Book Effect of Clod Size on Hydraulic Conductivity of Compacted Clay

Download or read book Effect of Clod Size on Hydraulic Conductivity of Compacted Clay written by SL. Houston and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study has been conducted to identify the causes for field-measured values of hydraulic conductivity of clay liners being typically two orders of magnitude greater than laboratory-measured values. It has been found through laboratory testing on large specimens that the size and gradation of clods and clumps of clay, prior to compaction, can significantly affect the measured hydraulic conductivity.

Book Geotechnical Practice for Waste Disposal

Download or read book Geotechnical Practice for Waste Disposal written by D.E. Daniel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earth scientists and geotechnical engineers are increasingly challenged to solve environmental problems related to waste disposal facilities and cleanup of contaminated sites. The effort has given rise to a new discipline of specialists in the field of environmental geotechnology. To be effective, environmental geotechnologists must not only be armed with the traditional knowledge of fields such as geology and civil engineering, but also be knowledgeable of principles of hydrogeology, chemistry, and biological processes. In addition, the environmental geotechnologist must be completely up to date on the often complex cadre of local and national regulations, must comprehend the often complex legal issues and sometimes mind-boggling financial impli cations of a project, and must be able to communicate effectively with a host of other technical specialists, regulatory officials, attorneys, local land owners, journalists, and others. The field of environmental geo technology will no doubt continue to offer unique challenges. The purpose of this book is to summarize the current state of practice in the field of environmental geotechnology. Part One covers broadly applicable principles such as hydrogeology, geochemistry, and con taminant transport in soil and rock. Part Two describes in detail the underlying principles for design and construction of new waste disposal facilities. Part Three covers techniques for site remediation. Finally, Part Four addresses the methodologies for monitoring. The topics of 'waste disposal' and 'site remediation' are extra ordinarily broad.

Book Laboratory Testing to Evaluate Changes in Hydraulic Conductivity of Compacted Clays Caused by Freeze Thaw

Download or read book Laboratory Testing to Evaluate Changes in Hydraulic Conductivity of Compacted Clays Caused by Freeze Thaw written by CH. Benson and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several laboratory studies have shown that the hydraulic conductivity of compacted clay may increase up to three orders of magnitude when subjected to freeze-thaw. In this paper, methods to freeze and thaw specimens of compacted clay are reviewed and compared. Methods to measure the hydraulic conductivity of the specimens are also reviewed. Only naturally formed clay soils are considered; soil-bentonite mixtures and other amended soils are not included.

Book Developments in Hydraulic Conductivity Research

Download or read book Developments in Hydraulic Conductivity Research written by Oagile Dikinya and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-02-28 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the state of the art of the investigation and the in-depth analysis of hydraulic conductivity from the theoretical to semi-empirical models perspective as well as policy development associated with management of land resources emanating from drainage-problem soils. A group of international experts contributed to the development of this book. It is envisaged that this thought provoking book will excite and appeal to academics, engineers, researchers and University students who seek to explore the breadth and in-depth knowledge about hydraulic conductivity. Investigation into hydraulic conductivity is important to the understanding of the movement of solutes and water in the terrestrial environment. Transport of these fluids has various implications on the ecology and quality of environment and subsequently sustenance of livelihoods of the increasing world population. In particular, water flow in the vadose zone is of fundamental importance to geoscientists, soil scientists, hydrogeologists and hydrologists and allied professionals.
