Book The Innovation Journey of Wi Fi

Download or read book The Innovation Journey of Wi Fi written by Wolter Lemstra and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-18 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wi-Fi has become the preferred means for connecting to the internet - at home, in the office, in hotels and at airports. Increasingly, Wi-Fi also provides internet access for remote communities where it is deployed by volunteers in community-based networks, by operators in 'hotspots' and by municipalities in 'hotzones'. This book traces the global success of Wi-Fi to the landmark change in radio spectrum policy by the US FCC in 1985, the initiative by NCR Corporation to start development of Wireless-LANs and the drive for an open standard IEEE 802.11, released in 1997. It also singles out and explains the significance of the initiative by Steve Jobs at Apple to include Wireless-LAN in the iBook, which moved the product from the early adopters to the mass market. The book explains these developments through first-hand accounts by industry practitioners and concludes with reflections and implications for government policy and firm strategy.

This book provides a complete conceptual treatment of securing information and transporting it over a secure network in a manner that does not require a strong mathematical background. It stresses why information security is important, what is being done about it, how it applies to networks, and an overview of its key issues. It is written for anyone who needs to understand these important topics at a conceptual rather than a technical level.

Book Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks

Download or read book Mobile and Wireless Communications Networks written by Elizabeth M. Belding-Royer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-08-17 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs) has attracted great research interest in recent years. A Mobile Ad Hoc Network is a self-organizing multi-hop wireless network where all hosts (often called nodes) participate in the routing and data forwarding process. The dependence on nodes to relay data packets for others makes mobile ad hoc networks extremely susceptible to various malicious and selfish behaviors. This point is largely overlooked during the early stage of MANET research. Many works simply assume nodes are inherently cooperative and benign. However, experiences from the wired world manifest that the reverse is usually true; and many works [3] [10] [9] [8] [12] [19] have pointed out that the impact of malicious and selfish users must be carefully investigated. The goal of this research is to address the cooperation problem and related security issues in wireless ad hoc networks. As a rule of thumb, it is more desirable to include security mechanisms in the design phase rather than continually patching the system for security breaches. As pointed out in [2] [1], there can be both selfish and malicious nodes in a mobile ad hoc network. Selfish nodes are most concerned about their energy consumption and intentionally drop packets to save power. The purpose of malicious nodes, on the other hand, is to attack the network using various intrusive techniques. In general, nodes in an ad hoc network can exhibit Byzantine behaviors.

Book Challenges for Next Generation Network Operations and Service Management

Download or read book Challenges for Next Generation Network Operations and Service Management written by Yan Ma and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-10-16 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th We are delighted to present the proceedings of the 11 Asia-Paci?c Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS 2008) which was held in Beijing, China, during October 22–24, 2008. TheOrganizingCommittee(OC)selectedthethemeofthisyear’ssymposium as “Challenges for Next-Generation Network Operations and Service Mana- ment. ” Research and development on next-generation networks (NGNs) have been carried out over the last few years and we are already seeing their - ployment and operations in many parts of Asia-Paci?c countries. We are also beginning to experience new and interesting services that utilize these NGNs. We are certain that we will see more deployment of NGNs and NGN services in the next few years. Thus, the operations and management of NGNs and their services are very important to the network operators and service providers. At the same time, they are also concerned about new and more e?ective ways of performing the operations and management. This year, the APNOMS call for papers received 195 paper submissions from 19di?erentcountries,includingcountriesoutsidetheAsia-Paci?cregion(Europe, Middle-East, North and South America). Each paper was carefully reviewed by at least three international experts. Based on review scores, the APNOMS 2008 Technical ProgramCommittee discussed the selection of papers, and selected 43 high-quality papers (22. 1% of submissions) as full papers and 34 papers as short papers. Accepted papers were arrangedinto ten technical sessions and two short paper sessions (poster presentation).

Book Single Valued Neutrosophic Techniques for Analysis of WIFI Connection

Download or read book Single Valued Neutrosophic Techniques for Analysis of WIFI Connection written by Said Broumi and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless ad hoc network (WANET) is self-configured networking. It does not rely on pre-existing routers or access points. Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is an application of WANET where mobile devices are connected wirelessly without any infrastructure. Such networks are either considered as truly connected, not connected and may disconnected due to noise in network or some other uncertainty in connectivity. In this case, characterizing the truth, indeterminacy and falsity information communicated in the mobile network is difficult while utilizing the traditional mathematical set theories. To resolve this issue, in current paper authors’ focus on estimating information processing in MANET via mathematics algebra of Single-Valued Neutrosophic Set (SVNS). In addition, an example is given for better understanding of MANET in the neutrosophic environment.

Book Resource Management in Wireless Networking

Download or read book Resource Management in Wireless Networking written by Mihaela Cardei and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-07-06 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the pattern of the Internet growth in popularity, started in the early 1990s, the current unprecedented expansion of wireless technology promises to have an even greater effect on how people communicate and interact, with considerable socio-economic impact all over the world. The driving force behind this growth is the remarkable progress in component miniaturization, integration, and also devel- ments in waveforms, coding, and communication protocols. Besides established infrastructurebased wireless networks (cellular, WLAN, sat- lite) ad-hoc wireless networks emerge as a new platform for distributed applications and for personal communication in scenarios where deploying infrastructure is not feasible. In ad-hoc wireless networks, each node is capable of forwarding packets on behalf of other nodes, so that multi-hop paths provide end-to-end connectivity. The increased flexibility and mobility of ad-hoc wireless networks are favored for appli- tions in law enforcement, homeland defense and military. In a world where wireless networks become increasingly interoperable with each other and with the high-speed wired Internet, personal communication systems will transform into universal terminals with instant access to variate content and able of handle demanding tasks, such as multimedia and real-time video. With users roaming between networks, and with wide variation in wireless link quality even in a single domain, the communications terminal must continue to provide a level of Quality of Service that is acceptable to the user and conforms to a contracted Service Level Agreement.
