Book Four Views on Creation Evolution and Intelligent Design

Download or read book Four Views on Creation Evolution and Intelligent Design written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolution--or the broader topic of origins--has enormous relevance to how we understand the Christian faith and how we interpret Scripture. Four Views on Creation, Evolution, and Intelligent Design presents the current "state of the conversation" about origins among evangelicals representing four key positions: Young Earth Creationism - Ken Ham (Answers in Genesis) Old Earth (Progressive) Creationism - Hugh Ross (Reasons to Believe) Evolutionary Creation - Deborah B. Haarsma (BioLogos) Intelligent Design - Stephen C. Meyer (The Discovery Institute) The contributors offer their best defense of their position addressing questions such as: What is your position on origins - understood broadly to include the physical universe, life, and human beings in particular? What do you take to be the most persuasive arguments in defense of your position? How do you demarcate and correlate evidence about origins from current science and from divine revelation? What hinges on answering these questions correctly? This book allows each contributor to not only present the case for his or her view, but also to critique and respond to the critiques of the other contributors, allowing you to compare their beliefs in an open forum setting to see where they overlap and where they differ.

Download or read book In Six Days written by John Ashton and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why would any educated scientist with a PhD advocate a literal interpretation of the six days of creation? Why, indeed, when only one in three Americans believes "the Bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally, word for word" according to a recent Gallup poll. Science can neither prove nor disprove evolution any more than it can creation. Certainly there are no human eyewitness accounts of either. However, certain factors are present today which are capable of swaying one's beliefs one way or the other. In this book are the testimonies of fifty men and women holding doctorates in a wide range of scientific fields who have been convicted by the evidence to believe in a literal six-day creation. For example, meet: The geneticist who concludes that there must have been 150 billion forerunners of "modern man" in order for the natural selection required by evolution to have taken place in the development of man. The evidence for such vast numbers of "prehistoric man" is in dire shortage. The orthodontist who discovered that European museum fossils of ancient man have been tampered with to adhere to evolution theories. The geologist who studied under the late Stephen Jay Gould and literally cut the Bible to pieces before totally rejecting evolution. All fifty of these scientists, through faith and scientific fact, have come to the conclusion that God's Word is true and everything had its origin not so very long ago, in the beginning, In Six Days.

Book God s Word Or Human Reason

Download or read book God s Word Or Human Reason written by Jonathan Kane and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God gave humans the ability to reason, but the Bible commands that we have faith in Him. According to Answers in Genesis, the largest and most influential creationist organization in the United States, the conclusions of human reason must be rejected if they contradict our understanding of the Bible. What are the implications of this worldview, and is it the best one for a Christian to live by?? In God's Word or Human Reason?, five former young-Earth creationists explore the topics of science and Biblical exegesis with the goal of showing that the scientific method does more to glorify God than to denigrate Him. Instead of providing a broad-level overview of the evidence for evolution and an old Earth, this book takes a new approach that considers the detailed expanse of creationist technical literature. The six main chapters provide an in depth examination of these arguments in a few key areas, including stratigraphy, radiometric dating, the origins of birds and of humans, and the meaning of the book of Genesis.? Although all five authors once were young-Earth creationists, today they represent a diversity of beliefs: two atheists, two Christians, and one deist. Each has included a personal account of their experiences growing up or participating in the creationist community, as well as the factors that played into their eventually leaving. As an interfaith project, God's Word or Human Reason? represents the common ground that people of many religious affiliations can find in their appreciation of reason as a means to understand the world.

Book Faith God And Modern Science

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert Haggard
  • Publisher : Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
  • Release : 2018-02-16
  • ISBN : 1641403055
  • Pages : 136 pages

Download or read book Faith God And Modern Science written by Robert Haggard and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-02-16 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We, the human race, are creatures of faith. We base the living of our lives on some set of beliefs that we take as the bottom-line foundations to answer to the questions of why we are here and how to live successfully while we are here and hereafter. Okay, here is the basic question. Did God create the universe pretty much as we see it today in seven calendar days as the scripture tells us? If so, did it all happen less than 7,000 years ago as creationist theologians, scholars, historians, and scientists say it did? Or, as modern science has been telling us for years now, did it all start with a big bang billions and billions of years ago and slowly evolve to its present state complete with modern man? If that's true, did God have anything to do with it? What is there to make us think He is even there? Evolutionist theory is, at its heart, atheistic. It "explains" why there is no reason to believe in God. Yet millions of people who would shudder at the idea that they are atheistic are nonetheless confused. Modern culture is so steeped in the assumption of a universe billions of years old that many cannot be completely convicted of its falsehood. They are stuck in the middle, trying to embrace both a belief in God and accommodation of an idea virtually antithetical to God's existence and the truth of the scripture. Sadly, this conundrum infects a sizeable segment of the modern church not wanting to appear naïve in the face of the "evidence." Time then for a hard look at the "evidence." Did dinosaurs and dragons really become extinct sixty-five million years ago or did they walk the earth as man's contemporaries until only several hundreds of years ago? Do some still exist today? History-both biblical and secular, plus many a modern witness-says the answer to the latter is yes. True science should be an honest, open-minded inquiry into the world as it is. That is what it claims to be. The scripture, of course, gives the answer to where we came from. "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." Does science refute that? Perhaps more to the point, does it not confirm it? Where do you choose to place your faith? In God and His holy scriptures or in man's scientific wisdom? Keep in mind that both is not a viable answer. Come on a journey of imagination. How would we expect the universe to look any different than exactly the way it does if the biblical account of Creation and history is totally true as opposed to the modern scientific explanations of how it came to be what we see today?

Book Three Views on Creation and Evolution

Download or read book Three Views on Creation and Evolution written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2010-06-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Christians, the issues raised by the different views on creation and evolution are challenging. Can a "young earth" be reconciled with a universe that appears to be billions of years old? Does scientific evidence point to a God who designed the universe and life in all its complexity? Three Views on Creation and Evolution deals with these and similar concerns as it looks at three dominant schools of Christian thought. Proponents of young earth creationism, old earth creationism, and theistic evolution each present their different views, tell why the controversy is important, and describe the interplay between their understandings of science and theology. Each view is critiqued by various scholars, and the entire discussion is summarized by Phillip E. Johnson and Richard H. Bube. The Counterpoints series provides a forum for comparison and critique of different views on issues important to Christians. Counterpoints books address two categories: Church Life and Bible and Theology. Complete your library with other books in the Counterpoints series.
