Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The creator of the Instagram sensation But Like Maybe takes us on an illustrated journey through her worst dating mistakes—a hilarious, hopeful guide to what you need to get wrong in love before you get it right. Arianna Margulis’s pen was set aflame when a boyfriend took her for a walk in Central Park. She was sneak-attack dumped because she “interfered with his meditation schedule.” After a few sobs, she found her way to a Sharpie, doodled the hilarity and the heartbreak, and But Like Maybe was born. As her cartoons became an Instagram cult hit, Arianna chronicled her misadventures through modern love via a crop-topped doppelganger, equal parts optimistic and anxious, who holds tight to the belief that bae is out there. Now, with 70 never-before-seen toons, her first book is a witty and winning primer on what not to do when dating. Inspired by all the ways Arianna’s gone wrong in her search for love, from planning matching outfits with her high school boyfriend without his knowledge to deplaning an aircraft because her crush texted, this charming and off-kilter anti-guide gently leads you to what matters: realizing that you’re already pretty awesome. With plenty of advice for recognizing and moving on when he’s just not that into you, Arianna shows how to not let a read receipt ruin your night, what to do when the slow fade commences, and how to flip the busy script on a guy. Dating can make the best of us a bit crazy. Keep this guide by your side so that the next time tequila urges you to text your ex, you can instead tell yourself . . . but like maybe don’t.

Book Thrive

Download or read book Thrive written by Arianna Huffington and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2014-03-25 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Thrive, Arianna Huffington makes an impassioned and compelling case for the need to redefine what it means to be successful in today's world. Arianna Huffington's personal wake-up call came in the form of a broken cheekbone and a nasty gash over her eye--the result of a fall brought on by exhaustion and lack of sleep. As the cofounder and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group--one of the fastest growing media companies in the world--celebrated as one of the world's most influential women, and gracing the covers of magazines, she was, by any traditional measure, extraordinarily successful. Yet as she found herself going from brain MRI to CAT scan to echocardiogram, to find out if there was any underlying medical problem beyond exhaustion, she wondered is this really what success feels like? As more and more people are coming to realize, there is far more to living a truly successful life than just earning a bigger salary and capturing a corner office. Our relentless pursuit of the two traditional metrics of success--money and power--has led to an epidemic of burnout and stress-related illnesses, and an erosion in the quality of our relationships, family life, and, ironically, our careers. In being connected to the world 24/7, we're losing our connection to what truly matters. Our current definition of success is, as Thrive shows, literally killing us. We need a new way forward. In a commencement address Arianna gave at Smith College in the spring of 2013, she likened our drive for money and power to two legs of a three-legged stool. They may hold us up temporarily, but sooner or later we're going to topple over. We need a third leg--a third metric for defining success--to truly thrive. That third metric, she writes in Thrive, includes our well-being, our ability to draw on our intuition and inner wisdom, our sense of wonder, and our capacity for compassion and giving. As Arianna points out, our eulogies celebrate our lives very differently from the way society defines success. They don't commemorate our long hours in the office, our promotions, or our sterling PowerPoint presentations as we relentlessly raced to climb up the career ladder. They are not about our resumes--they are about cherished memories, shared adventures, small kindnesses and acts of generosity, lifelong passions, and the things that made us laugh. In this deeply personal book, Arianna talks candidly about her own challenges with managing time and prioritizing the demands of a career and raising two daughters--of juggling business deadlines and family crises, a harried dance that led to her collapse and to her "aha moment." Drawing on the latest groundbreaking research and scientific findings in the fields of psychology, sports, sleep, and physiology that show the profound and transformative effects of meditation, mindfulness, unplugging, and giving, Arianna shows us the way to a revolution in our culture, our thinking, our workplace, and our lives.

NAMED A BEST GIFT BOOK OF THE YEAR BY: Instyle, Oprah Daily, Business Insider, Esquire, Boston Globe, and Redbook Revered as much for her fierce spirit as she is for her art, Frida Kahlo stands today as a feminist symbol of daring creativity. Her paintings have earned her admirers around the world, but perhaps her greatest work of art was her own life. What Would Frida Do? celebrates this icon’s signature style, outspoken politics, and boldness in love and art—even in the face of hardship and heartbreak. (Young Adult category) / 2016 Christy Award Finalist (First novel category) Like all citizens since the Ruining, Carrington Hale knows the importance of this day. But she never expected the moment she’d spent a lifetime preparing for—her Choosing ceremony—to end in disaster. Ripped from her family, she’ll spend her days serving as a Lint, the lowest level of society. She knows it’s her duty to follow the true way of the Authority. But as Carrington begins this nightmare, rumors of rebellion rattle her beliefs. Though the whispers contradict everything she’s been told, they resonate deep within. Then Carrington is offered an unprecedented chance at the life she’s always dreamed of, yet she can’t shake the feeling that it may be an illusion. With a killer targeting Lints and corruption threatening the highest levels of the Authority, Carrington must uncover the truth before it destroys her. The Calling: Remko Brant had never been so sure of anything as escaping the Authority City with Carrington Hale. But bravado comes easy when you have nothing to lose. Now a husband, father, and the tactical leader of the Seers, Remko has never had so much at risk. As he and his team execute increasingly dangerous rescue missions inside the city, they face growing peril from a new enemy. Recently appointed Authority President Damien Gold claims to be guiding a city shaken by rebellion into a peaceful, harmonious future. But appearances can be deceiving. In order to achieve his dangerous ambitions, Gold knows he must do more than catch the rebels—he must destroy the hope their message represents . . . from the inside out. With dissension in his own camp—and the CityWatch soldiers closing in—Remko feels control slipping through his fingers. To protect those he loves, he must conquer his fears and defeat Gold . . . before one of them becomes his undoing. The Returning: Twenty years have passed since Carrington and Remko Brant’s baby, Elise, was kidnapped and they were forced to leave her captive in the Authority City. Though they fled with the Seers far from Authority reach, they’ve never given up hope of rescuing their daughter from the man who betrayed them. Now Authority President, he’s ushered the city into a new era of “peace”—one where the Scientist Roth Reynard’s Genesis Serum has eradicated all memory of emotion or rebellion. But the mysterious Aaron and his Seers are once again on the move, threatening the illusion the Authority has worked so hard to build. As the Seers send seven chosen warriors to rescue Elise and bring restoration to the Authority City, the lines are drawn for a final battle between light and darkness. The key to ultimate victory may rest within the strangely powerful girl who has felt forgotten but was never abandoned—a truth she’ll need to wage war against the powerful forces of evil.

