Book Collected Papers

Download or read book Collected Papers written by Robert J. Aumann and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert Aumann's career in game theory has spanned over research - from his doctoral dissertation in 1956 to papers as recent as January 1995. Threaded through all of Aumann's work (symbolized in his thesis on knots) is the study of relationships between different ideas, between different phenomena, and between ideas and phenomena. "When you look closely at one scientific idea", writes Aumann, "you find it hitched to all others. It is these hitches that I have tried to study". The papers are organized in several categories: general, knot theory, decision theory (utility and subjective probability), strategic games, coalitional games, and mathematical methods. Aumann has written an introduction to each of these groups that briefly describes the content and background of each paper, including the motivation and the research process, and relates it to other work in the collection and to work by others. There is also a citation index that allows readers to trace the considerable body of literature which cites Aumann's own work.

Book Testing Exogeneity

Download or read book Testing Exogeneity written by Neil R. Ericsson and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the nature of exogeneity, a central concept in standard econometrics texts, and shows how to test for it through numerous substantive empirical examples from around the world, including the UK, Argentina, Denmark, Finland, and Norway. Part I defines terms and provides the necessary background; Part II contains applications to models of expenditure, money demand, inflation, wages and prices, and exchange rates; and Part III extends various tests of constancy and forecast accuracy, which are central to testing super exogeneity. About the Series Advanced Texts in Econometrics is a distinguished and rapidly expanding series in which leading econometricians assess recent developments in such areas as stochastic probability, panel and time series data analysis, modeling, and cointegration. In both hardback and affordable paperback, each volume explains the nature and applicability of a topic in greater depth than possible in introductory textbooks or single journal articles. Each definitive work is formatted to be as accessible and convenient for those who are not familiar with the detailed primary literature.

Book Advanced Econometric Theory

Download or read book Advanced Econometric Theory written by John Chipman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When learning econometrics, what better way than to be taught by one of its masters. In this significant new volume, John Chipman, the eminence grise of econometrics, presents his classic lectures in econometric theory. Starting with the linear regression model, least squares, Gauss-Markov theory and the first principals of econometrics, this book guides the introductory student to an advanced stage of ability. The text covers multicollinearity and reduced-rank estimation, the treatment of linear restrictions and minimax estimation. Also included are chapters on the autocorrelation of residuals and simultaneous-equation estimation. By the end of the text, students will have a solid grounding in econometrics. Despite the frequent complexity of the subject matter, Chipman's clear explanations, concise prose and sharp analysis make this book stand out from others in the field. With mathematical rigor sharpened by a lifetime of econometric analysis, this significant volume is sure to become a seminal and indispensable text in this area.

Book Simplicity Inference and Modelling

Download or read book Simplicity Inference and Modelling written by Arnold Zellner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-02-07 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea that simplicity matters in science is as old as science itself, with the much cited example of Ockham's Razor, 'entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem': entities are not to be multiplied beyond necessity. A problem with Ockham's razor is that nearly everybody seems to accept it, but few are able to define its exact meaning and to make it operational in a non-arbitrary way. Using a multidisciplinary perspective including philosophers, mathematicians, econometricians and economists, this 2002 monograph examines simplicity by asking six questions: what is meant by simplicity? How is simplicity measured? Is there an optimum trade-off between simplicity and goodness-of-fit? What is the relation between simplicity and empirical modelling? What is the relation between simplicity and prediction? What is the connection between simplicity and convenience? The book concludes with reflections on simplicity by Nobel Laureates in Economics.

Book The Handbook of Experimental Economics

Download or read book The Handbook of Experimental Economics written by John H. Kagel and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, which comprises eight chapters, presents a comprehensive critical survey of the results and methods of laboratory experiments in economics. The first chapter provides an introduction to experimental economics as a whole, with the remaining chapters providing surveys by leading practitioners in areas of economics that have seen a concentration of experiments: public goods, coordination problems, bargaining, industrial organization, asset markets, auctions, and individual decision making. The work aims both to help specialists set an agenda for future research and to provide nonspecialists with a critical review of work completed to date. Its focus is on elucidating the role of experimental studies as a progressive research tool so that wherever possible, emphasis is on series of experiments that build on one another. The contributors to the volume--Colin Camerer, Charles A. Holt, John H. Kagel, John O. Ledyard, Jack Ochs, Alvin E. Roth, and Shyam Sunder--adopt a particular methodological point of view: the way to learn how to design and conduct experiments is to consider how good experiments grow organically out of the issues and hypotheses they are designed to investigate.

Book Bayesian Implementation

Download or read book Bayesian Implementation written by Thomas R. Palfrey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-08-26 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The implementation problem lies at the heart of a theory of institutions. Simply stated, the aim of implementation theory is to investigate in a rigorous way the relationships between outcomes in a society and how those outcomes arise. The first part of "Bayesian Implementation" presents a basic model of the Bayesian implementation problem and summarizes and explains recent developments in this branch of implementation theory. Substantive problems of interest such as public goods provision, auctions and bargaining are special cases of the model, and these are addressed in subsequent chapters.

Book Economic Development Of Taiwan Early Experiences And The Pacific Trade Triangle

Download or read book Economic Development Of Taiwan Early Experiences And The Pacific Trade Triangle written by Frank S T Hsiao and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-03-26 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taiwan's economic growth since the 1970s has roots in its pre-war development and post-war formation of the Pacific trade triangle. By highlighting the historical perspective of the Japanese linkages and the geographic vantage point of Taiwan-Japan-USA trade triangle, Economic Development of Taiwan features a collection of papers by Frank S T Hsiao and Mei-Chu Wang Hsiao. Published mostly between 1989 and 2002, their analyses on Taiwan's pre-war and post-war early economic history debunk the myth of the country's post-war rags to riches story and revalue the myth of 'wise' government policy. Timely and accessible, this unique volume shows how early Taiwanese experiences of economic development can be valuable paradigms for emerging economies of Asian, African and Latin American countries in this age of globalization.
