Download or read book Precision Nanometrology written by Wei Gao and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-14 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Precision Nanometrology describes the new field of precision nanometrology, which plays an important part in nanoscale manufacturing of semiconductors, optical elements, precision parts and similar items. It pays particular attention to the measurement of surface forms of precision workpieces and to stage motions of precision machines. The first half of the book is dedicated to the description of optical sensors for the measurement of angle and displacement, which are fundamental quantities for precision nanometrology. The second half presents a number of scanning-type measuring systems for surface forms and stage motions. The systems discussed include: • error separation algorithms and systems for measurement of straightness and roundness, • the measurement of micro-aspherics, • systems based on scanning probe microscopy, and • scanning image-sensor systems. Precision Nanometrology presents the fundamental and practical technologies of precision nanometrology with a helpful selection of algorithms, instruments and experimental data. It will be beneficial for researchers, engineers and postgraduate students involved in precision engineering, nanotechnology and manufacturing.

Book excerpt: Mechanical Design Engineering Handbook is a straight-talking and forward-thinking reference covering the design, specification, selection, use and integration of machine elements fundamental to a wide range of engineering applications. Develop or refresh your mechanical design skills in the areas of bearings, shafts, gears, seals, belts and chains, clutches and brakes, springs, fasteners, pneumatics and hydraulics, amongst other core mechanical elements, and dip in for principles, data and calculations as needed to inform and evaluate your on-the-job decisions. Covering the full spectrum of common mechanical and machine components that act as building blocks in the design of mechanical devices, Mechanical Design Engineering Handbook also includes worked design scenarios and essential background on design methodology to help you get started with a problem and repeat selection processes with successful results time and time again. This practical handbook will make an ideal shelf reference for those working in mechanical design across a variety of industries and a valuable learning resource for advanced students undertaking engineering design modules and projects as part of broader mechanical, aerospace, automotive and manufacturing programs. - Clear, concise text explains key component technology, with step-by-step procedures, fully worked design scenarios, component images and cross-sectional line drawings all incorporated for ease of understanding - Provides essential data, equations and interactive ancillaries, including calculation spreadsheets, to inform decision making, design evaluation and incorporation of components into overall designs - Design procedures and methods covered include references to national and international standards where appropriate
Download or read book Metal Matrix Composites in Industry written by Alexander Evans and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metal matrix composites are making tangible inroads into the "real" world of engineering. They are used in engineering components such as brake rotors, aircraft parts, combustion engines, and heat sinks for electronic systems. Yet, outside a relatively limited circle of specialists, these materials are mostly unknown. Designers do not as a rule think of using these materials, in part because access to information is difficult as these materials have not really entered engineering handbooks. Metal Matrix Composites in Industry is thus useful to engineers who wish to gain introductory knowledge of these materials and who want to know where "to find" them. Additionally, it provides researchers and academics with a survey of current industrial activity in this area of technology.

Download or read book An Introduction to Acoustical Holography written by B. Hildebrand and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first papers by E. N. Leith and J. Upatnieks on the subject of holography appeared in 1961, there has been a virtual explosion of research activity in the field. More than 500 papers and articles on holo graphy have appeared in the last ten years. Many applications of holo graphy have been proposed, and some of these are beginning to enter the realm of usefulness. One of the applications that appears to hold great promise is acoustic imaging by means of holography. The first papers on this subject appeared in 1966, but already research activity in the field is burgeoning. Three symposia wholly devoted to acoustical holography have been held and the papers published in book form. The purposeof this book is to bring together the results of research in acoustical holography, some of it as yet unpublished, under one cover so that workers in holography, nondestructive testing, medical imaging, underwater imaging, and seismic exploration can decide whether this new technique can be useful to them.
