Book excerpt: Norway received its name from the nearby rural community of settlers from Norway in the area known as the Fox River Settlement. The village was the center of Norwegian immigration dating to 1834. The settlers had in large part relocated from the Kendall Settlement in New York State which had been founded earlier by pioneers who arrived from Norway during 1825 aboard the Restauration. Norwegian-American pioneer leader Cleng Peerson founded this second settlement in the Fox River Valley of Illinois.

Sivert and Marit were married 4 May 1857 in Selbu, Norway. Sivert died 16 Oct 1880. Marit died 31 May 1891. They had 7 children. Several of them immigrated to the U.S.A. The families live in South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and elsewhere.

Book excerpt: Anders Andersen (1837-1925) was a son of Anders Olsen and Alis Erichsdatter. He was born at Furnes, Hedmark co., Norway. He married 1. Feb. 1859 Anne Olsdatter (1819-1906). She was born at Hemsedal, Gol, Buskerud co., Norway, daughter of Ole Bjornsen and Barbro Olsdatter. Anders Andersen adopted the name Andrew J. Krogstad when he emigrated from Norway 1871. He settled in Hartland Twp., Pierce Co., Wisconsin near Esdaile. He had two children, Anders (known as Albert A. Krog- stad in America) (1861-1947) and Olina (1862-1893) Krogstad, who married Swan Peter Jackson in 1884. Descendants live in Wisconsin, Canada and elsewhere.