One by one, her life was falling apart. That’s when Hayden accepted that she’d have to sell her farm and move on. Unfortunately, the only offer she had was from a man she hated. Just one month ago, she’d told him that she wouldn’t sell her land to him. Wasn’t it funny (horrible!) how life played games? Viktor thought that the lovely garden nursery owner was amazing. So when she’d come back to him with an offer to sell her land to him, he wasn’t buying. Nope – he offered marriage instead. When the lovely lady quickly rejected his offer, he decided it was time to show her that he was serious. As a man always in charge, he was determined to get his way on this negotiation. Little did he know that Hayden wasn’t one to give in so easily. Spanish Passions – Natalie Four years ago, Natalie had fallen head over heals in love with Javier. She didn’t care that he was wealthy, that he lived in a castle or that he was a member of the Spanish aristocracy. She just loved HIM! But forces intervened and Natalie was banished. She tried to contact Javier, to let him know that she’d conceived a child, but no word was forthcoming. So after their heated affair, where Natalie lost her heart, she moved back to Lisdeer, Virginia, finished college and gave birth to her son, Alejandro. She got a teaching job and moved on with her life. Four years later, Javier came back into her life. He wanted Natalie, but on different terms. Natalie refused, furious with him for abandoning her as he had. But she soon found out that Javier hadn’t known about their child. Even so, could she trust him again? She’d been so hurt and bewildered by his betrayal the last time, how could she give him a second chance. Unfortunately, the chemistry was still there, burning just as hot as before. Maybe even hotter. So when Javier took Natalie into his arms, she couldn’t stop the need his touch incited. It was a long road back to trusting each other. Could they do it? And who was telling the truth? The Russian’s Proposal - Katia Katia couldn’t believe it when the scarred and scary stranger proposed! But after Sergei explained, Katia was fully on board. His plan would put her vicious, evil father in prison for the rest of his life – a place he should have been years ago. But what hadn’t been in the plan was falling in love with Sergei. He wasn’t just scarred, he was strong and unbelievably compassionate. He was good and kind and determined. And yet, gentle and sweet. How could she not fall in love with her gentle giant? One Night with the Sheik - Arianna Arianna had to find her father. He’d disappeared in the desert country of Triar – which is where she started her search. Unfortunately, some unfinished business with the Sheik of Triar slowed her investigation. Rhys Sabad del Isolm, Sheik of Triar discovered that the lovely Arianna Callas was back in his country. The last time he’d seen the gorgeous, stubborn woman was almost a year ago and their ending had been…unsatisfying. Time to change that ending. Except that Arianna isn’t ready to re-visit the past. In fact, she’d like to avoid discussing the past and had absolutely no intention of any sort of relationship in the future! Unfortunately, Rhys had the resources that could expedite her father’s rescue. She’d have to play nice for a while – and keep the man at arm’s distance. That was her intention at least. Rhys wasn’t really the kind of man who allowed distance. And as they investigated her father’s disappearance together, Arianna wondered if she really wanted that distance.

Book RAISING RACE CONSCIOUSNESS

Download or read book RAISING RACE CONSCIOUSNESS written by Audrye S. Arbe and published by Digital 1 Publishing . This book was released on 2019-04-30 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What propelled me to write this book? In addition to being nudged by Spirit and my own Inner Guidance, I took a look around. What is this fixation on race, sex, gender, religion, class that preoccupies so many of our species? Where is our plentiful joy and wonder at the magnificence of Creation? More importantly, what can we do about any lack of wonder? Who are we, anyway, and why are we here? Personally, I am fascinated by the diversity and combinations in which we humans flourish — with our multitude of talents, looks and abilities. I love our creativity, our amazingly diverse yet similar energies and vibrations. To me, this variety is something to be honored and treasured, a reflection of the artistry and abundance of Creation. Despite the beauty that exists within diversity – racial, sexual, gender, and so on -- some of us appear to feel, believe and act as if our variety is an issue, going so far as to behave inimically toward others who outwardly "look or seem different.” From where do these attitudes stem and where do these perceptions lead? Is separation along color/sex/gender/religious lines what an-yone truly desires in the core of his/her being? It is indicative of a culture with distorted ideas about race that people can even figure out what looking alike and looking different mean. How are these differences of coloration interpreted? In a culture that loved our multiplicity of being, we would have a different conception of alike and different, as well as different feelings and vibrations within ourselves. We are in a new millennium. We have the time-space-place-resonance to be the enlightened beings that we are. The choice is open to each and every one of us.
