Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This tribute is a journey through the life of Bonefish Bob (Robert E. Berger) from his tour of duty in Korea to York, Maine, to Islamorada, Florida, and to Ennis, Montana. His childhood, full of hunting and the sea, did not prepare him for the Korean War. A traumatic battle near the end of the war leaves him with unspoken memories. From the oral accounts of friends and family, Bob's exploits become legendary in Maine. His practical jokes, fishing expertise, and friendships lead him to danger and good fortune. His persona grows in Islamorada, Florida, where he opens Bonefish Bob's Ye Old Tackle Shop with Jan Wood, his companion of many years. Bonefish Bob tantalizes, cajoles, and mesmerizes clients, family, and friends with hilarious pranks, folklore, and thrilling fishing expeditions stalking bonefish and tarpon. Jimmy Buffett once described Bob as Santa Claus with big feet. The Florida summers eventually drive Bob and Jan to a little cabin in Ennis, Montana. A miraculous happenstance on the Upper Missouri River brings Bob's past into clear focus on one of his solitary fishing ventures. This act of Providence was the inspiration for this book. About the Author: Bernard F.Blanche of Souderton, Pennsylvania, taught high school English for thirty years. He served in the Peace Corps in Brazil, has written articles, and has given motivational speeches. His son, Stephen, introduced the intriguing Robert E. Berger to him. Book excerpt: "It'll do you good to relax and get away from it all," they'd said. What they didn't understand was 'it all' was all that was keeping me together. Even strong women stumble when the rug is pulled out from under them. Two weeks alone with my thoughts-and an unlimited drinks package-might kill me.Being the forlorn divorcee in a tropical resort sounded about as far from paradise as I could imagine. But knowing that Chuck would be footing half the bill after he'd traded me in for a newer model was reason enough to take the trip.Good thing the persuasive dive shop owner offered the perfect distraction when he convinced me to try scuba diving again. I hadn't done it-or most anything else that I loved and Chuck didn't-since my honeymoon. And, added bonus, Gavin was a Caribbean Irish god. Scuba diving wasn't the only thing he helped me rediscover. Maybe a vacation rebound was just what I needed--if it didn't break my already fractured heart.

  • Pages : 130 pages

Download or read book Key Largo written by Brad Bertelli and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Key Largo is a subtropical escape. The island's history has been shaped by coral reefs as well as wreckers, farmers, and fishermen. Key Largo was homesteaded by intrepid families who braved life before the modern conveniences of running water, air-conditioning, and mosquito control were introduced. Inevitably, big changes were coming. Henry Flagler's Key West Extension changed the Florida Keys; hurricanes, too, have altered life here, especially the Great Labor Day Hurricane of 1935, the strongest storm ever recorded in the United States. Since then, the island has been immortalized in movie and song, but modern Key Largo has been defined by fishing and diving, which led to the development of the hospitality industry that dominates today. This book reveals Key Largo's other facets: the coral castle, underwater park, pineapple farmers, and artists that carved their history on this island.

Book Foundations of Knowledge Base Management

Download or read book Foundations of Knowledge Base Management written by Joachim W. Schmidt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past, applied artificial intelligence systems were built with particular emphasis on general reasoning methods intended to function efficiently, even when only relatively little domain-specific knowledge was available. In other words, AI technology aimed at the processing of knowledge stored under comparatively general representation schemes. Nowadays, the focus has been redirected to the role played by specific and detailed knowledge, rather than to the reasoning methods themselves. Many new application systems are centered around knowledge bases, i. e. , they are based on large collections offacts, rules, and heuristics that cap ture knowledge about a specific domain of applications. Experience has shown that when used in combination with rich knowledge bases, even simple reasoning methods can be extremely effective in a wide variety of problem domains. Knowledge base construction and management will thus become the key factor in the development of viable knowledge-based ap plications. Knowledge Base Management Systems (KBMSs) are being proposed that provide user-friendly environments for the construction, retrieval, and manipUlation of large shared knowledge bases. In addition to deductive reasoning, KBMSs require operational characteristics such as concurrent access, integrity maintenance, error recovery, security, and perhaps distribution. For the development ofKBMSs, the need to integrate concepts and technologies from different areas, such as Artificial Intel ligence, Databases, and Logic, has been widely recognized. One of the central issues for KBMSs is the framework used for knowledge representation-semantic networks, frames, rules, and logics are proposed by the AI and logic communities.

Book excerpt: George Hommell Jr. shares a remarkable memoir surrounding his life and adventures as a Florida Keys fishing guide, and trailblazer in the world of flats fishing. A pioneer in a bygone era, Hommell helped perfect the techniques and ethics of flats fishing and raising awareness of conservation needs, as well as rules and regulations, through both guiding and World Wide Sportsman, the business he cofounded. A fishing guide extraordinaire, he was sought by numerous celebrities including Jack Nicklaus, Ted Williams, and the man that would become his lifelong friend and fishing partner, President George H. W. Bush. These lighthearted stories capture the heart and soul of an honest man with an adventurous spirit and a deep respect for the environment in which he worked. Whether facing sunny skies or sudden heavy storms, he learned how to map the best times and places to find fish in the vast Everglades and Florida Bay, giving his clients the best experience and the opportunity to catch loads of fish. For fans of Lefty Kreh, Stu Apte, and Flip Pallot, these honest and often humorous true tales will inspire you to get out on a boat and cast a line.
