Download or read book Investigation of Design Considerations for Telemetry Tracking and Command TT C Antenna System on Naval Postgraduate School Orion Mini Satellite written by David L. Peters and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis investigates design requirements for the telemetry, tracking, and command (TT & C) antenna system on the proposed Naval Postgraduate School Orion mini-satellite. Initial design criteria were developed by examination of the satellite itself, including launch vehicles, orbital profiles and ground interfaces. After consideration of these design constraints, a review of commercially available TT & C antennas was conducted to determine compatibility with Orion, cumulating in recommendation of the conical log-spiral as the primary candidate for use on the spacecraft. The conical log-spiral is a low cost, space-qualified antenna capable of providing broadband omni-directional circularly polarized radiation from space, while fulfilling pattern coverage, space-ground link power margin, and transmitter-receiver isolation requirements for the Orion mini-satellite. Keywords: Conical log spiral; Conformal microstrip array; Telemetry tracking, Command; Mini Satellite.

Book Design Investigation for a Microstrip Phased Array Antenna for the ORION Satellite

Download or read book Design Investigation for a Microstrip Phased Array Antenna for the ORION Satellite written by Mark B. Smith and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Students at the Naval Postgraduate School are designing a general purpose mini-satellite that can be launched from a 'Get-Away-Special' cannister located in the cargo bay of the Space Shuttle and will be compatible with expendable launch vehicles as well. This thesis defines preliminary antenna systems and the design parameters for the telemetry system of the ORION mini-satellite. These antenna design parameters may be used for investigations of various proposed antenna systems and the design parameters also allow for trade-off studies with the mission capabilities and subsystems of the satellite. An investigation is made into the feasibility of using conformal microstrip patch array antennas for the telemetry, tracking and command (TT & C) systems. It is necessary to have two separate microstrip patch array antennas for the telemetry system: one uplink and one downlink antenna. The microstrip patch array antenna can operate as either an omnidirectional antenna or a directional antenna by changing the phase of the individual patch feeds. This feature gives the microstrip patch array antenna more flexibility for meeting the needs of potential users. Theses. (RH).

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 32 (thesis year 1987) a total of 12,483 theses titles from 22 Canadian and 176 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 32 reports theses submitted in 1987, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Two alternative antenna feed systems are proposed.

Book Study of Antenna Axis Configurations for Satellite Tracking and Continued Study of Transportable Antenna Systems Volume i

Download or read book Study of Antenna Axis Configurations for Satellite Tracking and Continued Study of Transportable Antenna Systems Volume i written by and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to select the best state-of-the-art axis configuration for transportable communications satellite tracking antennas, and to supply design information for this selection. The guide line for the study was Signal Corps tracking antenna Specification SCA 2013. The major requirements of this specification are: track communications satellites 500 to 22,400 miles high; thirty-foot parabolic reflector; transportable in military semitrailers, and C-124 and C-133 aircraft; operating frequency of 8.0 kMc; and pointing accuracy of 0.057 degree. Axis configurations utilized by existing tracking antennas were surveyed and their parameters tabled for comparison. Fortyone tracking antennas were surveyed, and are listed. A theoretical survey of possible axis configurations was conducted to determine the optimum geometrical configurations suitable for satellite tracking. Six of the most promising state-of-the-art configurations were selected, and an analytical study of these were conducted. Those studied were the A-E (narrow and wide yoke); the X-Y; and the differential and 3-axis mounts. A comparison of the analytical study is presented in tabular form, supplemented by brief summaries for each attribute compared. (Author).

Book Tracking Telemetry and Command Studies of Ground and Satellite Subsystems

Download or read book Tracking Telemetry and Command Studies of Ground and Satellite Subsystems written by E. M. Polzin and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic ground station antenna types used in the field today are listed. The advantages, disadvantages, and characteristics of various antennas are listed for the convenience of system engineers, but no attempt has been made either to describe thoroughly why each antenna exhibits certain characteristics or to single out any type as being the best, since this is a function of specific system requirements and tradeoffs. Many references are presented from some of the common technical journals, which can be used if one wishes to pursue further a particular aspect. The study discusses reflector-type antennas, lens-type antennas, array-type antennas, and includes a short discussion of monopulse vs conical scan techniques. (Author).

Download or read book The Birth of NASA written by Manfred "Dutch" von Ehrenfried and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of the work of the original NASA space pioneers; men and women who were suddenly organized in 1958 from the then National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA) into the Space Task Group. A relatively small group, they developed the initial mission concept plans and procedures for the U. S. space program. Then they boldly built hardware and facilities to accomplish those missions. The group existed only three years before they were transferred to the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas, in 1962, but their organization left a large mark on what would follow.Von Ehrenfried's personal experience with the STG at Langley uniquely positions him to describe the way the group was structured and how it reacted to the new demands of a post-Sputnik era. He artfully analyzes how the growing space program was managed and what techniques enabled it to develop so quickly from an operations perspective. The result is a fascinating window into history, amply backed up by first person documentation and interviews.
