most remarkable new plan for Black, can be called a revelation as well. Igor Zaitsev himself wrote a special introduction.

  • Author : Michael Myers
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-04-17
  • ISBN : 1468499572
  • Pages : 247 pages

Download or read book Doctors Marriages written by Michael Myers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In marriage, partners bring together preexisting psychological and cul tural histories which may be quite disparate. The idea that "love con quers all" does not account for the complexities involved in the development of a contemporary partnership. Societal changes over the past few decades have resulted in impor tant shifts in patterns of relationships. Lengthened life spans, decreased incidence and severity of illness and disability, and the availability of contraception have affected our lives and plans substantially. Among the effects are marriages that last longer than they ever have and produce fewer children, despite the high divorce rate. Values and expectations in marriage have also changed over the past several decades, shifting from an emphasis on survival and eco nomic security to a focus on companionship, love, and communication. The desire for self-fulfillment has superseded more traditional concerns about family loyalty Zlnd responsibility. Thus, divorce is often sought as a solution to frustration, disappointment, and conflict. A societal change that has had considerable influence on individ uals and their relationships has been the emergence of the women's movement and changing roles and expectations for women. This change has brought new demands, fulfillments, and conflicts. Current styles of marriage have shifted from an automatic acceptance of clearly designated gender-determined roles toward more egalitarian and interdependent relationships with partners also expressing their own goals, styles, and personalities. The dual career or dual worker family has emerged as the dominant family structure in the United States.

Book Crimes of Reason

  • Publisher : Rowman & Littlefield
  • Release : 2014-07-16
  • ISBN : 1442235764
  • Pages : 235 pages

Download or read book Crimes of Reason written by Stephen E. Braude and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-07-16 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crimes of Reason brings together expanded and updated versions of some of Braude’s best previously published essays, along with new essays written specifically for this book. Although the essays deal with a variety of topics, they all hover around a set of interrelated general themes. These are: the poverty of mechanistic theories in the behavioral and life sciences, the nature of psychological explanation and (at least within the halls of the Academy) the unappreciated strategies required to understand behavior, the nature of dissociation, and the nature and limits of human abilities. Braude’s targets include memory trace theory, inner-cause theories of human behavior generally, Sheldrake’s theory of morphogenetic fields, widespread but simplistic views on the nature of human abilities, multiple personality and moral responsibility, the efficacy of prayer, and the shoddy tactics often used to discredit research on dissociation and parapsychology. Although the topics are often abstract and the issues deep, their treatment in this book is accessible, and the tone of the book is both light and occasionally combative.
